  1. I drove the Chevy Silverado LT EV on Saturday and was extremely impressed. I worry about it being a new model - and that it is a little more pricey than I would like to spend on an unproven EV. I have considered a Tesla Model 3 because of its relatively low entry price point. However, the depreciation seems to be pretty steep on the Teslas these days. Thoughts I am having (1) just buy new or (2) buy used. #1 - I suffer depreciation, but the good/bad/ugly of the car is all on me. #2 - 2 years old and around $20k lower than new What do the Tesla owners and Tesla haters have to say? Ideally, I want a reasonably priced EV with range of 300 miles.
  2. Totally understand. I was fascinated and intrigued by it. And - sorry if it seemed like I was thread-crapping on your decision. I'm presently driving a 10-yr-old Toyota minivan because (1) it works (2) it is paid for and (3) I know everything about it. I am definitely not coming from a position of expertise I hope you love it. And agree w/ @GottaB about value retention.
  3. Congrats @C-Man I drove a 2025 Land Cruiser on Saturday and was left a little underwhelmed. It felt a little underpowered for its weight, but it could have just been my bias against the notion of a 2.4L 4-cylinder Turbo. It also had considerably more road noise than I would have expected for a $60k+ car.
  4. totally agree - just wanted to whine a bit and reflect on the "good old days". That said, I'd pay a premium for an imperial pint
  5. That's essentially what IBM did for some of its fabs to GF a while back. In 2015, IBM gave GF all of its fabs and $1.5B and agreed to purchase material from GF for 10 years.
  6. NY Times: Intel chairman seeks to give Intel Foundry control to TSMC No comment from either of Intel or TSMC.
  7. PH Burnet's Nitro stout is quite good right now. It's basically their traditional stout w/ Nitro as the propellant My son and I favor Green Battles, but it seems that it is now more of a seasonal for them. I like PH and appreciate their business, but will complain that the pints used to be around 20 oz at $6 and now feel more like 15oz for $7. And the HH prices of old were $4 for that same ~20 oz "pint".
  8. Used to be one of the better IPAs in Florida. Before Oskar Blues left Austin, they were the Central US brewer for Jai Alai, IIRC. It was great to get on tap and you could get it as part of their $6 6-packs on Sunday.
  9. Same. Their consistency waned a bit around 2 years ago, but they seem to have figured it out again
  10. OPI for a pick. Wow. Zero called during the regular season, I'm guessing
  11. "Rupert Murdoch is here. Good to see him." Uh - don't give a shit, other than seeing him separated from $30mm per year for the commenting atrocity that is Tom Brady.
  12. More Anne Hathaway.
  13. If you are referring to the SB LIX thread, that was me. And it was 100% tongue-in-cheek.
  14. Mahomes the MVP of the first half?
  15. Nice pick 6! Great series from KC: Sacked, Sacked, throw pick 6.
  16. Good? Not sure. Weird as hell? Yes. Here's the 1:20 version for those who want to see it again.
  17. Seal and sloths commercials so far are the best.
  18. Brady needs to talk about 80%-90% less. Or I can mute it, I guess.
  19. Having coaching continuity helps, too. Since 1980, Purdue has had 2 basketball coaches - Gene Keady and Matt Painter. And only 4 since 1950. Right now, there are 7 roster folks with over 400 mins played this year. Braden Smith: Westfield, IN (Indy suburb); mom and dad are basketball coaches Fletcher Loyer: Fort Wayne, IN; Dad is a scout for the clippers; mother played volleyball in Lafayette and was an assistant coach at Purdue; Grandfather went to Purdue Trey Kaufman-Renn: Sellersburg, IN (Louisville suburb); offers from IU, UNC, Louisville Camden Heide: Minn; Utah private school. Dad went to HS in Lafayette and graduated from Purdue. Myles Colvin: Indy; Dad is Roosevelt Colvin, who played football for 4 years at Purdue and 10 years in NFL. Sister plays volleyball at Purdue Caleb Furst: Fort Wayne, IN; CJ Cox: Lexington, Mass; only had offers from UMass and Ivy Leagues; Painter liked what he saw in AAU games For what it is worth.... The NBA has 2 former Purdue players right now: Zach Edey and Jaden Ivey. Painter does not recruit many of the 1-and-done types. It could be (1) he's not that interested and (2) they're not that interested in his style. Purdue's worst years under Painter followed a local maximum of success - and a significant number of players graduating. This year has been an exception to prior years, but he's done a much better job at building deeper teams in the past few years.
  20. A couple more silly things about the Aggie class rings... https://www.aggienetwork.com/traditionsthroughtime/strengthaggiering/ purchase rate of class rings is 94% of eligible students (wow!) around 15k students per year largest college ring account (no kidding?) Aggie ring account is 3x the #2 account at Balfour Aggie: 15k rings Clemson: 4500 Texas: 2500 So far as traditions go, this one is low on the weirdness scale for aTm. I do suspect there is a shitload of peer pressure, though.
  21. I wish I could remember the year (1982?), but it was near the peak of his popularity in the early 1980s. My parents bought tickets with friends to see Kenny Rogers at the FEC. They came home and said, "he played for 56 minutes." I seem to recall some outrage in the paper the following day. The quality may have been OK, but the quantity was lacking.
  22. That entire Journey "era" was odd. Perry became more of a creative focal point (esp. after success of his solo record Street Talk) and the "band megalomaniac" shifted (only temporarily) from Schon to Perry. Perry ran off drummer Smith and bassist Valory, largely because the expressed disagreement with some of the sound of the new record. They were replaced by studio musicians from Perry's solo record (Bob Glaub and Larrie Londin), with the majority of the bass work moving to Jackson, who toured with them, as you note. I was at that show, too. I felt Glass Tiger was an odd opener, but so be it. I agree they were going through the motions and the tension was high. I recall the show being high quality. I totally forgot about the 2 drum solos. I wonder if that was from (1) wanting a break on stage or (2) trying to show the fans that the tour drummer was as capable as Smith. When I walked out of the show, I reflected that the Frontiers show in 1983 was considerably better. Of course they were in a better place. The opener was Bryan Adams, supporting Cuts Like a Knife, and he was great. I would not call it one of the worst shows I have ever attended, though. I'll need to think about that
  23. Not sure why I subjected myself to this, but a quick google search of "Aggie ring gold" yielded as the top choice... https://www.aggienetwork.com/ring/configure/ A key option - on the exact page - was between 10k and 14k gold. There was a clear $600 difference - and the 10k option is around $2k. Also, anyone who attended a MS or HS science class would know that "pure product" is not what you want for any piece of jewelry - pure 24k is too damned soft. Anyway, I am not sure why I spent 5 mins of my life to essentially say, "ignorant Aggy says ignorant things on the interwebs," but here we are. I do not understand the allure of class rings, but I am not a jewelry person, either. I got a HS class ring - the cheapest one available - and have no idea where it is today.
  24. Must have been in a small HS class if #6 got a rejection (or non-resident). As @South Austin says, there are myriad stories like that and some head scratchers, too.
  25. Late to the show here, but the answer is just like @F250 said. It depends on the school and the student. Son #1 went to UT CS and excelled; he worked his ass off and loved it. Son #2 went to Purdue for CS. He's taking a break from school and it is 100% on him. Schools are pretty good at telling you where everyone is getting jobs, which can help with the decision making. Another option is the SW Engineering track in an ECE department. You will get less pure computer science (proofs, maths, etc.) and far more exposure to leading edge tools and flows. @CleverNickname - feel free to throw out some other school names - or we can start another thread, if @immamac prefers that.
