  1. The ACL Blue Note 17 pick is phenomenal.
  2. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 oz. pour of GTS 2020 ($46) tonight alongside my Oscar style ribeye from Fleming’s tonight. The only other GTS I’ve had was a 2019 and the 2020 absolutely shitstomps it.
  3. Landed an ECBP store pick from Skip’s in New Braunfels. It was a preorder, but the barrel should come in next month, hopefully. ECBP is definitely one of the most undervalued bottles on the market and I can’t wait to compare this pick to the regular A/B/C batches.
  4. Kosher Rye Recipe is the best one. Do you have that one?
  5. You could have a “tainted” bottle. I believe if you call the distillery and read off some of the info that’s on the laser etching they might confirm if it’s a bad batch or not. I’ve never had to do it, but I’ve heard second-hand that’s a thing.
  6. I thought it appropriate to celebrate our pending move by pouring some Sam Houston 14 and Sam Houston 15. Both are very fine pours, but pale in comparison to aggy tears.
  7. The only thing that contributed to Shaka’s downfall was his atrocious coaching. He had at least as much, if not more talent than Baylor and Tech. Outside of this year’s conference championship (which I consider an outlier and a fluke due to all the Covid interruptions) his legacy is one of extreme futility and underachievement. I never though it was possible to do less with more than Barnes did, but Shaka set a new low bar for that standard.
  8. Brisket bean and cheese breakfast taco is the way to go, but the carne guisada is good.
  9. It was supposed to go to $550 last year, but postponed it b/c Covid. It’ll be bumped to $550 this year
  10. This stuff is apparently really good. The Bourbon Junkies just blinded the Southern Rye and guessed it was a $60-$80 bottle. I’m definitely going to pick up at least the rye, but apparently the entire line is a good value.
  11. Not sure of spots to drink at, but if you can find some Mythology, grab it up. I hear their Hell Bear variety (a blend of rye and bourbon) is really good.
  12. Thanks for the note on this. I have the 99 proof variety from the same store (they did two picks) and was interested how it is. I have a Blue Note 9 pick from Skip’s and it’s great, so I’m happy to hear the 17 is good too. Blue Note seems to be laying their Dickel on the table with these releases.
  13. It’ll be interesting how they’ll introduce Tony’s history of panic attacks in this movie. They’ll have to show his first one that caused him to miss the heist with Tony B., won’t they?
  14. How many fucking fastballs down the pipe are we gonna let go by tonight?
  15. Fair. I’ve always preferred the breaded style, so Wayne’s is more my jam. Glad you tried them out!
  16. Stagg Jr. hands down for me. I only use W12 to blend Poor Man’s Pappy. With PMP I find the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. W12 and OWA are fine in my eyes, but I’m never disappointed if I miss a drop of those. If I see one, sure I’ll pick it up, but I’m not going out of my way to grab either one.
  17. There’s no doubt that the flippers are giving kickbacks to store employees/managers for tips on when the big drops are coming. I’ve never believed the whole “we don’t know what’s coming until it shows up on the truck” bullshit that you hear store employees tell you. It’s the same guys in the Facebook groups that post new inventory once the drops happen. You can’t tell me that they just always have good luck and get in on every big drop.
  18. Next time you’re in San Antonio, stop by Wayne’s Wings. You’ll thank me later.
  19. Melendez has been fucking brutal the last two months. Need to drop him out of the 4 hole.
  20. Heading into Houston this weekend for Father’s Day. Any decent stores on the northwest side of town? I plan on stopping at the Total Wine in Copperfield, but wasn’t sure if anything else was worth popping into in that area.
  21. The far right bottle is that Sweeten’s Cove bullshit that Peyton is shilling. From what I’ve heard it’s a $200+ drain pour. The one to the left of that is Michter’s 10. Can’t tell what the other two are.
  22. Cigar Blend is fantastic and almost impossible to find on the shelf. If you do see it you won’t pay retail. The only bottle I have came from a trade I made over the summer (for Weller Single Barrel, but I was on the 2 side of a 2-for-1). They come out with a few batches per year. Nancy Fraley is the blender and she does an amazing job with it. She also does Still Austin if I’m not mistaken.
  23. I’d have to imagine this won’t be available in TX as you can’t buy liquor at grocery stores?
