  2. https://www.scimex.org/newsfeed/younger-generations-are-facing-a-higher-risk-of-cancer-than-their-parents Younger generations are facing a higher risk of cancer than their parents, or don't be obese. Each successive generation born during the second half of the 20th century has faced a higher risk of 17 cancers, according to a US study. The team looked at the incidence of 34 cancers and death rate of 25 for people aged 25-84 years from 2000 to 2019 using US cancer registry data to estimate the differences in risk between different birth cohorts. They say 17 of the 34 cancers studied had a higher incidence in younger birth cohorts. 10 of these cancers are linked to obesity, the researchers say, which means increasing obesity could play a role, and both declines and increases in specific cancers appear to mirror trends in smoking and alcohol use. The researchers say we need to do more work to understand the other factors contributing to this increased cancer risk so we can work on them.
  3. https://www.borderreport.com/news/business-leader-gunned-down-after-complaining-about-cartels-extortion-on-tv/ Business leader gunned down after complaining about cartels, extortion on TV On Monday, the head of the business chambers’ federation in Tamaulipas state, across the border from Texas, gave television interviews complaining about drug cartel extortion in the state. Hours later on Tuesday, Julio Almanza was shot to death outside his offices in the city of Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas. “We are hostages to extortion demands, we are hostages of criminal groups,” Almanza said in one of his last interviews. “Charging extortion payments has practically become the national sport in Tamaulipas.” The problem came to a head when the Femsa corporation, which operates Oxxo, Mexico’s largest chain of convenience stores, announced late last week that it was closing all of its 191 stores and seven gas stations in another border city, Nuevo Laredo, because of gang problems. The company said it had long had to deal with cartel demands that its gas stations buy their fuel from certain distributors. But the straw that broke the camel’s back came in recent weeks when gang members abducted two store employees, demanding they act as lookouts or provide information to the gang. Since convenience stores are used by most people in Mexico, the gangs see them as good points to keep tabs on the movements of police, soldiers and rivals. “We had incidents in stores that consisted of them (gangs) demanding we give them certain information, and they even abducted two colleagues to enforce this demand,” Roberto Campa, Femsa’s director of corporate affairs, told local media. In a statement Monday, Femsa said its stores in Nuevo Laredo remain closed this week “due to acts of violence that put our colleagues’ safety at risk.”

  5. Getting stabbed 15 times to death is not that horrible. Getting stabbed to death over an argument of which came first, chicken or egg, probably is. https://mustsharenews.com/chicken-or-egg-debate-stabbing/ Man in Indonesia stabs another man to death over debate on whether chicken or egg came first Stabbed the victim 15 times The two men did not know each other before meeting at a drinking spot, AKP La Ode Arsangka, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Muna Police, told Kumparan. As they drank, they began joking and exchanging riddles, including the classic debate over whether the chicken or the egg came first. However, the perpetrator got emotional and left the gathering to get a sharp weapon at home. When he returned, DR then brutally stabbed Kadir Markus 15 times, Kompas reported. Team Chicken!
  6. The car owner should start acting crazy like a homeless dude. They'll drop the charges and send him back on the streets in no time.
  7. Wonderful. I get back to Austin on Saturday night. Gonna be awful hard to deal with this bullshit after getting used to average mid 70s/mid 50s temps for a month in Colorado at 9000 feet.
  8. TLDR: Dude follows his stolen car to an apartment complex. People driving stolen car drove there to buy drugs. Car owner gets into fight with people driving stolen car. He stabs a dude, the other people run off. Car owner gets charged with murder. From this short story, I'm siding with the car owner. Fuck thieves. Maybe if the police and the DAs office did their jobs, victims wouldn't have to confront thieves. https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/police-man-charged-with-murder-after-confronting-alleged-car-thief/ AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man faces a first-degree murder charge after Austin Police said an altercation over a possibly stolen vehicle led to a fatal stabbing. Just before 10:30 a.m. July 24, Austin Police officers responded to a business in the 1900 block of East Oltorf Street after a 9-1-1 caller said she was “following a vehicle believed to be her stolen vehicle.” The caller followed the Kia to an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Burton Drive, where the caller then told police a man had been stabbed. Police detained Alex Trevino Garcia, 34, who police documents say approached officers with his hands up while telling police: “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. He attacked me. He attacked me. He stole my car, and [h]e attacked me.”
  9. Get paired with a guy yesterday playing a R7 driver. It was his most consistent club in the bag. Middle of the fairway every drive. Copy, paste every drive. It's all between the ears. If you are confident with the club and hit it well, why spend the extra money? My most trusted club in my bag is a 2014 Adams Idea 4 hybrid. I upgraded the shaft to a Tensei AV Blue. It's my 220 yard fairway finder club for short par 4s with tight fairways and it's extremely easy to hit off the deck.

  11. 103 earthquakes in one week: What's going on in west Texas? https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2024/07/29/west-texas-earthquakes-explained/74590224007/ So many earthquakes have struck the west Texas county of Scurry in the past week – more than 100 at last count – local officials have declared a state of emergency. Scurry County Judge Dan Hicks wrote in his Friday declaration of disaster that since the first earthquake, registering magnitude 4.9, was felt the night of July 22, "damage has been found throughout Scurry County in businesses and residences." 103 earthquakes in eight days From the first large quake of magnitude 4.9, the county has experienced a total of 103 earthquakes, including 12 of magnitude three or more, said Justin Rubinstein, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California. The rash of earthquakes is not naturally occurring, as Texas, in general, is not a very seismically active part of the country. Instead, it is"almost 99% likely" to be linked to local oil fields, Rubinstein said. “We can say with confidence that these are related to oil and gas extractions," he said. The temblors are very likely linked to new forms of oil and natural gas drilling technology that allow companies to drill not just down into the earth but horizontally along an oil formation. They are reaching deeply buried oil and natural gas deposits that are the decomposed remnants of plants and animals in ancient oceans. When the oil comes up, the salt water, which can be millions of years old, also comes up. This is called "produced water" and there's a lot of it. "The ratio of oil to saltwater is low. It can be five or 10 or even 20 barrels of saltwater for every barrel of oil," said Rubinstein. This prehistoric water is much saltier than ocean water and can't be disposed of in rivers or even the ocean, in part, because it can contain contaminants such as hydrocarbons. Instead, it must be pumped back deep underground where it cannot leech into groundwater, a process called saltwater disposal. The large amounts of water being pumped underground in turn can cause earthquakes. "We've found evidence that saltwater disposal is the most likely cause of the earthquakes in Scurry County. This specific area has seen seismic activity going back to 2020," Rubinstein said.

Jennifer Wilson was apprehended in Berrien County, Michigan, and could face up to six years behind bars. Court filings say she informed the police that Dakota Levi Stevens had fled earlier in the day and she discovered him at a neighbor's residence. According to the court papers, the foster mom claimed Dakota began to misbehave when they returned home, throwing himself on the ground outside her house. It is alleged that she sat on Dakota while contacting his caseworker, during which time the boy screamed and eventually ceased moving. Wilson confessed to the police that she initially believed the child was pretending until she rolled him over and noticed his eyelids were unusually pale. The foster mother disclosed to investigators that she sat on Dakota for approximately five minutes. Dakota weighed 91 pounds, while Wilson tipped the scales at 340 pounds. The Department of Child Services had assigned the child to her care just one month prior to the incident, reports the Mirror US. Obese bitch.

All that fried food, no exercising fat gotta be tasty. That's gotta be like human toro.
