I'm not going to pretend that I understand much about the stock market. But, it's fairly obvious to even the least sophisticated investor that this market downturn is due to one man. Whether or not his allies or sycophants want to admit it or not is immaterial. The markets, including things like ag are seeing unusual activity. I think that's a safe way to describe it in apolitical terms. I read along and generally lurk because I don't have a lot to contribute and I would rather try to learn something than holler about the state of my accounts.
I can go holler in CR and argue about whatever I think is happening and what might be next, but that's not why I read this thread. But, in this continuing series of events it's unavoidable that political points will arise because that's what is driving it. The Chinese slapping a 34% tariff, the Canadians pulling whiskey off the shelves, and the markets responding to these things can be laid at the feet of a single individual. The last time we saw a Fear and Greed index number of 4 was right after the pandemic began to really sink into the brains of people on about 3/16/20. It was actually a 2 but a fucking 4 is pretty close. The market has been in Extreme Fear territory for a while. It bobbed up to plain old fear of 20 something a few days ago but it's been consistently in the extreme for most of the last month or so and the selloff reflects that.
I don't see it changing any time soon. I probably should go snap up some Ford at sub ten dollars but I just can't. Ethereum at sub 2k? I would have been getting some of that too. Not now. It can sit in the bank and draw pennies for all I care right now.
If I want to gloat about idiots losing their shit buying OAN or DJT I know where to go drink from that fountain of tears.
But, crying CR when it's been an entirely political decision to make the market behave this way is avoiding the topic.
I'll hang up and listen.
