  1. I mean, you may think that, and if herman is canned in a couple years you’ll feel justified. But it doesn’t change the fact that the possibility of that happening last year is about on par with All of aggy waking up one day and not being racist ignorant fucks by and large. Just completely unrealistic to the point of impossibility that it’s a highly mockable take. You should have to put back the Greg davis avatar for this nonsense.
  2. Could be but I doubt it based on UT and Hartzell's history with this stuff. People act like Texas is unwilling to make changes. They've been renaming buildings and tearing down statues for years. More needs to be done but the idea they aren't willing to make changes is simply incorrect. Then go look at Hartzell's history in the business school. When students were vocal about Simkins they made changes. When students were vocal about the confederate statues they made changes. When students were vocal about the Jefferson Davis statue they made changes. Where are all these "empty promises"? And I'll be the first to criticize Texas if changes aren't made in reference to the players demands.
  3. Well, when they renamed Simkins Residence Hall and removed the four confederate statues back in '17 it took a couple months for that to play out. 3 weeks is a limited amount of time if they're taking the same approach (i.e putting together a task force, advisory board, BOR vote, etc). Even when Texas removed the Jefferson Davis statue back in '15 it was a fairly long process. I get why people might not like the process but the idea these other schools are out in front on these issues is complete nonsense. Texas has been renaming buildings and removing statues for years. If anything Texas was one of the first universities to take a stand on these issues.
  4. I've been thinking it for awhile, but I didn't want to post it because it comes off like sour grapes if you're reading the tea leaves. But objectively, the red flags are there: NFL father / college coach or analyst or whatever, spending the Covid days training his kids, and then becomes an assistant coach on their high school team. A private north Texas parochial high school team at that. And Tommy missed his entire junior season with an injury. If they weren't legacies, then I think there would be more discussion about this. OL is the most difficult position to project from high school, anyway IMO. The services have been historically bad at their OL evals, especially in comparison to other positions. I've seen too many camp warriors who are maxed out and never make the leap as their competition improves and ages. Or maybe I've just been soured by the long and distinguished list of 4 and 5 star OL busts that UT has endured over the last decade? There are few freaks of nature that stand out, guys like Leonard Davis, but for the most part it seems like a crapshoot when the $9.95ers do their OL evals. Bag on Herman for a lot of things, and he will get shit on massively around here if/when the Brocks take their talents to Tuscaloosa, but he hasn't been a star fucker on the OL and he's rebuilt that room from the ground up into a strength. Whatever metrics they are using to evaluate high school linemen seem to be working.
  5. LSU mock class predictions Shea QB: Garrett Nussmeier RB: Corey Kiner, Logan Diggs WR: Deion Smith, JoJo Earle, Brian Thomas, Chris Hilton TE: Michael Diggs, Shield Taylor OL: Garrett Dellinger, Tristan Leigh, Owen Prentice DL: Anthony Hundley, Landon Jackson, Zavier Carter, Saivion Jones, Maason Smith, Keanu Kolt, Naquan Brown LB: Raesjon Davis, Prince Kollie DB: Khari Gee, Sage Ryan, Nathaniel Wiggins, Andrew Mukuba Sonny QB: Garrett Nussmeier RB: Corey Kiner, Ke'Travion Hargrove WR: Deion Smith, JoJo Earle, Brian Thomas, Chris Hilton TE: Shield Taylor OL: Garrett Dellinger, Tristan Leigh, Savion Byrd DL: Anthony Hundley, Landon Jackson, Zavier Carter, Saivion Jones, Maason Smith, Keanu Kolt LB: Raesjon Davis, Naquan Brown, Greg Penn III DB: Khari Gee, Sage Ryan, Jardin Gilbert P: Peyton Todd Interesting that neither has a Texas RB, or an interior OL mocked
  6. Texas WR with a 50 catch season in recent history: 19 Duvernay (106) 18 LJH (86) 18 Collin Johnson (68) 17 C Johnson (54) 14 John Harris (68) 14 Jaxon Shipley (59) 13 J Shipley (56) 13 Mike Davis (51) 12 J Shipley (59) 12 M Davis (57) 10 James Kirkendoll (52) 09 Jordan Shipley (116) I know they pick numbers out of the air all the time but if Tarik Black has 60 catches next year he is going to have one of the top 5 catches by a Longhorn in the last 10 years and one of the top 10 seasons by a WR in the last 10 years (excluding Kirkendoll who had 2 TDs, 13 Shipley who had 1, and 14 Shipley who had 1) So if he busts out 50 catches he is one of the best WR in the last 10 years at Texas and the best Grad Transfer in the last who knows how many years? ...come on.

  8. Are we considering Jack as an extension of DL or LB? How many Jacks do we sign is the real DL question. Somebody convince me that Harris is actually a Jack. He looks like a very good future WDE SDE, and his frame would support that. That leaves Sanders, maybe Juan Davis. They're recruiting Jackson and Terrell Tilmon as flip candidates. Tilmon doesn't appear to be a contingency, so I expect we see some edge contingencies pop up soon as well.
  9. Davis’ journey to a .92 was stunted due to camp season. He would have gotten a bump in December if he didn’t have the worst edited hudl of all time. But, for a kid to give not a single flying fuck about a rating is commendable, at minimum. There’s some film out there of 7v7 and some other receiver-y things, and he looks great in all of it. But, there’s not very much. No one really has any idea if he’s good or not. Elite frame, built like jordon thomas. Hands appear sticky. Who knows? I do like him, though. Mystery.
  10. I wonder if Davis actually plays a position other than QB, if he gets re-evaluated and the accompanying BOMC ratings bump.
  11. Well, Davis I have the same feelings as you do. I'm not the evaluator you or Burt or others are on this site, but the people I speak with who know their shit in that regard say that Juan Davis is a motherfucking stud all the way. Flypaper hands, room to grow. So I have zero problem with that take. They do not say similar things about Cain.
  12. Agreed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I will say a lot of people probably feel the same way about Juan Davis and to them I say "fuck that shit. Go get him." -- so maybe, Yurcich saw enough with Cain, that's my hope. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  13. Every year the message boards seem to do this with some random player - labeling them a huge miss. It's usually someone that trainers have elevated beyond their actual value. Sturdivant ran a 4.67 40 with a 4.31 shuttle at 177 pounds. He's a really long strider. He had an 11.7 100M PR until one single run where he got an 11.27 (color me skeptical) ~ 21' L J 38' TJ. He just isn't top tier athlete for his height/weight/position. If 247 rankings are about NFL potential, someone tell me the potential of a 6' 177 lb guy with these numbers at the combine. Even in the 247 write up you get this ... Adding 25 pounds to those testing numbers doesn't scream good idea. He's a productive WR and good football player, but he does not jump out as a huge miss or screaming take to me. If one of you can sell me on him - please do. Maybe if this had been a Coleman take I'd feel this way, but the guy who did the eval and the recruiting on Cain was Yurcich. So I'm going to go ahead and say that while it may not be compelling enough for them, I've watched enough Yurcich WRs that I've never heard of wreck defenses to go ahead and give him the benefit of the doubt. I'll say it again, outside of JoJo Earle and Quay Davis, this crop of in-state WRs is just meh. I could see Teddy Knox or Elijah Bean or Ketron Jackson developing into a quality WR, but I could also see any of those 3 guys mired on the depth chart for a few years only to xfer or graduate without a measurable impact. None of them make me feel like Texas is clearly missing out. Earle is painful. He's fantastic. Davis with his head on would be elite. Alexis is a no-brainer. Outside of them, I think waiting to see if any of the WR class develops is a good plan. It sucks that it's a down year in CA for WR as well.
  14. 6) Donovan Jackson (+5)12) Tommy Brockermeyer (-2)17) Ja'Tavion Sanders (-1)33) LJ Johnson (-4)36) Billy Bowman (+1)46) Camar Wheaton (-4)51) Cody Jackson (+1)55) Clayton Smith (+2)62) Kaidon Salter (+28)68) Shemar Turner (-1)73) JoJo Earle (-1)74) Landon Jackson (-1)77) Savion Byrd (-41)82) Tunmise Adeleye (-2)93) Dematrius Davis (+5)100) Eli Stowers (+17)102) Jalen Milroe (-5)104) Behren Morton (+87)108) Reuben Fatheree (+4)109) Bryce Foster (+4)124) Elijah Arroyo (+247)130) Marcus Burris (+2)136) Tate Williams (+86)142) Preston Stone (-35)156) Ketron Jackson166) Jordon Thomas (+1)169) Jordan Jenkins171) Latrell McCutchin (+1)174) Quay Davis (+4)176) Shadrach Banks (-47)179) J.Michael Sturdivant (-84)195) Sawyer Robertson (-32)205) Kedrick Blackshire207) Garrett Nussmeier209) Andrew Mukuba (-1)215) Albert Regis (-2)222) Tavierre Dunlap (+84)230) Morice Blackwell (-1)238) Deuce Harmon (-1)241) Ismael Ibraheem (-1)242) Ezra Oyetade (+447)
  15. Yeah defense is looking just fine to me. Roach has even made a couple more bullish comments on Turner lately. Not bullish as in we're gonna get him, but at least we're not completely dead like we'd all been assuming. I've been assuming that we'll keep working on Landon Jackson and Clayton Smith, however unlikely that may be. At least we're set up so that'd be a cherry-on-top situation. What about Burris, haven't heard much on him lately? Not gonna happen? I was looking at RB yesterday. Our offer situation there is kinda interesting. Brooks, the top 4 RBs in the nation (including Wheaton and Johnson), a random dude out of GA who has been committed to Clemson since August, and Brandon Campbell, who I assume was a Brooks back-up plan. What you attribute to laziness made me wonder if they're just content to use that number somewhere else if they can't get a guy that's elite. Just going by rankings, I'm not even sure who they'd pursue that would be an obvious RB1 to Brooks' RB2. At WR, I just hope the don't end up taking guys that can't play here to get to a certain number. Not saying Jackson and Alexis fall into that category, but the pickings are getting slim. Quay must really, REALLY be a flake. The less we talk about OL right now, the better. Oof. If we don't land the Brocks, it's truly panic time, which is a horrible spot to be in. I thought your closing thought were overstating things on my first reading of your post, but yeah basically punting on OL for an entire year would really, really hurt.
  16. Whoops. I pretty much never go into the CR but at this point, I can’t even keep track of what thread I’m in because everything seems to be converging right now. To get us back on track, I looked out our offers by position in this class. Defense looks pretty damn good across the board. DT could get a little iffy if we miss on Turner, but we’ve at least identified and offered backup plans. We’re on Plan A or B at almost every other position. Offense is a different story... We’re set at QB, and we have our RB2, but it looks like we’ll whiff on Wheaton and Jackson. After that, we don’t have any offers that are realistic. Drayton needs to be working to identify OOS RB1s, not sitting around His house watching NCSI all day. It’s truly insane what a lazy, low volume recruiter he is, and that Herman lets him get away with it. WR isn’t great, but if we land Ketron Jackson and Alexis, then we’re in a decent spot and have some options for the last WR in the class. We probably need a couple more OOS offers here, too. At TE, Davis is a question mark to stay and we didn’t take a TE last year, so we at least need Davis plus another. I wouldn’t hate taking 2 true TEs if we can find good ones. Boulware just made some offers, but we’ll have to wait to see if we have a chance with them. Helm seems like the most realistic, but he’s no lock. Hopefully we can find a late riser here as those guys tend to be the beat TEs anyway. Guys who’ve been TE size since their SO year tend to not work out. OL isn’t good either. Even if I put on my burnt orange colored glasses, I can’t come up with a 5 good, realistic options based on our current offers. We’ll definitely need a second wave of offers soon. Overall, the lack of backup offers on offense when we’re not in a great spot for our primary targets is not a good sign. it seems like Herman’s betting the offense will be good this year and our current offers will turn towards us, but as we’ve already seen multiple times, that kind of hubris can really hurt us. This football season is becoming more and more of an all or nothing proposition not just for Herman, but for the whole football program. If he lays an egg this season regardless of whether he stays or gets fired, this will become a really, really rough class and will undo a lot of the good work Herman’s done on the recruiting trail to raise the talent level in the program in the last three classes. A small 2020 class combined with a bad 2021 class will weigh down the program and cause depth issues for the next 3-4 years, like we’ve seen with Mack and Charlie’s departure. On the other hand, if we do win big, this roster will be one of the top 5 or 6 most talented in the country for the next 3-4 years with a deep and talented QB room and Herman will be set up for success for the foreseeable future.
  17. How do I remove rep? I don't want like or hate Burntcowboy's post. I just want to hate Brian Davis with his fucked up lyric changes which do nothing but fuck up the song.
  18. Roach is on that Howe, Ketch, Golden, Danny Davis diet.
  19. GTFO with that shit. This class has a bunch of ELITE motherfuckers in it already. Sanders. Bowman. Milroe. Thomas. Harris. Conner. Blackwell. Looking really good for Ibraheem and maybe even Mukuba (who is drastically underrated IMHO). Add in a fucking awesome moldable piece of clay like Juan Davis and a ProKick P in Pearson. Yes, it's a fucking hot mess at OL and RB. No, I have no idea what will happen at either spot but the core of this class is fucking incredibly talented. Last season was the first time we haven't done this in a fucking decade. It's part of why I am bullish about where we are. Guys that used to not only go on the 2-deep but actually start as FR are getting to RS and develop.
  20. It's VaTech, he was a good get for them. Probably left because Davis broke up their big Texas-to-Blacksburg movement. Fong's already CB'd him to Nebraska (strength 6)
  21. Yep Samples leaving hurt us with Byrd and Davis, and nearly knocked us out completely with Wheaton.
  22. I think you're spot on with the "OK to exciting" comment, but to me there are some mitigating factors. Regarding WR, like someone was saying recently, who is the really painful miss other than Earle? Quay is also a premium talent but obviously there's other stuff going on there. I also think our perception is being colored a little bit by the fact that Sanders and Bowman - two of the top 5 prospects in the state - and to a lesser extent Milroe all committed early and without much fanfare. If Sanders were undecided right now, visiting LSU and OU and places like that and giving positive quotes while we sit here and play Nervous Nellie, then he committed to us in December, we'd be very excited about that.
  23. we only took 19 in 2020 so there is plenty of room to count back via EEs. From what it looks like to me, I think it'll be a full class +2/3. I could see 28 given the right combination of guys along with the large JR class and NFL/transfer numbers. I think Ash and Yurcich will have to go to hand-to-hand combat to see who gets Davis. I fully expect him to end up rushing the passer -- and his NFL future certainly would be bright there...
  24. Milroe has been kicking the tires on Auburn until they signed Davis. Subbing them for bama isn’t new. Yurich hasn’t exactly been murdering this recruitment.
  25. Henry HUDL looks really good, can someone fill me in on why it Coleman so long to offer? I get it that we wanted Earl, Jackson and Davis...however, JJ on tape looks like he should have gotten an offer early in the year. Hopefully the staff can play catchup, looks like a solid take for 21.
