  1. Is Union Square Cafe still good? It’s been a while since I’ve been there.
  2. In the early 90’s (college) I had a sexual relationship with a gal who is currently a teacher at AHHS. Not a Spanish teacher though. She was way too wholesome for me. I was obsessed with drugs and sex.
  3. Had a chance to attend Simply AA in Irving last night. Great group, very big book centered. I knew a half dozen or so people from the Lakeside conference, so it was great to see friends. For any potential alcoholics, or traveling alcoholics who find themselves in DFW, they are a solid group.
  4. The ROI just isn’t there for me, but you can give it a go.
  5. Makes sense that they would get the dazed and confused gang back together.
  6. I’m still wrapping my head around a foot of railroad track weighing 100 pounds.
  7. Lol thinking La Fonda is “ritzy,” it’s really not. My children went to Keystone so I was a regular at the Main location for many years, and still love sitting on the patio when I make it back to SA. Really enjoyed taking my current (2nd) wife there for the first time.
  8. I converted my WorldCom options within 1/4 point of the stock’s historical all-time high, resigned, and then started at Williams all in a whirlwind 1 hour on the first business day, 2000. And later on, declined an offer to join Enron’s bandwidth scheme. I can only imagine. Did they let you keep your laptop?
  9. We are doing the summit. And I did NYC Christmas week a while back, culminating at a stay at Castle On The Hudson in Tarrytown, which was very neat.
  10. This spoke to me. If you're like me, it's been a lot of wack-a-mole.
  11. This week or the 15th? My trip has morphed into including my daughter’s college roommate and my wife’s best friend and her guy. Hoping it doesn't devolve into him renting a mega yacht and trying to play oligarch.
  12. The government pays my son to carry the M17 but he chose the Hellcat for his off-post piece when he has to venture through Fayettenam. I’m intrigued by the P365.
  13. PSA Academy is notorious for not keeping their shelf labels updated; on more than a few occasions I’ve scanned items that come up significantly less than anticipated. One day I found a rack with a dozen or so $189 Loomis fishing rods with my preferred specifications and several scanned for $80 - even though they were all otherwise identical. That model rod hasn’t changed in years, and even though it’s not my favorite I keep them on hand for guests who fish with me. I pointed it out to the manager, who just shrugged and said that maybe they were rotating stock and that the scanned price was correct. So I bought 3 of them. The same thing happened with a $230 Concept C bait casting reel - it scanned at $180. And now I play the Academy scanner game.
  14. Just ordered one, thanks for the recommendation
  15. I might be going against the grain of this thread, and it might not have been the best financial decision considering my rate, but I received the biggest paycheck in my life today, and the first thing I did was pay off my truck. Every non-mortgage debt I carry. That said, I’m going to take care of some minor bodywork, including a tailgate dent inflicted by a crepe myrtle lining my mom’s driveway, as well as a new bumper. Also would love a state-of-the-art head unit with car play and maybe some better-quality speakers. Seventy-two thousand miles and runs excellent. Is there an upgraded shock absorber available that might improve its ride and handling? Tundras run like trucks. Also I need a lockable gun mount, perhaps even one that fits in the console. To fit a Sig P320. Any suggestions?
  16. That stuff is cool as long as you’re going easy on yourself. When I got sober and bought into recovery, I realized a few things. Life shouldn’t be a beat down. And I wouldn’t treat a friend the way I treated myself. I’m instinctually forgiving and tolerant of others, but not myself. My self-dialogue is sometimes harsh, but at least now I realize it. I’m human and that’s the best I’ll ever be. The discipline fallacy is that I can control and enjoy things, but in reality if I’m attempting to do so, I’m not. It’s a difficult posture to achieve. So in terms of discipline, really the only hard and fast rules I have are 1) step 1 is an everyday step, every morning I wake up with untreated alcoholism and I remain that way until I make contact with a higher power, and 2) go to 3-4 meetings a week and participate in service work, reading, and talk to other alcoholics. I have to remember that the bar for excellence is really low. Don’t drink, go to meetings, help others, and life falls into place. And it helps if I can get honest and get into gratitude.
  17. Nowhere in recovery circles is discipline considered a virtue. In fact, it gets in the way of capitulation. Willingness, yes. But the whole paradox is that discipline has to come from God, not self. Honesty, yes. Open-mindedness too. We recover when the pain of continuing to suffer becomes unbearable.
  18. My dad’s life insurance beneficiary was “the estate of,” which is why we had to probate. But his stocks were paid to my stepmother who had UBS split the proceeds into 2 additional accounts that were then assigned to my sister and me. She will have to account for the gift, right, even though it was done er dads wishes? His will was very specific, and my stepmom and I were co-executors so it went really smoothly.
  19. Has anyone bought a new truck but negotiated a tire swap prior to taking delivery? The OEM goodyears must be manufacturer seconds because they are just plain awful. I would love to tell the dealership “ill take it. Negotiate the fat out, and then hit them with a “last thing - I promise. You're gonna have to take the original tires and put new Michelins on. We got a deal?” They should be able to sell the original shoes through the parts dept, right?
  20. WSJ “exclusive” Apologies if it’s paywalled. https://www.wsj.com/articles/israel-strikes-iran-amid-new-international-push-to-contain-tehran-11675004979?st=v83urhg5ovald7d&reflink=article_copyURL_share
  21. God bless you. There are no words.
  22. Congratulations!! I sure hope I get grandkids soon. No pressure though.
