  1. File this under a shitty way to die. In another article it stated that the three were chasing a dog. https://www.kvue.com/article/news/local/elgin-well-recovery/269-dd61e4ec-3f2c-4736-9c6c-20a4b300ae4f ELGIN, Texas — A recovery operation is underway in Elgin after three people reportedly fell into a sceptic well on Wednesday morning. The Austin Fire Department said its crews were called in to assist with a body recovery operation for three people from a cistern around 9 a.m. A crew from its Special Operations battalion was sent to help make an assessment. Due to sewer gas and unsafe air, the well is being ventilated until air levels improve, AFD said around 2:30 p.m. Then, the recovery operation can proceed.
  2. Not my finest moment. It happens.
  3. Thread bump. How can we help the teachers? Let's see the list!
  4. Don't be scared of the IRS. They aint gonna do nothing to you!
  5. Maybe. Seller has a certain number of days to ship the item. Mercari auto bugs them to ship. If not shipped after so many days, the transaction is canceled. Then seller has to provide tracking number. Then buyer has to receive the item in the system. Mercari tracks everything. After shipment tracking shows that it is delivered, Mercari will auto bug the buyer at least twice a day to remind him to receive item and rate seller, or dispute. Mercari wants the buyer to accept and process payment ASAP so that they can get their %. Not sure if you can dispute after the 3 day window, but I imagine you have a good case if you bought golf clubs and received a box of chocolate, even after 3 days. I've made 3 purchases from Mercari w/out any issues. But that was 2 years ago. It didn't have all the likely bullshit listings that it does today. This morning I contacted the seller thanking him for the transaction and asking when he expects to ship. No replies. I treating this as a test and lessons learned experiment.
  6. Didn't know where to put this. Fuck rich assholes reason eleventy billion. If hotwheels directs his cronies to grant this asswipe the dam... https://www.kxan.com/texas-water/houston-oil-executive-wants-to-build-private-dam-for-recreation-on-south-llano-river/ JUNCTION, Texas (KXAN) — A private dam proposed on the South Llano River, a major tributary to the Highland Lakes, is the center of a debate in the Hill Country this week as a public hearing set for Thursday evening approaches. It all started in 2018 when then-CEO of Phillips 66, Gregory Garland, filed an application with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, or TCEQ, to dam up the river and create a private pool. --- Landowners along the South Llano River said their biggest concern, if TCEQ approves this private dam, is that more homeowners along the Highland Lakes tributary will follow suit, further straining a river that is already running low. “It could have serious impacts on flow,” said Marisa Bruno, Water Program Manager with the Hill Country Alliance. “As of [Tuesday] morning, the LCRA is measuring that all of the tributaries besides the Llano are contributing zero flow, which means that all of the water right now going into the Highland Lakes is coming from the Llano River.” “If the state grants this permit and allows his private lake to be built up there and impound twelve acre-feet of water, it sets a precedent,” Llano Mayor Marion Bishop told KXAN over the phone. The TCEQ grants permits for private dams like the one Garland proposes. The three TCEQ commissioners are appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott. Since filing his application in 2018, Garland has donated at least $10,000 to Gov. Abbott’s campaign as an individual, according to Texas Ethics Commission filings. Phillips 66, where Garland still serves as Executive Chairman of the Board, has a political action committee that has donated more than $50,000 to Abbott in that time.
  7. Then I have no idea why someone is taking the time to set up bogus items for sell. They will never see the money. What is someone getting from posting and "selling" all of these fake items?
  8. This question is specifically about Mercari, the online trading market place. I've only used it a few times. If you are diligent, every now and then you can find good golf deals. The market process goes I buy an item, Mercari charges my CC, holds payment to seller until I receive the item, acknowledge receipt of that item, and agree item is as described, then Mercari releases the payment to the seller. The buyer has 3 days to dispute after receipt of item, or non-receipt. If successfully disputed, CC charge will be canceled and no one gets paid and buyer is not incurred charges. Anyway, I hadn't used it in a couple of years. I am looking to buy some used clubs for my daughter. I noticed there are many sketchy brand new zero rating sellers selling way too good to be true priced golf equipment. I'm almost positive all the listings are scams and that the buyer will never receive the item. But per the process described above, I have no risk to buy. So I pulled the trigger on an item. My CC shows a "pending" charge which means it's not yet been cleared so it's technically not hit my ledger yet and won't until I confirm receipt that payment is released by Mercari. Assuming it's a scam, what is the "seller" getting from this bogus sale? It's not like he is ever going to get the money if it's bogus. So that got me thinking, is Mercari the "seller" in these listings? Does Mercari have access to the cash in the "pending" transaction? Can they invest that money and earn interest on it in the few days/week that it takes for this transaction to be deemed bogus? It may be a tiny amount for my transaction but if they are doing this site wide, it has to be a nice way to earn interest money. TLDR: What happens to "pending" transaction on CCs? Can someone access that money while it is pending?
  9. I am amazed the City hasn't forced ARCH to move somewhere not a block from a central entertainment district. If a city builds an open air shed to hang rotten meat year round, then it can't be surprised that flies swarm the area and never fucking leave. Get rid of ARCH and you address much of the bullshit in that area.
  10. Jesus: "Bitch, who do you think sent the snake and hawk to attack you?"
  11. wait...she was wearing a hijab? didn't notice.
  12. I don't think this is a grotesque kind of way to die but just shitty that some crazy bitch maybe killed friends and family by feeding them poisonous mushrooms. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/3-dead-wild-mushrooms-family-lunch-australia-erin-patterson-investigated/ Australian police on Wednesday were trying to figure out how three people died and a fourth became critically ill after apparently eating wild mushrooms at a family lunch. Homicide detectives have been investigating the case. Police have interviewed the woman, identified by the BBC as Erin Patterson, who they say cooked the meal at her home on July 29 but didn't become ill herself. Police released her without filing any charges but say she remains a suspect. Patterson told media outside her home in the town of Leongatha, in Victoria state, that she didn't know what had happened. "I didn't do anything," she told Network Nine on Monday. "I loved them and I'm devastated they're gone." Patterson declined to answer questions about what meals were served to which guests or the origin of the mushrooms. Victoria Police Det. Inspector Dean Thomas said it wasn't clear what type of mushrooms the guests had eaten, but their symptoms were consistent with those from a death cap, a particularly deadly variety. He said it would take some time to determine what happened and police were keeping an open mind. "It could be very innocent but, again, we just don't know," Thomas said. Patterson had been hosting her in-laws, Gail and Don Patterson, both aged 70. Both died at area hospitals. Also at the lunch were Gail Patterson's sister Heather Wilkinson, 66, who died, and husband Ian Wilkinson, 68, a Baptist pastor. He remains in a critical condition in hospital, awaiting a liver transplant, BBC News reported. Thomas said the woman who cooked the meal was separated from her husband but police had been told their relationship was amicable. Her children were also at home during the lunch but did not eat the same meal, police said. Detectives searched the woman's home on Saturday and took several items. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that police were also conducting forensic tests on a food dehydrator they had found at a nearby landfill to see if it was linked to the case.
  13. https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/downtown-austin-businesses-pitch-in-to-hire-private-security/ In efforts to deter things like illegal drug activity and unruly behavior near Sixth and Brazos Street downtown, a group of businesses – including Stream Realty, the Littlefield Building and The Driskill – have hired private security guards to patrol the sidewalks, according to Stream’s attorney Richard Suttle. “The best news I’ve heard in four years,” Jesse Fortney, owner of Gnar Bar, said. Gnar Bar is near the intersection where security guards are patrolling. IN-DEPTH: Challenges of hiring private security for downtown Austin businesses The businesses hired the guards from Next Level Security. The guards patrol the intersection of Sixth and Brazos from the corner to the alleys. KXAN spoke with one of the guards off camera, who said their primary goal is to break up large groups of people experiencing homelessness who gather on the street. The Austin Police Department said it has been made of “several areas where quality-of-life crimes are occurring,” and such discussions have led the department to implement more high-visibility operations in impacted areas. Private security guards are not subject to the same use-of-force privileges as sworn officers. When responding to such situations, which primarily involve people experiencing homelessness, police said officers connect individuals with available services. “Some building managers and owners have expressed needing constant security in these areas,” the department said in a statement. “APD cannot commit these resources to certain areas 24 hours a day/seven days a week, and is aware that some business owners and managers are opting to hire private security to ensure their businesses are protected.” Texas DPS has new focus on downtown Austin patrols Suttle said the private security has already made an impact. The guard KXAN spoke with said they have the capacity to ask people to move, but have to tap APD or DPS if situations escalate. “We’ve done quite a bit to advocate for a safer situation here on Brazos Street,” Ben Marullo, who lives near Sixth and Brazos, said. “The city was not effective in keeping our community safe.” He welcomes the security presence, but said he’s disappointed private money had to fund it. Fortney echoed that sentiment. “It’s sad that private money has to do it,” he said. Fortney said he and his customers already feel safer outside his bar. “A small chance of hope for business owners and people walking around,” he said. Council Member Zo Qadri, whose district includes downtown, said public safety is “very important” to his office. “Talked to many businesses and residents that have reached out to our office, sat in on a lot of meetings with business owners,” he said. “It’s not anything that we take lightly.” Qadri addressed APD’s years-long staffing shortage, and said he believes the quickest fix to downtown safety is securing another long-term police contract with the Austin Police Association. When KXAN asked Qadri his thoughts on businesses resorting to using their own money to hire private security, he said “I think the concerns they have are valid.” “I think it’s unfortunate,” Qadri said.
  14. Huff was one of the guys who help stopped White at the line. Years later Huff said in the interview that USC f'ed up by not having Bush in the game with White because he would've been assigned to Bush and wouldn't have been in the pile to help stop White. Harris was probably the most important guy because he avoided his blocker and met White pad level. Kelson was pulling on White from the back. Maybe those two could've stopped White without Huff, but I'm glad USC had Bush out so we didn't have to find out.
  15. I didn't know if I was more "holy shit, the insanity" or "holy shit, a black man is swimming!"
  16. In hindsight, this team was not going to win. Coaching was shit, which everyone already knew. The stage was just a bit too big for the young players. The old players wanted their time in the limelight. It was a collision of shit.
  17. They suck, out of position or not. They lack basic skill.
  18. I complained 2 games back about her absolute shit first touches, but this is atrocious. Any striker worth a shit easily controls this ball and puts it in a corner. She traps the ball to the keeper.
  19. This team was not going to win the WC with Smith and Rodman, regardless of how out of position they played. They had flashes but nothing about their play led me to believe we could win the entire thing with them. Smith, Rodman, and Morgan accounted for 2 goals in 4 games with the 2 goals being against the worst team in the tourney. Save for 1/2 a game today by Rodman, I'd say those 3 sucked shit and are the reason we are out of the tourney. Will Smith and Rodman get better? Will Morgan retire from the national team? We better hope so.
  20. The stupid fucks kept Gerg. It wouldn't surprise me if they keep this fuckstick. Shooting ourselves in the dick/pussy is going to be the motto of US soccer in the 2020's.
