  1. these goddamn hummus farts. it's like they're not even mine. the invisible man is sitting here next to me, just tooting away. the mother fucker. c'monnnnn coffee. do your stuff.
  2. agree with switzer and 2x on the shifting standards of major components as a big consideration. but if it works for you, ride it. otherwise, I'll just say the scary stuff generally turns out to not be so scary on bikes with current geometry, dropper posts, etc.. for old farts like me, there's a lot of unlearning to do. gotten past a lot of that, but there are still days where shit just doesn't look good to me.
  3. doesn't look like he has any arms. level of difficulty is up there.
  4. with a side of mayo toast. stay true, [future] man.
  5. well, she's an aggy, so she has that built-in football knowledge level they all claim. and she's on her ipad facebooking or playing sudoko the whole time, every atm game we turn on, so how the fuck would she know whether they are or not? a few plays later, LSU qb throws a pick. wife: "Oh no!" me: ???? (and I have to work very hard to suppress my rooting against them, although not so much when they play LSU) wife: well, I feel bad for him [the qb]
  6. (aggy) wife: the aggies are always so good in the red-zone. me: ????? next play: Mond coughs it up trying to go over the top.
  7. that's it. couldn't remember the name (even though I described it as having ledges, above). and I would agree, Ledges flowed better, ccw. couple puckery drops would be likely hikeabikes going the other way (similar to Dump Truck, heading toward Rudy's, iirc). also, navigating was a bit of a challenge at times, signage being hit or miss as you cross streets and whatnot. so make sure your gps is working.
  8. so yesterday we strapped the kids in, gave 'em a little bit o' vodka in a cherry coke, etc to sort of see my MIL and her dad. we've done this trip dozens of times, and usually hit fairly new Whataburger a little ways south of Red Oak. for some reason, this time she wanted Wendy's in Hillsboro. shockingly, it sucked. pretty sure the fries had been on the kitchen floor, at some point. but at least I got to ask her, "Do you like Wendy's?" and giggle like a child for several minutes while she looked on quizzically.
  9. there is one XC loop trail I'm aware of (but didn't ride) at Leatherwood. Back 40 in Bella Vista is one of those bucketlist trails. that would be my recommendation for XC. there's a lot of debate about which direction to go. I went counter-clockwise, and thought it was pretty good, that way. I happened to pick a trailhead with the longest downhill run on the trail, right off the bat. so maybe that galvanized my feelings on going ccw. I did one of the little side loops, supposedly the technical one, and it did have some rocks and ledges to contend with. a nice break from the flowing-through-the-pines thing that is most of the trail. per Strava, my loop was 22.57 miles, 2016' of climbing. fwiw, everyone else I saw that day was going clockwise, but they were prerideing for the race, that weekend.
  10. jfc. that sucks. Sorry dude. but the steerer shouldn't be cut that close. I gotta think you can find spacers small enough that will salvage it. that is, assuming the shop that cut it unnecessarily short doesn't own their mistake.
  11. very cool. I didn't get to ride anywhere in Bentonville besides Coler Park. some big stuff there ("Drop the Hammer" being the most famous). trouble was: a) it was pouring rain, and b) I was alone with only one day to ride. no lifts or shuttles there, and with the wet conditions, it was tough going. couple badasses (driving sponsored sprinter vans, in town to support a XC race up at Bella Vista that weekend) said Coler took a lot of pedaling to keep enough speed for the jumps, so I didn't feel so bad. I wonder if Slaughter Pens is similar. I can definitely recommend Lake Leatherwood, just this side of Eureka Springs, if the jumpy stuff is your thing. much bigger, steeper terrain, so no problems at all carrying speed (vids are posted around here somewhere...October 2019). they tell you to park at the baseball fields, but I was the only one that did (maybe I'm illiterate). but call them to make sure they have a shuttle driver working the day you want to hit it. DH #5 was my favorite, iirc. there is one xc loop to get you up to the top, but how many laps do you have in you, going that route?
  12. leftover smoked pork butt mac&cheese. And she said, "Hey rambling boy why don't you settle down Boston ain't your kind of town There ain't no gold and there ain't nobody like me I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee"
  13. my wife has been making noises about Instapots, lately. my response has consistently been: gotta get rid of the bread maker. doing the math, I figure I would've gotten laid about the same whether I got her the bread maker she asked for or not. "fool me once", etc.
  14. huh. thought that was just dandruff. these computer glasses ain't worth a damn.
  15. ham hinge, anyone? was tryna see if I could get these Hebrew National dogs to levitate. didn't work. had 3 dogs left in the package, so cooked them all, but didn't want the extra tortilla (watching my weight).

had a related conversation, the other night. I wondered if you can tell when your mind is going. like, at what point do you lose consciousness of your consciousness. because just before that point, I'm out. fuck wasting away.
  17. ok, whatever. it's not about the nail. the extent of my gardening involvement is limited to the heavy lifting. I built my daughter a vegetable garden box out of a giant skid from my wife's previous employer and made two trips to the dirt store to fill it. and I picked up some chimney flues for my wife (another pinterest thing, I'm sure) to plant some cactus and shit in the front of the house (where the once-proud boogie board resides, in pieces). oh yeah. I also eat the peppers and tomatoes out of the veggie garden. no one else in the house does, even though they're awesome.
