  1. Isn’t the point of LoveSac is that it’s not a “sectional”? It’s a modular system that you can rearrange from time to time and even add on to? I don’t know how valuable that is but I don’t think you just compare it to a packaged sectional for pricing. They are comfortable. Also. there are generic versions of the system available online at a lower price. If you are not going to use it as a system and just want a sectional to sit there for 10 years, it’s not worth it.
  2. Just got back from a three-night trip, our first since 2018. It wasn’t a trip like what is usually talked about here, as this was with my 80-year-old parents. Let me just say that: damn, I love Vegas. We stayed at the Bellagio and watched the fountain shows from our room. Just magic, still, after all these years. Mom and my husband went to see Bocelli at the MGM at the same exact time my Dad, sister and I were at T Mobile to see George Strait. We all walked to our shows. Where else does that happen? We also snuck in RuPaul's Drag Race show at the Flamingo on another night (not with the parents!). Cheesy and fun too. National Finals Rodeo and Pax 12 Championship game were in town. Great vibe everywhere. Just packed enough and good mix of crowds: lots of sequins and cowboy hats. Meal highlights: Mon Ami Gabi (perfect as always…for the price and atmosphere and tremendous service, the best place in town), Carmine’s (great food – except for the amount of food waste -- and great atmosphere), Jaleo (a must stop for us, especially now considering what Jose Andres has been doing with WCK) and Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars (ridiculous). We’ve been going to Vegas since the 70’s. As kids, our parents gave us a roll of quarters at Circus Circus and sent up to the 2nd floor games. So, we have always loved it. I was happy to be back and ready to go back for just a couple’s trip. There is so much more to do.
  3. I thought season one was brilliant, but this season is even better. It takes some skill to put together a bunch of dislikable characters and make them so watchable. The music and visuals are just perfect too. I'm betting that Greg is the Wyoming Cowboy and he is scheming with the gay scoundrels. We know that there will be multiple bodies in the water, so the yacht likely goes down. How it all happens, I don't know.
  4. Texas 37, TCU 16 501 total yards
  5. On a nice day, the most lovely lunch in Dallas.
  6. Living in Dallas, I rarely go to steakhouses when I travel. But, I ended up at Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak at the Fairmont Scottsdale once. It was a truly great and memorable. We ended up serving the wine we had there at our wedding. The appetizer of a ravilolo with egg yolk was extraordinary.
  7. Are some of you actually blaming the (assumed) loss on missed holding calls? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I had one dose of the shingles vaccine. I expected the worst, but I barely noticed it and had no side effects. Going in for my second dose tomorrow. Is that the one that sucks?
  9. Backdating policies is not that uncommon. It corrects errors made in the binding process. BUT, it all keys on a No Known Loss Letter. In this letter, the insured certifies that it is not aware of losses or incidents that could lead to a loss in the gap period. It seems that is where these folks lied (allegedly).
  10. The first spread event outside of Africa was a gay rave in Europe. Lots of people, very close to each other and it spread. Naturally, it popped up at a similar event in Puerto Vallarta and now a handful of cases from a gay event in Dallas. It's not a gay diseases, but these festival type events are a perfect place for it to spread and then you have easy headlines. The CDC piled on by saying that "although anyone can spread Monkeypox, current tracking suggests hat gay and bisexual men make up a high number of cases" even though tracking is suspect right now for a variety of reasons.

    Dallas | Italian

I am not sure I understand that. Yes, they are different. But in every respect other than the view, Lucia was much better: hospitality, service, food quality, presentation, value. I do get that the Monarch experience is different and believe me, we will go back (although I prefer Kessaku upstairs), but if I had to recommend an Italian restaurant to someone, it would be Lucia.

We went to the Lucia for our first sit down meal there since pre-pandemic. We live nearby and used to go often, but just had not made it to the new spot. I'll echo dcbc: the meal was just a "wow". Blew Monarch away. Food was just incredible. You think it's the best (tomato crostini, steak tartare, risotto, goat cheese ravioli) that you have ever had. Service was delightful and the wine list is as great as ever. We went through two bottles, a $58 Barbera and a $90 Brunello. There are not many places in town that offer quality wines at those prices (or double or triple those prices). As is always the case there, the entre was the weakest link of the meal. We normally just order more appetizers and pastas. The new spot is not as charming as the original little space (though they did nicely incorporate elements of the old restaurant) but I can see how well it works. They have at least 2x the covers and a full cocktail menu now. The bar is for full dinner service and by reservation only. There is no walking in here, which is a shame, but I get it. They sell out every seat.
  13. Yeah, but if you are starting in McAllen, it's a hike to get to Delia's in time for Sunday morning barbacoa.
  14. Ybarra's is 100x better. We used to get and bring back Delia's then we discovered this place. I highly recommend you give them a try. Also in Weslaco.
  15. Was sitting on beach bed in Riviera Maya sipping champagne and trying to enjoy the morning when a parasail boat lost power and got stuck in the sand just up the beach. A bunch of guys gathered and tried to free the boat, but that was not happening. The two people in the sail were stranded in the air, hanging over buildings and praying that the wind didn't die. Death hung over all of us. Two miserable hours later a snorkeling party boat big enough to pull the parasail boat got the smaller boat off the sand and got enough power to it to bring the people in. We all cheered and raised our glasses.
  16. This is an interesting point. You may be right because Budha's first few episodes were not that great and he may not have survived. But, his cooking in the last 3 episodes has been top notch and could stand up against those chefs. It would just be a matter of when he kicked it up to the next gear.
  17. Question: I need to plan a birthday dinner in New Orleans for a guest of honor that really doesn't like creole or Cajun food and is iffy on any sort of aggressive seafood. She is being a good sport and is going to Antoine's for a nice lunch the next day, but I'd like to be cool with her and find a nice restaurant that doesn't focus on that food. Any thoughts?
  18. Like many of you, I have been underwhelmed by the chef talent this year, but last night was a definite step up. Both challenges were difficult. But the food appeared to level up compared to the rest of season (except for many the doppelganger challenge that was great). I would have gladly paid good money for all the dishes in the elimination challenge (well maybe not the uninspired pork barbecue). Evelyn brought fine dining and Sarah has definitely come back swinging. Buddha is still the favorite and rightfully so.

    Dallas | Steak

A bit of reality, a bit of satire Steakhouse Arms Race is Back Seriously, who buys these $200+ steaks? I'm not shy about spending money on meals, but that level of steak is just not a thing for me. The steakhouse experience is as much about the sides and the martinis and the wine. I would happy with a perfect $40 8oz filet and lots of fun stuff around it. But, now it's $60 if it is even on the menu.
  20. So, we are a part of this wave. Husband and I tested positive over the weekend for the first time. Symptoms are relatively mild but annoying and not pleasant. The fatigue is really the worst part. No fever and oxygen levels are good. I'm missing a pretty important in-person work meeting. We had relaxed our mask usage for sure, but had tried to take a middle of the road approach. We went to a concert Tuesday night but didn't get into the main shoulder to shoulder crowd, stood off to the side with at least some amount of distance from others. It wasn't enough. Not certain, but that is the most likely place we got it.
  21. We did E a few years ago and it was one of the great dining experiences of my life. Jaleo is stop on almost every trip, totally fun and delicious (just do the tasting menu and ask for a small paella). Bazzar Meat was also excellent; it offered the molecular stuff similar to what you get at e, but a la carte and a steakhouse menu too. It was in what was called SLS at the time, which was a real downer of a place* *have not been to Vegas post pandemic shut downs, so I don't know how these places are doing.
  22. We got a set from Outer last year and then bought more. We love it. It's well built and comfortable. We have it in an area that is not covered, so the little flaps that we can easily pull up to cover the cushions on a temporary basis (without getting the full covers on) are really great.
  23. Yes. Same as Dune. I guess it's a style of filmmaking that I just don't enjoy.
  24. Virtually everyone I know complained that there were so many lines uttered that were inaudible. I agreed that it was one of the worst jobs of sound mixing I have ever heard. I saw it at the theater with high quality sound and then again at home. Not better in either case. The august style of the film overwhelmed the dialogue. But, it still won Best Sound; so what do I know?
