  1. sorta good riddance, tbh. I've had a few great repair experiences there, and quite a few not-so-great ones that have pushed me towards taking on more and more of my own wrenching, over the years. their inventory has (understandably) dwindled away to the point where the only thing I buy there is Stans and chain lube. their turtle-up act for covid has pushed me even further away. I now take my LBS business to Monkey Wrench or Peddler in town. the Parmer store is a suicide run of stop lights and soccer mom stupidity from my house, so I avoid it as much as possible; although I suppose when it's time to retire my p153, I'll have to head out there for another Kona or a Transition. so my experiences with BSS lately tell me Hill has been wanting out for a while, so this really comes as no surprise. can't blame him. it's been a good run. rpr conditions were primo. a bit of a circus, though
  2. stepping off a skinny is how I blew up my tibia...so skinnies are mostly bypassed nowadays, per my personal risk/reward calculus. probably heading up to rpr today. didn't get near as much rain as we did, yesterday; and it dries out quick.
  3. ain't nothin' but a thing, dude. well, at least that's the mental approach. I bottomed out on it twice, today. but it's totally rollable. you know that. in a lot of ways, WC root drop is tougher. bummer about your trip, @KuЯdt. a novel experience, I guess, and certainly par for the course, this year. more of the same, today. sorry about the music. it's been stuck in my head for 3 days.
  4. this post not fit for the chilisnob thread (probably disqualified from this one, as well). made a batch of green chili with porkbelly and a batch of regular red, on monday. finished them both off in a sort of yin-yang format after my ride, today. cheesed.
  5. me too. hasn't been quite that long for me, but I've been living on a pot of chili, some Tiff's Treats from my boss, and whiskey for the last several days, so I need it. maybe also try some of the video tricks posted up thread. gettin old. I don't remember cold weather riding being so painful. every little rock and bump just jarring my hands and wrists.
  6. reminds me of the first time we took the kids skiing. my wife bought the girls each these fucking furry croc boots. like, regular (shitty) crocs, but with these white fuzzy high tops. zero grip, and I told her so. "it'll be fiiiiiine", she said. fortunately, the weather on the way there sucked. she got to see for herself in Lubbock how bad the boots were, so we got decent ones at Academy before we went up in the mountains.
  7. this was discussed some pages back. based on Kurdt's input, I'm now doing 2.7k and 30 fps. I also changed the aspect ratio to "Super", whatever that is. seems to work pretty well. I've not really researched how to make it look good on youtube. it seems they're gonna do whateverthefuck they want with it, sooner or later. res on some older vids has changed on yt, even though they were recorded with the same camera settings. at least when viewing on my ipad, the early parts of most recent posted vids are either pixelated, choppy, or both. no one else seems to notice, so I got that going for me. rode 4 days, last week. 35mi, almost 6k ft of climbing. had one long day (15.6mi, 1976ft), but the rest were each 5-7mi and 800-1200ft. now if I can keep from replenishing my liquor cabinet, I might burn off some turkey and dressing...
  8. 2000. 238k miles. on S Mountain. this shade setup sort of evolved with the wind. don't ask me to replicate it. my surf yak is there on the ground.

  10. these goddamn hummus farts. it's like they're not even mine. the invisible man is sitting here next to me, just tooting away. the mother fucker. c'monnnnn coffee. do your stuff.
  11. agree with switzer and 2x on the shifting standards of major components as a big consideration. but if it works for you, ride it. otherwise, I'll just say the scary stuff generally turns out to not be so scary on bikes with current geometry, dropper posts, etc.. for old farts like me, there's a lot of unlearning to do. gotten past a lot of that, but there are still days where shit just doesn't look good to me.
  12. doesn't look like he has any arms. level of difficulty is up there.
  13. with a side of mayo toast. stay true, [future] man.
  14. fixed
  15. well, she's an aggy, so she has that built-in football knowledge level they all claim. and she's on her ipad facebooking or playing sudoko the whole time, every atm game we turn on, so how the fuck would she know whether they are or not? a few plays later, LSU qb throws a pick. wife: "Oh no!" me: ???? (and I have to work very hard to suppress my rooting against them, although not so much when they play LSU) wife: well, I feel bad for him [the qb]
  16. hides nipples better, apparently
  17. (aggy) wife: the aggies are always so good in the red-zone. me: ????? next play: Mond coughs it up trying to go over the top.
  18. ok, circle bean flicking
  19. that's it. couldn't remember the name (even though I described it as having ledges, above). and I would agree, Ledges flowed better, ccw. couple puckery drops would be likely hikeabikes going the other way (similar to Dump Truck, heading toward Rudy's, iirc). also, navigating was a bit of a challenge at times, signage being hit or miss as you cross streets and whatnot. so make sure your gps is working.
  20. so yesterday we strapped the kids in, gave 'em a little bit o' vodka in a cherry coke, etc to sort of see my MIL and her dad. we've done this trip dozens of times, and usually hit fairly new Whataburger a little ways south of Red Oak. for some reason, this time she wanted Wendy's in Hillsboro. shockingly, it sucked. pretty sure the fries had been on the kitchen floor, at some point. but at least I got to ask her, "Do you like Wendy's?" and giggle like a child for several minutes while she looked on quizzically.
  21. there is one XC loop trail I'm aware of (but didn't ride) at Leatherwood. Back 40 in Bella Vista is one of those bucketlist trails. that would be my recommendation for XC. there's a lot of debate about which direction to go. I went counter-clockwise, and thought it was pretty good, that way. I happened to pick a trailhead with the longest downhill run on the trail, right off the bat. so maybe that galvanized my feelings on going ccw. I did one of the little side loops, supposedly the technical one, and it did have some rocks and ledges to contend with. a nice break from the flowing-through-the-pines thing that is most of the trail. per Strava, my loop was 22.57 miles, 2016' of climbing. fwiw, everyone else I saw that day was going clockwise, but they were prerideing for the race, that weekend.
  22. jfc. that sucks. Sorry dude. but the steerer shouldn't be cut that close. I gotta think you can find spacers small enough that will salvage it. that is, assuming the shop that cut it unnecessarily short doesn't own their mistake.
  23. very cool. I didn't get to ride anywhere in Bentonville besides Coler Park. some big stuff there ("Drop the Hammer" being the most famous). trouble was: a) it was pouring rain, and b) I was alone with only one day to ride. no lifts or shuttles there, and with the wet conditions, it was tough going. couple badasses (driving sponsored sprinter vans, in town to support a XC race up at Bella Vista that weekend) said Coler took a lot of pedaling to keep enough speed for the jumps, so I didn't feel so bad. I wonder if Slaughter Pens is similar. I can definitely recommend Lake Leatherwood, just this side of Eureka Springs, if the jumpy stuff is your thing. much bigger, steeper terrain, so no problems at all carrying speed (vids are posted around here somewhere...October 2019). they tell you to park at the baseball fields, but I was the only one that did (maybe I'm illiterate). but call them to make sure they have a shuttle driver working the day you want to hit it. DH #5 was my favorite, iirc. there is one xc loop to get you up to the top, but how many laps do you have in you, going that route?
