My parents had two of those monstrosities.  A main one in the den and Dad had a monaural tube Magnavox that had a giant klipschorn type speaker.  That latter one really sounded good.

My parents had one as well.  Nine-and-a-half feet long and probably 400 lbs empty.  Reloaded with McIntosh gear and a Dual 1245 in 1976.  I couldn't help but rescue it from the estate sale when my mom moved out of her house.  I restored/serviced everything including the McIntosh speakers.  It sounds pretty incredible now.

Never had an 8-track deck.  Middle section used to house a small Sony TV, but it's record storage now.

I never had one of these.

We definitely had one of those 8-track players with the plunger on it.  Really satisfying.

Can't be 100% sure on first download, but probably Horse With No Name by Neil Young, Walkin in Memphis by Bruce Springsteen, or Mrs. Robinson by The Beatles.

You sure it wasn't Superfreak by Sixpence None the Richer?

I'm fairly certain my first CD's were via Columbia House.

They called.  You still owe them money.
