@MaybeACoordinator I read the obit, too; I have a friend he used to cover way back in the day. Hate to hear it. Those demons can trample many people who move to Nashville. In 2022 traveled extensively, and while on airplanes or in rental cars would go down musical wormholes, and as a recovered alcoholic, it sometimes became unbearable, simply because country music is pretty much about either having feelings or attempting to escape them.
IMO the family wants solace and closure, and since they can't understand the disease, they cling to their narrative. At one funeral for a 41 yr old, I heard, "His heart just gave out; I guess the good lord needed him in heaven," when he took too many Xanax and didn't wake up. I've seen that scenario or a variation thereof about a dozen times since I put the plug in the jug.
