  1. Is Jeremiah Smith going to pull a Peyton Bowen? Apparently, his LOI still isn’t in.
  2. Spitting image. I had these pics teed up and ready to go the other day when the whiteboard photo dropped, but I didn’t want to offend the real @Elmer_Fudd:
  3. Is this the genius who flipped from Stanford at the last minute? How do you write aggies so well?
  4. First and foremost, you haven’t uttered a single falsehood about the kid. With that out of the way, I don’t really give a fuck about any of it. I delight in the misery of others…particularly aggies. It’s just how I get down, and judging by the length of @texifornia’s marvelous screenshots thread, I’m not the only one around here with that fetish. As such, this is the very best opportunity to drive those rubes absolutely meshuggah that we’ve had in at least a couple of years. The value simply cannot be ignored. It’s a contract year with Ewers and his pal Cook, and it’s not like Sark has a problem keeping talented, but unreliable dudes (Hall, Neyor) on the bench at that position if need be. Chances are somebody else is going to be willing to drop a much bigger bag on the kid, but from a purely selfish perspective, I’d love to see Texas take the aggies’ crown jewel from that head-to-head recruiting battle in 2021, and then use him however Sark sees fit. I’ve seen him drop a few balls, but I’ve also seen him catch some of the ugliest, most off-target passes I’ve ever seen, as well. The kid has elite talent. I have no idea if he will ever maximize it, but I’d argue that the decision to pursue him in the portal is easily justifiable. Plus, I think I remember ctj saying that Evan cried when his pops told him he had to decommit…if that is even remotely true, maybe he will apply himself differently in Austin. I certainly wouldn’t bank on it, but I’ll leave you with the words of my friend Linda:
  5. Apparently this didn’t post when I hit send earlier. I’d like to add that I was glad Elliott referenced the 2009 match vs PSU in the postgame presser. I was thinking about that very thing during the match. That might be the most traumatic loss I’ve experienced as a fan in any sport, simply because of how great both teams were that year, the 2-0 lead, and seeing it all slip away. Still the best match I’ve ever seen, but getting this one in Tampa felt good. I was shocked at how much ball-watching Nebraska was doing during the match. Batenhorst probably had the most egregious example, but that whole team looked fucking dazed. No help. No coverage. No communication. I always thought Beason was kind of a spare going back to her UF days, but I was surprised at how little resistance the team put up, even with their youth. I mean, winning a three-set match against the #1 overall seed is really fucking impressive, but that team looked like they wanted no part of the competition from the moment they hit 10 points in the second set. It is incredible to think about how far this program has come when, as recently as a few short years ago, service pressure was a recurring issue that seemed to be holding the team back each and every year. It dogged Elliott’s teams for ages, but the past two seasons have been an absolute fucking masterclass in that very department. I point it out every time I watch a match. I’m sure everybody around me is sick of hearing about it by now, but it’s the goddamn truth. I’m very proud of these young women. I can honestly say that the most pleasant surprise for me these last two matches was Barnes. I thought she played outstanding. The stars showed up in the big moments. I believe Skinner and O’Neal have always had championship character. The team as a whole really developed it over the season, and this entire program has developed it over the past few years. The biggest moments don’t faze them anymore. I can’t believe the run they went on. I can’t believe Texas won a championship with a homegrown setter…a true freshman nonetheless. Swindle was everything we (I, at least) expected Shook to be. Congrats to them all. It’s sweet to win it when everybody expects you to, but it is so much sweeter to win it when nobody expects you to. As they say—never underestimate the heart of a champion. Oh, and John Cook can stay fucking salty. Just a tragic victim of circumstance, I guess. I don’t remember him having a problem taking Lexi Sun back in the day. Bitching about Jerritt Elliott doing his fucking job—optimizing his team—as if it was easy to add, what, six transfers in the spring of ‘22 and get them to gel in 7 months or whatever it was. That’s the same shit he wants to claim credit for with his fucking freshmen, in addition to Beason (his All-American transfer, same number as Texas had this year)..except they all arrived in January. Not to be dismissive of their squad, but the one player that impressed me today was the one not up on that stage—Andi Jackson. She’s good. I’ll close by saying, I actually like Jon Johnston from Corn Nation (his rants from the bathroom are funny), but I have to admit that watching him sob at the end of his video made me smile, if only because he posted a snotty video when they beat Texas a couple years ago. What a great day. Apologies for the length. Happy Holidays and Hook ‘em.
  6. He seems to have missed the most “profound concept about humanity's future, fusing optimism, science, and heartfelt storytelling” — The fittest survive. His team can finesse their asses back to the corn fields, carrying that giant L Texas just handed them. No team that loses a three-set match by a combined 28 points deserves a trophy, much less consideration as a “true champion”. That was a fucking annihilation. There is no ambiguity.
  7. Reminds me of that one women’s basketball player Texas signed who claimed they were going to win four straight national championships…which I believe was in the middle of UConn’s million game consecutive win streak. Can’t remember the name because I think she played like half a season and got kicked off the team.
  8. I don’t know, somehow I think cracking a joke insulting a young man’s dignity by insinuating that he is destitute seems a bit beyond the pale, even for this place. That said, I could be convinced to change my mind—I’d assume buying a Cruz jersey for himself…and everyone on this board as soon as they became available at the team shop would be a mere pittance to a big macher like Bill, and it would probably help Daniel and his family escape the deplorable conditions Bill sees them living in. Granted, I’m operating on the assumption that he isn’t the same @billfromlaketravis I remember from BON back in the day, because I don’t imagine that person would be anxious to comment disparagingly on the moderate means of others, but I guess I could be wrong.
  9. I was going to table this, but I see it is still being discussed. This is kind of a long piece on Maalik, so I will spoiler it for those disinterested in another take or somewhat biting criticism. Good luck, Maalik. Hook ‘em.
  10. I had a good laugh yesterday listening to that dumbass who lost his shit on air when Arch committed to Texas last year, as he tried to explain how on earth Georgia was about to lose Raiola to Nebraska. Naturally, it’s all a conspiracy. It’s always great to go back and listen to this shit: I would note that the guy said he would eat his words if Texas was competing for championships in three years..not sure if two years would suffice. I bet he’d hate it if somebody pointed out to him that true freshman Arch would be watching the CFP from the couch had he chosen Athens over Austin.
  11. Lol, I watched this guy get toasted by WMU on MACtion some random Tuesday night. It’s interesting that they apparently used a photo from what I assume was a previous year, because he wore #3 this year. I know that because I saw CMU, remembered how shitty that D was (particularly in the secondary), and rechecked the roster.
  12. Looks like some aggie pulled an academy sports on that ornamental piece above them.
  13. The key takeaway for me from this debacle is that Eric Nahlin is a fucking chaos engine. I have no doubt that all this shit falls at his feet. He is the only person selfish and foolish enough to hit self destruct at the pinnacle of the best fucking season Texas Football has had in over a decade. I suppose the worst criticism I could deliver is that this mess is similar to the shit show currently taking place in College Station. It’s a goddamn shame, too, but this is who that man is and always has been. He is a small person. Period. Bobby was one of the key guys at 247 involved in hiring a struggling local sports anchor who showed up in Nashville and became a YouTube CFB star (Josh Pate), before he left for On3. I think he will be just fine navigating this new set of circumstances. He might suck at ad reads (bad news, @Wulaw Horn) and his on-screen timing may leave a lot to be desired, but he knows this market better than almost anyone. The irony is that it seems the crux of the disagreement was that Bobby’s passion project ended up being more lucrative than the business Nahlin has been running for a decade. And FYI, Ian Boyd fucking sucks. I honestly think one of the characters in Progressive’s “turning into their parents” ads is based on him…you all know which one. He has the personality of a mayonnaise sandwich. His appeal, best as I can tell, is that of an abortifacient—he snuffs the life out of everything he is involved in. I can’t read, watch, or listen to the guy. He is in constant search of galaxy-brain solutions to rudimentary problems. It’s tedious and entirely unproductive. Rod B. is everything Ian isn’t and so much more. @LTtxfan is correct—Scip and Drew are the only people worth a shit for IT on YouTube, but BO&W is correct that Scip, smarmy as he can be, is best in print form. What has kept Bobby and Gerry relevant for decades is what will continue to stand them in good stead going forward—passion, hard work, consistency, reliability, and strong relationships, with both their sources and their followers. Unfortunately, I don’t think anybody is going to come out of this completely unscathed.
  14. Or the even more expensive, already scuffed white sneakers..these motherfuckers go for $600: Several years ago, I made the mistake of asking a girl sitting next to me at LaGuardia if the filthy shoes she was carrying had gone through the baggage handling system. You’d think I’d called her a fat fucking whore…that’s when I learned all about Golden Goose. Anyway, for the record, I wore a hoodie on our flight to and from the Caribbean this summer, and wore my crocs on the beach every day. So, I’m a total weirdo. I’ve been operating under the assumption that every Surly member was some version of Matt Shatt from SNL:
  15. Seriously, thanks for this. We try to make it up to Banff/Lake Louise/Jasper once every couple of years, and this looks like it would be worth the schlep. Apologies for the derailment. Back to the portal shopping/haricot verts discussion..
  16. I liked #12 using the headbutt blocking technique on the kicker. Looked kinda like what Williams was ejected for.
