Texas Offseason 2025 - Archmania Is Upon Us
BurntOrange&White replied to Vertigo's topic in Football
CJ Vogel QB Arch Manning and RB Tre Wisner Spoke With Media Thursday AM Texas QB Arch Manning and RB Quintrevion Wisner were the first Longhorns of the 2025 Spring Practice season to speak with members of the local media on Thursday AM after practice No. 8. A few main themes are forming thus far through spring ball. Competition in practice, wide receiver room standing out and which of the newcomers are really beginning to stand out. Some highlights from this morning. *** Competitiveness in Practice Steve Sarkisian mentioned this on Monday, and it really struck a chord with me. There is a different level of competitiveness in the spring of 2025 and it is headlined by Arch Manning. It has been a few years since the practices at Denius were filled with jawwing and chirping from one side of the ball to the other, but that is where things stand currently. Arch Manning: "I think that is just the competition on this team. Obviously, Colin (Simmons) and Ant (Hill Jr.) are good players. It is kind of fun in practice to talk a little crap to them, same with (Michael) Taaffe. It makes practice more fun." Tre Wisner: "Something I have seen from our first live practice, there was a lot of yapping back and forth from the defense and offense. Those are the types of things you need at practice because it shows the competitiveness between players and we love that." *** Wide Receiver Room Texas is young, but talented at the WR room. I don't need to rundown the room again, but there have been plenty of opportunities for new faces to earn their keep this spring including Arch Manning: "Good. I live with Parker (Livingstone). And for a bunch of those guys, when you are a backup, you spend a lot of time together in practice getting those reps. It is cool now that we are all running with the ones. Tre Wisner: "(Parker Livingstone) is a baller! White Chocolate!" **** Newcomers Standing Out 22 early enrollees plus some new faces from the portal litter the practice fields currently in Austin. A look at which guys are standing out to the two backfield players for the Horns. Arch Manning: "It has been good getting these young guys up to speed. I have been really impressed with Parker and Daylan McCutcheon has been really good and is coming along well. He is getting the hang of things." Tre Wisner: "I am definitely going to have to say β from an offensive standpoint, Nick (Brooks) the O-Lineman. Kaliq Lockett looks good at receiver and James Simon, definitely. (Simon) is just very smooth. I like the way he uses his eyes and his feet are nice. He know how to move well in tight spaces and that's something you have to have to play running back at The University of Texas." *** OL Room The faces on the offensive line are familiar, but new to the starting rotation for the most part in 2025. Aside from DJ Campbell, the OL group is still fresh when it comes to play with one another. Arch Manning: Spoke very highly of Trevor Goosby as his blindside protector, also called him a heck of an athlete and basketball player Tre Wisner: "Definitely I would say Neto (Umeozulu) and (Brandon) Baker. For those two to not get as many snaps last year as some of the other guys they have definitely come into the spring with a chip on their shoulder. They have definitely showed the most improvement."- 2049 replies

The Worst Trade in NBA History: Luka traded for AD

Disappearing for most of 2 out of 3 games isn't playing great. now the word "terrible" is probably a stretch but he was bad in stretches of those two games. Either way those scouts/draft honks aren't entirely wrong on their analysis.
-
Quinn nearly costing us the Arizona St game isn't being contrarian, that is objectively a fact. We all watched the games, we know he disappeared vs Arizona St, we know he didn't do much vs Ohio St outside of 2 drives. Those are objectively true. He didn't play some herculean games in the playoffs. I wouldn't say he played bad but he didn't play great either which is the story of his career inconsistency and disappearing at times which is why he's projected mid rounds and not near the top of the draft.
-
Clemson he played a good game and his interception was due to the ball going through receivers hands but Klub did outplay him. Arizona State he almost cost us the game with the dumbest fucking duck throw of all time, but he made up for it in OT. He started off hot in the 1st quarter then basically didn't do much until a drive in second half then disappeared again until OT. I'd argue that he passed better than Leavitt but overall did not play as well considering Leavitt's ability to extend plays and move chains. Ohio St drives look like this: 7 plays 39 yards, punt 6 plays 27 yards, punt 4 plays -11 yards(10 yard sack and fumbled but we recovered), punt 5 plays 15 yards, punt 5 plays 16 yards, punt 7 plays 59 yards, TD(18 yard pass to Blue) 2 plays 23 yards, halftime 4 plays 13 yards, punt 12 plays 67 yards, TD(26 yard pass to Blue) 3 plays 5 yards, punt 10 plays 58 yards, Fumble returned for touchdown 3 plays 6 yards, interception.

Maybe it was just a partial tear and it was clean? Maybe not a complete rupture? It is very remarkable! Also achilles surgeries have come so far with the new techniques. -

So Sampson outperformed him by making the final four. Got it! Good analysis. Also making the final four at Oklahoma vs Arizona....key difference. -

What is that confuses you about why they would stay in college vs going pro? It's self explanatory yet here you are. -

CJ Vogel Texas is seven practices into spring football, meaning they are essentially at halftime. We have learned a lot of what's going on in spring ball, but there remains plenty of unknowns for the second half of spring football. However, based off of what we know, I wanted to give a projected 2-deep at each position for the midway point. *** Offense Quarterback Rs. Sophomore Arch Manning Rs. Freshman Trey Owens Pretty cut and clean at the quarterback position for Steve Sarkisian and AJ Milwee. Texas has its starter for the fall. Of course, early enrollee KJ Lacey is running third. Running Back Junior Tre Wisner Sophomore Jerrick Gibson β OR β Rs. Freshman Christian Clark With CJ Baxter still recovering from his knee injury from fall camp, the Longhorns are rolling with Tre Wisner once again as their lead back. Sarkisian confirmed it at the media availability on Tuesday as well, Wisner is the guy. Gibson has the edge over Clark as he gets back to 100% as well. Gibson has filtered in with the first unit often, and Clark has received a solid amount of reps with the 2's. Early enrollees James Simon and Rickey Stewart are growing into their own. Wide Receiver X β Rs. Freshman Parker Livingstone Z β Freshman Jaime Ffrench H β Freshman Daylan McCutcheon and X β Freshman Michael Terry III Z β Freshman Kaliq Lockett H β Freshman Aaron Butler Specifics on the X, Z, H are subject to change, but this is where the reps have been split mostly at practice thus far. Kaliq Lockett was also mentioned by Steve Sarkisian as someone who is running with the first team often. I have not heard that as much for Aaron Butler, however he will get his looks as the spring continues. Tight End Rs. Sophomore Spencer Shannon Freshman Emaree Winston Texas is banged up. No Jordan Washington for the time being, otherwise he would be your No. 1 option here. Fortunately, this provides great looks for Spencer Shannon for the first time in his career with the first team. Nick Townsend arrives in the summer and will make noise as well. Offensive Line LT1 β Rs. Sophomore Trevor Goosby LT2 β Freshman Nick Brooks LG1 β Junior Neto Umeozulu LG2 βRs. Freshman Nate Kibble β OR β Rs. Sophomore Jaydon Chatman C1 β Senior Cole Hutson C2 β Rs. Freshman Daniel Cruz RG1 β Senior DJ Campbell RG2 β Rs. Freshman Nate Kibble RT1 β Sophomore Brandon Baker RT2 β Rs. Sophomore Andre Cojoe β OR β Freshman Nick Brooks For the time being, that's where we stand on the offensive line. Plenty of battles on the offensive line as well. Nick Brooks is getting looks at both sides of the ball, a great sign early. Daniel Cruz has been someone we have heard plenty about making noise and Nate Kibble had a tremendous redshirt year and is pushing at both guard spots. **** Defense EDGE Sophomore Colin Simmons Rs. Freshman Zina Umeozulu Senior Ethan Burke β OR β Senior Trey Moore Freshman Lance Jackson β OR β Freshman Justus Terry Obviously with Trey Moore getting reps at linebacker, it changes a bit of what Texas is doing off the edge. No Colton Vasek means Zina Umeozulu also gets some notable key reps in the first and second units as well. But both new early enrollees are getting some key snaps as well against Nick Brooks and Andre Cojoe, both will payoff in the long run. Interior DL Senior Cole Brevard & Sophomore Alex January Senior Travis Shaw & Senior Hero Kanu I wanted to show the interior defensive line in a duo look. Expect a lot of snaps for Alex January and Cole Brevard in 2025, they are your No. 1 guys on the interior with Brevard manning the nose. Travis Shaw is limited with a lingering knee, but will be a key piece next fall over the nose as well. Will be interesting to see who Texas adds out of the portal, as well as what Myron Charles and Josiah Sharma bring to the table. Linebacker MIKE1 β Junior Anthony Hill Jr. MIKE2 β TyAnthony Smith WILL1 β Junior Liona Lefau β OR β Senior Trey Moore WILL2 β Senior Brad Spence Again, the movement of Trey Moore makes things really interesting for the Horns at the second level. What kind of pass rush and identification issues can the Horns provide with their weapons at the linebacking position. TyAnthony Smith, Brad Spence each bring individual skillsets as well, but they complement each other well. STAR Rs. Freshman Wardell Mack β OR β Junior Jelani McDonald Sophomore Jordon Johnson-Rubell β OR β Sophomore Ryan Niblett Lots of bodies getting cross-trained here at the STAR position. Wardell Mack had been getting the first-team looks this spring with Jelani McDonald back at safety due to some injury issues back deep. Will be really intersting to see if Ryan Niblett brings anything to this room. Cornerback Junior Malik Muhammad Junior Warren Roberson β OR β Freshman Kade Phillips Senior Jaylon Guilbeau Sophomore Kobe Black β OR β Rs. Freshman Santana Wilson Plenty of bodies right now in the cornerback room as well, so much so, that Steve Sarkisian called it the "best-looking" room on the 40 Acres currently. Given the names above, it is hard to disagree. The length and speed of the guys listed on the two deep are tremendous. Texas might not be super experienced here, but the skillset is great and with Guilbeau moving outwide, necessary experience as well. Safety Senior Michael Taaffe β AND β Junior Jelani McDonald Sophomore Jordan Johnson-Rubell β AND β Sophomore Xavier Filsaime The return of Derek Williams Jr. and eventual debut of Jonah Williams will make this room great. Right now, it is really good. Michael Taaffe and Jelani McDonald bring plenty of experience and the most underrated part of the Texas defense will be the vocal leadership and communication of Taaffe at the safety spot. JJR has been receiving some praise and there is the athleticism to note of Xavier Filsaime that could bring some juice. Of course, early enrollee Zelus Hicks is someone to monitor as well. -

The Samford coach is laughable hire by Aggie and one they make. I'd be okay with the coach from SF 3 years ago because the hire at age 36 would show we identified some traits we liked in him and decided to go young vs a guy with 20 years and cashed out on his potential. -

Todd Golden would NEVER be hired at Texas. Do you really think Texas would hire a coach who had only coached at San Francisco?
