The problem is what would make someone want to shoot up a school?

Even if you removed all guns, these highly disturbed individuals would be in the population going untreated.

I’m for some gun legislation to reduce body counts but that’s still largely ignoring the underlying problem.

Agreed that mental illness is the underlying problem, but we are decades - if not centuries - away from a general acceptance of these issues from society.  It's one thing for Person A to study Person B and say that Person B has a particular mental issue. The difficult part will be for Person B to identify, accept, and treat their OWN mental issues.

Right now there are people that don't believe in depression. They think it can be easily "fixed".  The mind is a wonderful, powerful, and frightening thing. We are only at the beginning of understanding the ins and outs of how the brain works.

We don't have time to figure out mental illness right now. We need strict gun control laws: required licenses, extensive background checks, magazine limits, age restrictions, stiff penalties for irresponsible gun owners. Society has failed with current laws. Time to adapt.

  2. Mbah a Moute's shitty play has been really disappointing.  I don't know if he's still hurt or if it's just mental, but the Rockets really need him to be the 7th player in the rotation. Love Green's enthusiasm, but he is a weak link defensively.

Ideally we'd have effective Luc playing 20-30 minutes a game so we could sneak in a little more rest for the starters. Hopefully he can reset/recharge with a full 3 days off before Sunday's Game 3.

The Warriors are 15-0 at home with a margin of victory 15.5 points with Durant in the playoffs.

I knew this would never be a sweep but the Rockets needed both game games at home. I bet this is 3-1 in a few days and the series will pretty much be over.

Like I said, it will be a tall order.  But Houston is a lot better than most of those opponents who've gotten beaten down at Oracle. I think (hope?) one game will be close.

  4. Yeah, their bench blows outside of a random Nick Young explosion from behind the arc.  When you have 3 of the best shooters of all time, you don't really try to get bench guys going.

Rockets did a great job of staying all over Klay tonight. 3-11 from the field.  In either Game 3 or Game 4, Klay and Steph will go off and it will be silly. I fully expect one GS blowout and hope for one close game that the Rockets can pull off.

  5. Really enjoyed all the "hot" takes on here after Game 1.  Laughing at my assertion that Houston can outgun and outscore Golden State.  "The regular season doesn't mean anything!" "Who do you have besides Harden?"  Clearly a lot of people didn't watch the Rockets play this year.  Tonight was definitely them at their best, but they did this shit throughout the regular season and won SIXTY FIVE games.

That said, the Warriors are still in the driver's seat. But Houston winning game 2 tonight means they just need to win 1 at Golden State to make it a best 2 out of 3 with home court advantage. It's a very tall order, but doable if they get hot.

  6. KD was very conscious of pleasing other people earlier in his career.

Then he made a decision to look out for his best interests and do things on his terms. He stopped giving a fuck about what other people expected out of him.  Sure, his overall popularity has taken a hit, but good for him if he's a happier person today.

If anything they need to find klay and steph in transition and not lose them in the half court. Half of Klays 3's were wide open looks that he will knock down every time.

Exactly.  With Durant, you just try to force him to shoot jumpers and hope he's off.  There is no defender in the NBA that has the quickness and length to affect his release. Focus on Klay and Steph and don't give them any room to shoot.

  8. I love KD.  When he was with Seattle/OKC, I followed his box score religiously.  I'm a Rockets fan, but my 2nd favorite team was OKC and I wanted KD to win a ring there.

Remember the day he signed with the Warriors vividly. Even though I didn't blame him one bit for wanting out, I was floored when he signed with Golden State.

Since then, I've just been a casual fan.  Don't follow his career closely anymore. I'm glad he's happy, glad he won a ring, glad he got a Finals MVP, but my fandom has definitely waned. In OKC he was the underdog in a small market, chasing LeBron for the # 1 spot.  That was easier to root for.

  9. Definitely a deflating loss. But if we can win Game 2 that gives us a couple of chances in GS to reclaim HCA.

All of the pressure is on the Rockets on Wednesday. Hopefully they handle it well.

Regular season is a totally different animal than the playoffs. That should be known by now. Warriors thrive on the playoffs. They coast through the regular season. Houston played this year desperate for that 1 seed. They got it. And in one game, that advantage was stripped. And they looked outclassed doing it.

Warriors have great shooters, too. Houston does not have the firepower to outscore the Warriors. Regular season numbers or not. Throw all that out the window at this point.

Look, the Warriors and the Rockets were the two best teams in the NBA this season. What they both did in the regular season has transitioned to the playoffs.

Obviously Golden State is ridiculously good, arguably one of the all-time greats. The Rockets will have to play almost perfect basketball to beat them.  I've never argued otherwise.

But I enjoy your typical reactionary hot take after every game, Vic. It never gets old.

Houston needs to force more turnovers (although strangely Curry is credited with only 1 turnover when he had at least 3).  They lost the turnover battle and if they lose this, they'll lose 90% of the time vs the Warriors.

    Agree 100% with this.

    Lulz wut?

KD negates Harden. And then what does Houston have left to try and outscore GSW?

Chris Paul and a bunch of 3 point shooters. You know Houston had one of the best offensive ratings ever this season, right?

  13. The Rockets scored 50 points in 1 quarter vs. Utah. They shoot more 3s than any team, ever. They have the firepower to score a ton of points.

Like they say, it's a make or miss league. If the Rockets are feeling it from 3, they can beat anyone.

  14. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to the other team. GS was great tonight.

Adjustments/situations for the Rockets to have a chance to win the series.

    1. Capela needs to play 35+ minutes every game. He's so good defensively that he can hold his own when GS switches.  His pickpocket of Curry was incredible.

    2. Obviously Ariza needs to wake up. Can't afford him getting in foul trouble and he needs to knock down a few 3s.  He disappeared in most of the Utah series as well.

    3. Gerald Green is pretty much unplayable in this series. I know he had to come in for Ariza, but D'Antoni still gave him too many minutes.

    4. Nene is unplayable as well. He can't defend anyone on the perimeter and he's a negative on the offensive side of the ball.

    5. We need SOMETHING out of Ryan Anderson. Shoot the fucking ball. Good things happen with our offense when he's clicking.

    6. That was Luc's worst game as a Rocket. Hopefully he bounces back.

    7. Have to hound Klay Thompson. He's an unbelievable shooter, but can throw up some clunkers if defended well.  He is the X factor.  If Klay puts a big game, you have no chance.
