Anyone stay there recently? My wife won a trip in a benefit auction. We have a city excursion, a wine-tasting tour of Saint-Emilien, and a river dinner booked as part of the package. We are looking to fill an additional 2 1/2 days.

First thing to do is learn how to spell Bourdeaux. Second thing is to be sure to wear shorts, t-shirts and flip flops everywhere you go.

Sorry. You’re right. There is a smaller town spelled Bourdeaux but the main city is Bordeaux.

I would say to catch a Girondins game if you're there during the season, but they got sent down to the 4th division for financial troubles. It might still be interesting to catch a game as Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux is nice.

You're just an hour away from Dunes du Pilat, which is a steep dune at the beach, with a nearby national park and nature preserve.

Bordeaux is known for a tasty pastry called Caneles, baked in beautiful small fluted copper molds which make great souvenirs and gifts. You can buy them from the baillardran shops.

Get a bottle of Sauternes and enjoy with your caneles.

Pretty much every Saint-Emilien wine I've had has been really good, so that should be a real good time.

I'm more of a Left Bank guy but any Bordeaux wine will be a good one. :)

The Dunes du Pilat is a good suggestion, there are a couple of nice beach towns around there, Arcachon probably the most popular.
