Doing a work trip to Monte Carlo looking to stay a few more days. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go from there ? French Rivera ? Northern Italy ? Will have another 4 days or so to burn before we come back. Have done Switzerland & Rome South in Italy. Thanks

Drink some martinis and play some baccarat.

What business takes you to Monte Carlo? Are you an arms dealer or spy?

Check out the fabulous parking garages of Monte Carlo.  No, that's not a joke.  They're fastidious about their parking garages.  The floors are always painted, and they're kept so clean that you can hear the squeak of tire rubber no matter how slow a passing car is going.  And they need to keep them that clean, because there are a lot of seriously expensive cars in there.  If you are at all a car enthusiast, you ought to take a few hours and check it out (particularly the public parking garage at the Casino).

Otherwise, are you saying that you're going to have four free days?  If that's right, that's a little bit tough.  With that amount of time, I would just rent a car and bop around the French Riviera between Monaco and Cannes.  There are plenty of good places to eat along the coast and plenty of beaches to just hang out on and relax.

If you're into history, maybe you want to make it over to Avignon and see the former papal palace.  Or if you're an art lover, you could go over to Arles, which has a couple very good museums (one focusing obviously on Van Gogh).  But either one is really a full day's excursion (the drive is around three hours each way to either place).  But apart from that, I can't think of anything that would be worth seeing more than what you would see and do in that short stretch of the Riviera.

Agree with everything LL said, but would add you could also drive a little ways into Italy. Spent a couple of nights in a town called Menton just across the border and it’s amazing how much the vibe changes from French to Italian in a matter of a few hundred yards, er, I mean meters.

Nice is fine but kinda just a run of the mill mid sized French city. Cannes is okay for festivals and art/film things but otherwise, the smaller places along that stretch of the riviera are more interesting and quaint. St Tropez is great for people and boat watching also.

Unfortunately not, wife won her company’s platinum award. We are going on their dime for the 1st couple of days & then staying a few days more on our own. Keep the ideas coming, thanks

Need to see pics of wife topless in order to offer a good recommendation.  Being the Cote d’Azur and all.

I’m currently in Aix En Provence having just come from the Riviera. Assuming you are going before the end of September, as others have said, given the amount of time probably best to just bounce around between Antibes and Menton. A great train connects each of the beach towns. You would need a rent car to really explore deeper than the immediate surrounding areas, but I’ll say that parking in the actual beach town areas really sucks. A few thoughts:

From the Eze Sur Mer train station, you can hike up the Nietzche path to the old preserved village of Eze. It’s touristy to be sure, but still pretty cool and the views of the Riviera from the very top of the garden are great. The hike requires shoes and water and you to be in decent shape; it’s not a leisurely stroll but tourists do it every day.

Menton is much lower key with an Italian vibe. Cool town.

St Jean Cap Ferrat is beautiful and has the Rothschild grounds. The Four Seasons on the tip the peninsula is stunning, but hits the wallet fucking hard. Villa French Sur Mer is right there and also cool.

Le Sentier du Littoral is a nice little walk along the coast of Antibes. Need a car for access.

A bit further inland, but St Paul de Vence is a cool preserved village to walk around.

Cannes is a dump.
