  1. I think OU will need to hit some big plays to win this game. They have been horrendous on 3rd down this season. OU hasn’t shown the ability to score on 8-10 play drives. I would guess they run some option to help the run game and test Texas’s discipline. This is a game the DL could make a statement vs a poor OU OL. Texas may not need to bring more than 4 to get pressure. (You don’t have to be vanilla in how you bring 4)
  2. I believe Broughton is the highest graded DT in the SEC. Opposition hasn’t been great, but they have held their own. Probably deserve a higher grade, if we are simply basing it on how they have played. LBs have had their moments both ways. I think Texas has given up 2 TDs both were because LBs were not gap sound (UTSA/MSU). What’s that DB grade of MSU didn’t miss 3 open deep shots? I like the way the defense has played, but I’ll wait until at least the Georgia game before pontificating how good they really are. 1st 5 games they have been picking on kids getting off the short bus
  3. Oklahoma has been quite lucky recovering 80% of fumbles this year.
  4. Quinn has always taken care of the ball. I believe he leads Texas all-time in int-att ratio. He has attempted 769 passes and thrown 14 over his career. That is one pick per 55 attempts.
  5. I like adjusted stats, but sometimes they seem to miss the mark. Arch was great vs MSU, but he didnt do much more than Toledo or Florida did. MSU's pass defense the last 3 weeks. QBs have completed 86.2% of their attempts at 10.2 per attempt. This is next level bad. Date Opponent Surface Result Att Comp Pct. 6. Dont know the kid or his motivations, but I would guess he is in a good spot financially based on the schools where he committed. I would guess that means he is not on the market after 1 year, but I am purely speculating.
  7. He was an A&M commit and then flipped to Auburn. 5 star WR knowingly went into a complete rebuild with a dumpster fire at QB. I wonder what would cause him to make a deci$ion like that.
  8. He definitely got a shit sandwich of no OL and no WRs. Just a terrible situation to develop a QB. Looked like Texas for years
  9. Yes, OU is not a shut down defense. They are very good vs the run, but vulnerable vs the pass. They just gave up over 10 yards an attempt to Auburn (pass defense ranks in the 70s). I dont think OU can hold up in the backend against Texas. They lost one of their best players in their NB. They are highly reliant on Havoc plays. They are top 5 in turnovers forced and top 10 in sacks. If Texas protects Quinn, I expect the offense to put up some pts. Texas has seen a better DL this year an held up well (Michigan)
  10. I think that decision is probably going to come down to Arnold, not the coaches. Pure speculation, but he maybe in the process of packing his sh!t up to hit the portal. If that is the case, he is going to do everything in his power to stay on the sidelines the rest of the season and preserve his redshirt.
  11. I doubt Sark thinks like that. He is going to want to start fast and make the freshmen QB play from behind and let Simmons introduce himself as a fellow freshman. I am sure he wasn’t happen vs MSU seeing them run 6-7 minutes off on their opening possession
  12. People are mentioning Cook, because he has been passed by Moore and Wingo. Both of those guys have demonstrated a connection with Arch. Cook is not a lock to be a starter next year, especially if Sark continues to pull a 1st round WR talent out of the portal. That doesn’t even consider the chance that Golden comes back to Texas. It’s going to be a very competitive room, so anything can happen.
  13. Odds are he stays, but in this world of college football I would not make a bet either way. Wasnt that long ago people were sweating Worthy hitting the portal. I feel good about Wingo and Moore. They look to be the top 2 options for 2025. After that who knows if Sark grabs a WR that changes the outlook for some guys or what NIL money gets thrown around
  14. Not sure Sark would go there. The story last year was he was pretty lazy and didnt look good in practice (effort wise). Eventually the mullet swallowed his pride and started him. Ollie rewarded him with a great season and a DUI.
  15. I took CTJ's comment as Terry will be the recruit, that was recruited at 1 spot and ends up succeeding at another. He has been recruited at RB by several schools. I could see him excelling in a Deebo Samuels type role. Sark has been known to follow the Shanahan tree pretty closely.
  16. It's kind of relative. Williams ran a 10.68 as a sophomore, that is still flying. Smith is basically a Greek God. He has made some crazy catches. He will absolutely destroy the combine. To put it in context I think Worthy was around a 10.5 as a soph. Wingo, Smith, and Williams are just freaks. The interesting thought is where would these guys go in this year's draft, if they were eligible.
  17. I looked at 100m times on the 3 big Freshmen WRs. Williams is the slowest of the group (still fast), but he is the quickest (C.O.D) Smith OSU- 10.26 100m Wingo- 10.55 Williams- 10.68 Smith and Wingo are both ~6'3" and 210 vs 6' and 175 for Williams.
  18. He did that a few times. I was wondering if they were teaching him to wrong shoulder the puller (it looked intentional). He also knifed in a couple plays. I am guessing he went 1 for 3 on those. Got 1 TFL and gave up couple decent runs.
  19. He we will figure it out. He will learn to hit the bull rush, when he sees the OT on skates rushing back to mitigate his speed. His bull rush will be about leverage, not pure strength. I just havent seen him use his hands much or use a counter. Been straight sprint to QB or some kind of juke and go. You are dead right on getting out of his pass rush lane (run game is applicable also). That was the double-edged sword I was talking about. You are going to have to live with some of that as a coach, because he can just make plays that other guys can not. He is on pace for double digit sacks. Texas has not had someone with 10 sacks going back to 2016 (cfbstats.com - 2017 Texas Longhorns Sacks, site doesnt go back further). He has 6 TFLs (1.2 per game). Only Ossai in 2020 (1.78 per) and Omenihu (1.29 per) have been better since 2016. Simmons is a freshman and not logging the same snaps as those guys (yet). You dont want to turn him into a robot and lose that play making ability. You have to try to rein him in a bit, but not too much. The biggest thing for him will be gaining the experience that helps him figure out when to break the rules.
  20. He is a bit over-aggressive vs the run, but it is a double-edged sword. Sometimes he gets up field and gets the TFL (MSU game). Sometimes it gets him in trouble (MSU). He is so talented, that he could break the rules in HS and still win consistently. He is going to have to learn, when to break the rules in college. He is one of those talents, you dont want to over-coach. His pass rush is scary, because I dont think he has been developed his pass rushing repertoire. Probably missed something but seems to be just a pure speed rush at this pt. Going to be fun when he develops some counters.
  21. The worst was the spot. The scramble was definitely tight. Hard to tell if he hit the pylon before his knee hit, so I understood not over-turning the ruling on the field. That said the ball was definitely inside of 6 inches of the end zone. Marking it at the 1.5 was just ridiculous
  22. I’ll just add. There is big gap between Ewers and Arch on the extremes. Arch is a great deep ball passer. He does seem to struggle at times with the short throws. Vast majority of the time Ewers is putting that throw on the upfield shoulder giving the receiver a great YAC opportunity. Arch has thrown that a bit behind at times, slowing the play up
  23. The fumble and the TD drop let MSU continue their keep away strategy. That is 10-14 pts that would have forced MSU to abandon their strategy. You can add penalties to the overall fuckery that kept MSU in the game. The penalties have to get fixed, as they seem to consistently show up this season
  24. I think we are just going to have to live with Sark being over-aggressive at times. It’s just who he is as a coach. We don’t bitch when it works. He is very confident in his offense and his abilities to call the right play. It tends to work out for him over time
  25. MSU did hurt Texas with power. Pulling and getting a numbers advantage. That said the biggest issue was tackling. Lot of times the RB was met near the LOS, broke a couple tackles, and a 2-3 yard gain turned into 5-7 yards. Clean up tackling and that number is probably 50 carries for like 80 yards
