  1. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-joel-klatt-show-a-college-football-podcast/id1037085984?i=1000656122662 Klatt has a great podcast. In this o e, he talks about how the Big Noon schedule develops. A lot of B1G talk, no Big XII talk, until he gets to chatting about Fox Friday night games (which he and Gus don’t do). He says there will be B1G and Big XII games on Friday nights. Does the Big XII schedule reflect their Friday night games yet?
  2. I listened to part of the ON3 Sooner Scoop “Unofficial 40” podcast (it is impossible to listen to all of it, unless you care deeply about collegiate softball). It’s a great example of how fanbases obsess on their teams and know little about others. They suggested Lole flipped to Texas because he was concerned about the competition for playing time at OU (because, in their minds, Murphy and Sweat leaving means there has to be an empty cupboard behind?). Also, they are already counting Damonic Williams as a dominant player. They also suggested the reason OU was inactive on Edges in the portal was due to there not being any really good ones (Trey Moore?). They talked a lot about not going to the portal if you like your young players and can count on them developing. To that last point- those young, developing players? You better have NIL built in for that, or you’re just going to develop them for Ole Miss or Oregon. Or Missouri, like they lost that freshman OL to.
  3. I’m in favor of letting markets decide. For a lot of non-revenue sports, the scholarship (and preferred admission) is compensation enough.
  4. The “university provided payments” are a way for poor programs to pay out of AD revenue. Caps are proposed, again, to allow poorer programs to compete. if it came to a vote, it would pass, because the majority of programs are envious of the wealthier ones. (Tip- if an AD or coach is quoted as saying, “Something must be done about this! It’s not sustainable!”, they’re poor). I could envision a situation where the FCS, G5 and Mid2 leagues make such an agreement, and the richer schools form their own division.
  5. This morning, running errands, I decided the OTF podcast, where Bobby Burton interviews a leader of TexasOne Fund would be the thing to listen to. WOW! It was so impressive! For comparison, a couple of months ago, I listened to an OU ON3 75 minute podcast interview with the director of the OU collective. It was almost exclusively talk dealing with issues of having enough money, what’s required to be competitive in recruiting, whether the money is apportioned efficiently, how they determine players’ values, and so on. In comparison to TexasOne, it was just so…crass. The OTF podcast explains the exposure the athletes get to mentors, to community charities (and the other community leaders that help with charities), regular education in financial literacy, and so on. Night and day difference. We can be proud of how our donations are used.
  6. I have a friend who named this @The Rude Awakening Trope”, coming from the Ags. The only possible logic to it- this idea that Texas will crumble under a weekly SEC grind- comes from an Ag theory that there is something in the water in Austin that turns football players into pussies. I guess it’s all they have. I don’t think they will take it well at all if Texas has more success in the SEC than they have had.
  7. Has anyone else heard this from Ag friends- “Texas has no idea what it’s getting into, with the SEC. The physicality and grind is on a whole ‘nuther level”? Ok? Yes, I can believe the linemen are bigger and even faster, than the Big XII, because so many more are drafted. I can believe that the SEC dregs will be more bruising than the worst Big XII teams. That every weak is a physical game. How are Texas and OU handicapped in dealing with that? How are we at a disadvantage to other SEC teams? Especially TAMU? The Ags tell me this as if it makes sense, that eight games in, we’ll be wishing we had stayed in the Big XII. I have heard this enough that I assume it makes sense to Ags, but damned if it makes sense to me. Maybe after beating the SEC champion by two scores in their home stadium, they have to wishcast some reason that Texas will fail?
  8. Major bullshit. The 2013 Cotton Bowl was not a major bowl. The NYE6 CFP agreement had not started and the Cotton Bowl wasn’t part of the BCS.
  9. I thought this was interesting
  10. They were never a draw. They did, however, win like six MNCs in less than 20 years
  11. Suppose FSU, Clemson,…hell, even UNC left the ACC. Why would a conference with BC, Pitt, VaTech, NCSU and Miami be on a lower tier than a conference led by Utah, Colorado, KSU and the rest?
  12. Lesson learned- I have always been a late adapter of technology (example- paying bills by mail, as I have done since early adulthood in the ‘80s), and I realize that can be a flaw. With all the hacking, I expect more personal business to be conducted with bio-verification (fingerprint, facial recognition, return a, etc.) and I need to embrace that as it rolls out.
  13. Bank put the money back in my account. I reported to Arlington Pilice and USPS over two weeks ago and got case numbers. I have yet to hear from actual policeman or postal inspector. I guess non-violent crime doesn’t raise the alarm so much. Again- thanks to all for the advice.
  14. Honestly- all the shows will be better once the games start.
  15. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/oklahoma-sooners-unofficial-40/id1114209557?i=1000654990517 This OU podcast was recorded after they signed Williams, and before they lost Lole. Tune in around minute 37 for the good stuff: -they mock LSU and Kelly for being poor, saying LSU is where OU was last year, NiL-wise. -they pat themselves on the back for signing Williams. “Brent had a plan. He wanted one center and two DTs, and he got all of the actual guys he wanted”. “Who cares if you overpay? You get the guy you want”. “Williams wasn’t signed because of the NIL. It was good, old fashioned solid recruiting.” (just like Switzer used to say when he was buying players). -More portal talk. They have Deion Burks figured as a true star, a for-sure NFL player. -They accuse Texas fans of “sour grapes” over Williams. -They exult in how OU has NIL and the portal figured out now. I know there are some guys that can make good, qualitative assessments of players, such as Williams or Burke. I’m not one of those guys. I doubt the OU podcasters are, either. In a year, Williams may be a star DT for a resurgent OU defense. Or, he may be a JAG, splitting snaps on a 7-5 team. Or, he may be injured or a bust. I’m fine waiting and seeing.
  16. Note- I’m not saying the poster is racist; I’m just a little shocked by the image, and the idea of Jews as puppet masters has an ugly history.
  17. This is the most overtly racist thing I have ever seen on this message board. The caption implies they’re commenting on Zionists (because it’s always the “Zionists” they’re combating, never Jews, of course), but the image is a caricature of an Orthodox Jew. At least his mouth isn’t open to show the sharpened teeth he uses to devour Gentile babies.
  18. 2016-2023 numbers, so it shows Texas just behind OU, which was winning multiple league championships and CFP entries, while Texas was…not. (Plus, Texas had LHN games averaged in). It really clarifies the Big XII. (For them, you really only had to remove the top two opponents) And Notre Dame,…wow
  19. Same reason Trey Moore didn’t? Wadlington said he used to live in the Bay Area, and Cole’s HS was a regional non-factor. Late bloomer, overlooked area, maybe HScoaches not as aggressive in promotion of players to college as Texas coaches…
  20. Wow. They’re not “little brother”. Trying to sync their next contract’s timing with Texas’ is like my little sister- just looking for reasons to be aggrieved.
  21. In Economics, there is a term about auctions called “The Winner’s Curse”- the idea that when you win an auction, you have agreed to pay more for something than anyone else feels it’s worth. (That can be ok, if you have more info about its value, or its value to you). There are two ways to lose an auction: 1. Not having enough money to win 2. Stopping bidding because you don’t believe it’s worth more. I think, with Texas, it was number 2.
  22. Is Brent Venables wearing shoulder pads? Why?
  23. I read last year that Texas has a good reputation for coming through on NIL commitments, with everything legal and transparent, and that is a plus for us, because not every program is that way, evidently.
  24. My MIL (no pics) lives seven minutes away, alone. She is 89 and fairly mobile, but it’s kind of “when”, not “if” on something happening, right? Anyone have any recommendations on those things old people have where they wear them around their neck and press a button if they need help? Is there a monthly fee for monitoring? Any options without a fee? Why not use her cell phone? Because she doesn’t use her cell phone. Any help or suggestions are appreciated
  25. I have been reading for almost a year, on the OU ON3 board (Sooner Scoop) that OU and its fans are upset about tampering, that they are building a relationship-driven program rather than a transaction-driven program, that Venables was just too principled for this game. I believed that to be horseshit, and if your claim is true, it is confirmed as horseshit.
