  1. My in-laws watch Fox News all day and listen to Fox News radio in the car.  Wife brought our child over there the other day and noticed a brand new NRA camo duffel bag in the utility room.  Yep, apparently they send you the bag when you sign up to become an NRA member.  They aren't gun owners.

Right.  And generally the 5-8 seeds in the Easter Conference have been shitty for the last 20 years or so, especially compared to the Western Conference.

    Some amazing stats this decade:

2010- All 8 WC playoff teams won at least 50 games

2011: WC 8 seed had 46 wins, EC 5 seed had 44 wins

2012: 8 seed in West had a 46-36 record. 8 seed in East was 37-45

2013 - 5 seed Memphis would have been 2 seed in East

2014 playoffs - 7 teams in the WC with 50+ wins. The 8 seed was Dallas with a 49-33 record, which would have been good enough to be the # 3 seed in the East

2015 playoffs - 7 teams in the WC with 50+ wins. The 6 seed was SA with 55 wins, which would have been the #2 seed in the EC.

2017 playoffs - the 5 seed Utah Jazz had the same record as Lebron's 2 seed Cavs

  3. Right.  And generally the 5-8 seeds in the Easter Conference have been shitty for the last 20 years or so, especially compared to the Western Conference.

When is the last time Lebron trailed in a 1st round series?

Quick google search: He's played in 13 first round playoff series.  7 opponents have had a winning regular season record.

    Wizards 42-40

    Wizards 43-39

    Knicks 36-30 (shortened regular season)

    Charlotte 43-39

    Detroit 44-38

    Pacers 42-40

    THIS YEAR: Pacers 48-34

LeBron might be the GOAT. But playing in the EC has been extremely beneficial.  This is the first time he's played a good opponent in the 1st round.

I don’t know.  Is the consensus that is Trump?  Just sounded generic New Yorker to me.

Verbal diarrhea, uses only 1 word over a 3rd grade reading level (and says it 4 times), and ends a sentence with "okay?". Yeah, that's Donald. Unless that's how a typical Vice President of Finance speaks.

The cops and manager were totally in the wrong and there was clearly racist undertones in the Starbucks incident. Let me know if that's not clear enough for you Professor.

Do you think this was an isolated incident since you don't believe there is widespread institutional discrimination against black people?

Pretty sure I admitted it.  Whites have the advantage in most situations, though there are some where being black is a privilege.  Why can't you admit that?

95% of the time whites have an advantage. 5% of the time, being black is a privilege. But the above question is treated like an equivalent argument. It's ridiculous.

I believe I said blacks have some privileges.  Like in admissions to higher education.  And employment in certain industries, big law is one of them.  I also acknowledged they have disadvantages in other industries.  Half of my friends are in commercial real estate in Houston.  They all do well.  Not a single one of them lives in a house less than a million bucks.  They all are members of ROCC or HCC.  They all went to UT and were in fraternities.  It is the whitest, fratiest industry around.  Law is not really like that.

Being white is an advantage in the USA in most circumstances.  But not all.  That was my point.  Along with pointing out that being born in the USA without any kind of disability already puts you in a very, very good situation compared to most of the rest of the world.  Regardless of your color.  Make good choices and you will not ever be really poor in the USA.  Cannot say the same if you were born in many other countries, where you are very likely fucked no matter what choices you make.

Johnny, there's a very good chance that we have met at some point based on your first paragraph.  At worst, we have a ton of friends in common and I'm sure we'd get along great in real life.

Regarding your second paragraph: If I said "Being black is a disadvantage in the USA in most circumstances. But not all.".  Would you agree?

  9. I don't think the way to go about this is to disparage Johnny Sack for his relative "privileged" upbringing in the work force.  He could have fucked it up, but he didn't.

That said, how many African-Americans have a  grandfather from the depression era without a college degree that started a business that made them millionaires?  Can we at least acknowledge that racial discrimination pretty much wouldn't allow that to happen back then?  Can we recognize that African-Americans typically don't have those success stories in their family that have a hugely positive effect on their kids and grandkids?

  10. To put more color in an earlier story I mentioned on this thread.

Right after we graduated high school, I went out with a group of friends to party.  One dude - I'll call him John - was driving and we got pulled over in a fancy neighborhood.. We were all drunk.  There were dozens of beer cans in the car.  Cop asks John to get out of the vehicle and brings him over to his police car.  He had high beams on, so the 3 of us in the car couldn't tell what was going on.  Minutes later, John starts yelling and threatening the cop.  We hear the cop get in the car and drives off while John is kicking the side of his car in anger.

John gets back in the car and is furious.  The cop gave him a ticket for rolling a stop sign.  Why was he so mad? The court date was when he was supposed to be in California, starting his first year as a scholarship football player at a big time Pac 12 school. John is now a super successful businessman with wife and kids.

Upper/middle class white dudes getting off scot-free.  I think about that night a lot.  What would his life be like with a DWI and assaulting a police office charge at 18 years old?

couldn't ask for a better start by the good guys

I'm sure this was posted sometime during the 1st quarter, but even then it wasn't true. When Minny was up 8-10 points, it literally should have been a 16-20 point lead.TWolves showed good intensity earlier but turned the ball over and took a bunch of stupid shots.  That team is filled with a lot of individual talent but they play like dogshit together.

I've never been so disgusted over a 20 point playoff win for the Rockets.  I actually hope Minny whoops our ass in Game 3 or Game 4 just to wake up the Houston players.  We'll be in for a rude awakening in Game 1 vs. Utah/OKC if we coast through the rest of this series.

I want the opioid epidemic to end. Getring the dealers would help, but some of the dealers are physicians. So it’s pretty damn complicated and I don’t have the right answer if I’m being honest.

Cool.  But you should know that the answer isn't mass imprisonment of citizens.
