  11. Well, there goes the no hitter.
  12. Interesting...wasn't aware of this. I thought the modern gun control movement started after Sirhan Sirhan put a revolver to the back of Bobby Kennedy's head and pulled the trigger. Very strange when reading about this incident to learn that California actually allowed open carry during my life time.
  13. Got the win. 3-1 good guys
  14. So what does that do for the ol' ERA?
  15. REVERSE JINX BABY!!!! Two run single.
  16. Should I feel bad that I'm hoping this pitcher WPs in the lead run because I have no faith our batters are going to get it done?
  17. Walk on four pitches...runners on first and third, one out. Hodo up to bat.
  18. Hmmm...22.50 ERA for the new pitcher. Is that good?
  19. I understand that we should be striving for championships and all, but historically speaking, that just doesn't happen with Texas Men's Basketball. In the last 50 years, we have been to 1 Final Four, 3 Elite Eights, and 8 Sweet Sixteens. Tom Penders and Rick Barnes, the most successful coaches in school history, combined for a grand total of 5 Conference Championships in 27 years. The norm for Texas basketball is a regular season win total in the mid-20s, a second or third place finish in conference and a first or second round exit from the NCAA tournament. Based on our history, I just don't think that expecting Shaka to be fired if he doesn't win conference championships and go three or four games deep into the NCAA tournament on a regular basis is realistic. There just isn't that kind of tradition here for basketball. Perhaps it's a function of my age, but I just have more tempered expectations for the basketball team than I do for the other sports.
  20. Would it though? In that unlikely scenario, or an even more unlikely scenario that we win it all ( and no, I'm not suggesting that that is a possibility, just using exaggeration to illustrate a point), it seems that some would probably choose to be upset over the inevitable contract extension that Shaka would receive, rather that being happy that the team is winning. All things considered, it is the University of Texas Longhorns, not the Shaka Smart Longhorns or the Tom Herman Longhorns, and I'm happy when the Longhorns win. I do wish they would do more of it, and more consistently and convincingly, however.
  21. Take your drink to end of the bar, buddy Come on, now don't be a fool I'd rather have the hot seat in SIng-Sing prison Than to sit down by her on that stool
  22. I assume you're too young to remember the implosion of the 1981-82 team. Started off something like 14-0, rose to a top 5 ranking, and were not just beating, but destroying everyone they played, and that included Arkansas and a Houston team featuring Hakeem Olajuwan and Clyde Drexler that made it to the final four at the beginning of the Phi Slamma Jamma years. Then we play Baylor, and our starting forward, Mike Wacker, who was an absolute stud, destroys his knee ending his season, and there was nobody else to pick up the slack. Lasalle Thompson could do only so much on his own. Team finished something like 15-15, Abe Lemons was fired, and the Bob Weltlich era began. Dark days for UT BBall.
  23. Anybody else here remember the 1980 SMU game? Texas was 5-0 going into that game, ranked number 2 in the nation having just dispatched Oklahoma. The 1980 season got off to a great start, with a nationally televised Monday night game against Arkansas, which the 'Horns dominated. At this point, SMU was 3-2, the much vaunted "Pony Express" hadn't found it's giddy up yet, and they hadn't beaten Texas since about 1967, and on top of all that, Texas just didn't lose home games. We were on our way to a national championship run...everyone in the stadium knew it. Then the game was played. Fucking Craig James, that hookercidal maniac (allegedly), couldn't be stopped, Texas' offense couldn't do anything, and we ended up not scoring a TD in our own stadium in forever. Final score was 20-6, but the game really wasn't that close. The rest of the season totally collapsed, and we finished 7-5, with a loss to Lawrence Taylor's Tarheel team in the Bluebonnet bowl. That was the first time I learned to never get too emotionally invested in a game, or season...everything can change, instantly and with little/no warning. To the OP...thanks for digging at the scab...asshole.
