  1. Damn, these people are stupid.
  2. Call me crazy but how does answering questions affect the recovery of any of the missing? Seems evasive.
  3. I read a case study about the response to the Pentagon Sept 11th attack a few years ago. So many "cowboy" fire departments responded there was no way for Arlington FD to control what was going on at the site. Best part: people were parking everywhere without much thought about access for everyone else. I was amazed at some of the footage I've seen. Looks like the Delaware River (but the Delaware looks like that all the time). It also reminded me of the speed and debris from the 2004 tsunami.
  4. I don't want to put this in the Flood thread as I'm sure emotions are raw enough already.
  5. Whatever happened with her husband. Heard he ain't got no green card.
  6. After Grenfel Tower I did some serious recalibration about how much I trust anyone's direction or advice in an emergency. Some of those people could have gotten out if they hadn't followed direction to shelter in place. After Uvalde and the story of the woman who was at one point handcuffed by the police, got them to remove the cuffs, then ran in and save her kids was another data point.
  7. I was ruminating on that as well, but just wondering what it must be like to have a lifetime job (well, I don't know if Texas has term limits) with a nice income and perks and all that whether you do anything at all or just nothing. No accountability, no consequences. You just have to wear a tie sometimes.
  8. My takeaway is that it's interesting the margin was 77% to 22% in all three counties.
  9. You seem to be filling in some blanks that aren't really there. Let me help: We are sorry any children, or anyone really, died in a natural disaster, If you vote Republican they either enact policies, or listen to things other than facts (Jesus), or cut budgets for the very entities that could prevent things like this from happening, We are concerned that with other disasters looming, this will be a foreshadowing of something significantly worse. Let me know if you understand what I just typed.
  10. Mercer County, holla! Where's Massachusetts? Losers!
  11. I'll explain it to you: Rain, in amounts absorbed by the earth or handled by normal or routine collection is OK, Rain that exceeds that amount is dangerous, One of the things government is supposed to do is protect people. You know, police, firemen, etc. This costs money, Government is big enough to do things for "the public good." So, costly things like lighthouses are maintained by the governments, not the private sector, which makes all decisions on profit & loss, The funding requests come from experts who know all about "1000 year floods" and "worst case basis" and all that, plus an idea of what to expect for the next 20-40 years. They have the education and experience for this. Kind of like how civil engineers knew how to thick to make the walls of Tom Mueller Dam. If for whatever reason this system of people and resources is interrupted, there can be problems. When there are problems, like maybe someone's house flooding, people want to know why. The normal response would be to fix the problem, maybe one that shouldn't exist in the first place. Let me know that you're tracking with all this and I'll continue.
  12. Natural disasters - Check Sports - Check (ask Kaepernick) Groceries - Are we talking about Freedom Fries and wine boycotts? Then "yes" I guess, Fucking - Check (the act and the results of? Check)
  13. "It could have been worse." As someone said of TahoeHorn, "he'll be believe in any conspiracy theory but not climate change."
  14. I'm watching Andreeva v. Baptitse right now and they appear to be in slow motion compared to the Emma v. Tigress match.
