  1. One other item just hit me. There really isn't anything like a current back cover. That cover is on a spring and you can reach right into the works. Nothing screwed down and no gasket. Nothing to keep dust, moisture etc out. Granted it has been in a drawer but I am amazed that a 125 year old watch could still run after winding.
  2. And this is just darn interesting. Next month Huntsville has an event called Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll where over 70 of us play various people buried in the cemetery. I am playing the former head of Studebaker and building an early 1920's outfit. I decided I needed a pocket watch. For some reason I have my Dad's old jewelry box which has items from his dad. I found the Longines below. All it needed was a new crystal. It still ran and kept time. The serial number is from late 1890's so 125 year old. My real question that can't be answered is why it was there. Dad never wore it and my Mom made a shadow box years ago with a pocket watch from my grandfather. Also my grandfather probably would not have paid the price for a Longines. My only theory is that Dad acquired it because he played the same person in the stroll 20 years ago.
  3. Seems like the current trend here..
  4. I did yesterday. With everything being rebuilt (engine, transmission, suspension) it is literally a "brand new" 63 year old sports car. Forgot that you can drive fast with top down when you have 105 HP pushing only 2000 pounds. Which is why the first Miata used the MGA as a model. As far as avoiding police - I have a "friendly" speedometer. We did not rebuild it and it seems to think 55 is 45.
  5. I hate to wonder what you were doing. The car only had about 100 hp.
  6. And it's home!! Scariest part was after. It was a full enclosed semi truck carrier and they backed it all the way down the road and then into a 4 lane road. he said there was no way to turn around.
  7. Getting real close. Loading in transport yesterday. Should be here before dinner today
  8. First time you try it - put some tape on the surrounding area. Not difficult but you don't want a "learning" scratch. Really liked my classic sub with the holes for the pins versus non hole models
  9. Camera reminds me of what people always seems to have handy when Sasquatch shows up
  10. Unfortunately you are off by a year on the chase. This game was in 1983 at Auburn. The chase was 84 in Austin. Sorry to be "that expert guy" but 1983 and Auburn still makes me ragey. Claiming it 40 years later is not what I would have chosen but, based on the current landscape - I will take it. I feel sorry for some of the 83 team that have passed on and never got this - Kevin Greene comes to mind
  11. I was at that game. hot as blazes. Had 50 yard line tickets - on like row 3. Remember yelling at Texas bench to sit down so we could see the action. However 1983 is legit (putting on my hardhat after posting). Texas beat us on week 2. Rest of the year we beat something like 7 top ten teams. On New Years Day (actually Jan 2) number 1 and 2 lost. We were 3 and should have easily moved up except for NBC spending the entire month proclaiming the Orange Bowl was for MNC. Never mind that Nebraska and Miami didn't anyone that year. I have always wondered what would have happened if Texas had won. There is a non zero chance that those same people who jumped Miami up would have leapfrogged them over Texas. Rant over.
  12. If you were ever at a business convention in a hotel then you never gave up the analog line if possible. Took so many tries to get a free line that you tried to stay connected for the entire convention if possible.
  13. Well that certainly escalated quickly....
  14. Yep - CVS sent me a text yesterday
  15. They used to be called "crumbs" at least when I was in college. Used to get them every time. However time and lower metabolism makes would make me avoid them today
  16. I just prefer it at 3:00 position if at all. Still love the non date Sub.
  17. Not a fan of any watch that has the date function randomly tossed somewhere on the dial
  18. I was going to post to use 303 but didn't get to it. It is the best. Sometimes hard to find but boat shops have it for the tops on boats so you know it works well in sun
  19. 100K damage to Midway? Seems like a warship might be able to withstand a glancing blow like that with minimum damage - like paint. If it really bent some steel plates than that would be a shock
  20. Now the fun begins .. better start looking for hotel rooms. If you have a large quantity of hilton points - these were much cheaper for me to use than paying in dollars. 60K per night is about 320 bucks and rooms were over 600 at Hampton etc
  21. Same rejection as last year. However I did get to go in 2024
  22. Without any evidence that seems way low for that car. I would go over it with a detailed eye.
  23. First gen Miata - semi cool to some. Not sure if 3500 will do a semi decent one.
  24. No kidding. I remember looking to my left where one of my friends was sitting. He had "levitated" himself about six inches up from the seat with his arms still in same position they were in when they were on armrests.
  25. Yeah - doing any new construction in German cities still involves a lot of risk from 80 year old bombs underground
