  1. This will be my first and last post on the topic. Last night, you posted a bulleted list of some of your principles. One of them was having the right to do whatever you'd like in your personal space so long as it doesn't negatively impact others. An example was the discussion of German polka oompah music being played loudly at night, bothering neighbors. PAUSE: Now, please reflect on that for a moment. You state that when you call Caitlyn "Bruce," you're intention is only to insult her. And yet, you continue to insist on stating it publicly (i.e., loudly) in this forum in the presence of someone who has repeatedly stated that you're offending her (as have others who have been trying to help you grasp what you're doing). In other words, you're continuing to blast your German polka oompah music even though you only "intended" to disturb one of your neighbors (but not the whole neighborhood). You defend yourself by saying, "Well, she's not the intended target of my insult," as if it absolves you from using a known and widely recognized slur against an entire group of people. It is EXACTLY the same concept (as others have pointed out) as calling one Black person with whom you're pissed an N-word in front of an audience that includes other Black people. How would you react when being called out on that behavior? Would you quickly apologize and say something like, "Shit, I'm sorry I blurted out the N-word. It just slipped out." Or would you continue and dig in by saying, "I'm not racist! I just really wanted to hurt his feelings because that's the quickest and cheapest shortcut that I know of to emotionally damage a person that looks like him. Sure, I'm pissing off other Black people during the process, but fuck them for being so woke and sensitive and shit." If you're still cool with that argument and CONTINUE TO DIG IN, then you are truly and remarkably a tremendous asshole. Look, my advice is to insult someone over their behavior and not their appearance, like how they're a fucking hypocrite and traitor to others like them. Do it with precision and not a fucking shotgun blast where a bunch of others catch strays.

  3. I'm unfamiliar with that thread. Care to point me in the right direction? I will say that I probably don't have a whole lot to contribute (my daughter would), but it sounds like a fun read if it's got posts similarly geeky to that video.
  4. FYI - Yashar Ali is also on Blue Sky, which also embeds on Surly. Carry on.
  5. Good point. I do believe he proposed the death penalty for all drug dealers fairly recently.
  6. FYI - That same account is also on Bsky.
  7. Let's go, Danny! *clap*clap*clap* Let's go, Danny! *clap*clap*clap* Let's go, Danny!
  8. It's crossed my mind to quote every Twitter post I come across with just a gif of Muskolini giving the old "Sieg Drumpf" without any other commentary. Because I'm not above being really petty and annoying like that.
  9. Does anyone know if @realgreggym has been back to back his statement that TrumpCo are "adults"? Because that's a bold and vewy, vewy bwave statement. I assume that he, himself, is an adult who can speak to its merits in a mature manner to demonstrate his mastery of the topic. Oh, he didn't come back? Did he take his widdle balls and run home to the basketball board? Because that would be really immature and childish behavior. Has he been crying over there about how all the CR meanies are treating him badly?
  10. Our already struggling VA system is going to be in a world of hurt.
  11. Tell them you're sticking with the curricula. Until it's printed as such in all your textbooks and all the maps have changed in your classroom, it's the Gulf of Mexico. Moreover, I think you're also safe until the US Geological Society complies and changes all their maps.
  12. It was the reader. The DPS trooper said as much and that they were all recently being equipped with them. The way he pretty much described it was that the reader scans automatically when it's turned on and will alert him if it comes across an expired tag. This was several months ago, so I'll just assume they're all outfitted with one by now. He also went on to say that some local jurisdictions (but not all) are starting to get them, too. Like @Longhorn_Fan68 points out, it gives them probable cause to pull you over.
  13. I've got two cars. One is an around-town beater (2005 Toyota) with plenty of bruises and scratches, and it's still got 2016 registration tags on it. My shiny "good car" on the other hand has 2019 tags. Guess which one I was driving while moving across the state when I got pulled over for expired tags. And, now, guess who was astonished to only receive a warning for driving around with those 2016 tags. The cop actually laughed because he'd never seen overdue tags that old before. Me. 🙋‍♂️ Yeah, this white guy. (By the way, I did learn from him all DPS now have license plate readers that can tell them if your tags are out of date, even if they're just cruising along behind you.)
  14. I don't know if you came up with that or not, but I'm stealing this genius gem.
  15. They do go on to subtly note, in a very French way, the irony of the debate going on in America is taking place on a platform owned by the billionaire fascist.
  16. No figure is given for 2024, but the article says we gave them $17B in economic aid in 2023. I don't know how much we were scheduled to give them, but I do know they're not getting any more for now. The article I posted is Ukraine-focused and isn't really a discussion of any sort. Simply a news announcement and a guess by the author at its impact on Ukraine. In my estimation, it's relevant to the thread topic.

  18. Fuck that. She'd join up with them. I want to see what Varys's little birds might do.
  19. Looks like US economic aid for Ukraine might be paused for the next 90 days.
  20. That was my point. I thought you were implying they weren't. We got our wires crossed.
  21. Short intro to that "Der Spiegel" article also puts it bluntly: "Kira Ayyadi from the Amadeu Antonio Foundation has been observing the right-wing scene for years. When she saw Elon Musk's gesture at Donald Trump's inauguration, she was shocked. She doesn't believe it was an oversight." Just as "Die Zeit" states it matter of factly: "A Hitler salute is a Hitler salute is a Hitler salute." These two mainstream GERMAN publications are at least making it plain to their readers, unlike the American pussy press.
  22. No spoilers, no theories. This is just the technicalities of shooting that first scene where Mark S. is panicked running through the hallways to find the Wellness Center (12 minutes in length). Fun to watch if you're into that kind of thing.
  23. Go post that in the DT Russian invasion of Ukraine thread.
  24. How often would you say it's gotten down to -35F up where you live?
