  1. I know it doesn't fit the contrived acronym, but:
  2. It’s pretty simple. You do what Hillary didn’t: have an economic message that wins back Obama voters who defected in ‘16. A centrist neoliberal message won’t cut it this time. You need to offer what Pubs will not, a fucking hand up. As I said above you also need to get activists wet for the candidate. The best path there is with a candidate like KH who pairs hints of a lefty populism (critical of TPP for lacking worker protections) with the obvious ceiling-breaking GOTV-worker appeal. Clinton didn’t lose because of racism or sexism. She lost because of many other factors, and one of them was she forgot to fondle the giblets of all of her base. You want to convince bubba in the Midwest that the wall won’t fix their Chevy or keep the lights on? Then offer some real redistribution from the billionaires raping middle America by shutting down mom and pop shops and outsourcing/automating their jobs away. You want to re-convince them that free trade makes more people better off? Give them a reason for the buy-in. Simply putting up the old white guy won’t fully realize Dem potential in ‘20. He may draw a few white former union workers back, but the base will be deflated. He may win, but it will be closer than necessary with him.
  3. Dems got almost 50% of the congressional votes in North Carolina. Obama won it in ‘08 and nearly did again in ‘12. That’s gettable with a candidate that excites the base. Georgia is now a toss up and shenanigans there this year only get folks fired up. It’s quite silly to think Wisconsin is a safe GOP state. The Dem path is much easier than many think. And that’s why they should aim to first turn out the progressives and minorities and only then throw a bone to centrists like me. Kamala/Beto.
  4. Exciting, immaterial stuff.
  5. In Matthew 5:3, sure. But Luke 6:20 lacks “in spirit.” Luke was probably the earlier written gospel. And the “in spirit” is most often interpreted to mean that simply being poor doesn’t confer the special blessed status, but being fully understanding of poverty through that experience does. It’s a narrowing of the class, not a change of type, of folks with the auto-admission.
  6. I think an executive order confiscating firearms from white people unless they smuggle a pregnant Honduran into the country and pay for her abortion would be problematic for him. That’s about it, though.
  7. Trump is a raptor testing the electrified fences around his authoritarianism. Pretty soon he’ll realize the power is shut off.
  8. Eternal scoreboard on aggy and 0U.
  9. And, like everything for the last two two years, it won’t fucking matter. Trump isn’t losing a single nut left in the basket of deplorables. 51-54 senators need those nuts, and a vote/comment against Trump and those nuts flock to a primary challenger. The house can investigate, but that’s it. Their findings will be interesting to historians debating how we let Emperor Toaddick consolidate power so easily.
  10. No, they learned. Not stepping up for the furor of the base would have sapped Dem energy headed into the election. They played a meh hand the way they had to.
  11. They also chose Taco Bell as the best Mexican restaurant.
  12. Yeah, they’re wrong. Beto got this close because he shunned the nonexistent center. He’s just 4-10 years too early. Demographic shifts plus much needed party building will take this state the path Virginia took.
  13. Do we have reason to be optimistic about next year's line?
  14. Seriously. I haven’t checked the board today til now, and this is the first page I looked at. Some people need to step away from political discourse for a while. You only get to vote once, and I’m guessing most here already have. Go do something that makes you happy, ‘cause clearly posting here only brings out the inner Lewis Black style rage explosion in some of y’all.
  15. Yeah, I’m not reading more than a couple sentences of what amounts to a series of bitchy process stories. Those usually suck from the professional media, unless it’s about some mundane process that’s actually of interest to me. How a self-important pseudo-intellectual interacts when his viewpoint is unpopular is simply not.
  16. After exhausting every other option, the Terps decided to do the right thing.
  17. Yeah, it’s fucking excellent that 4 in 10 Americans are hopelessly pathetic, whinging assholes.
  18. “Mr. Gorbachev ... how much you want for that wall?”
  19. You can’t just turn it around. If the constitution and the TrumOP machinations within its boundaries leads to fascism, then that’s where we go. Some folks act like we don’t have crises every four score or so that lead us into an inferno and back out again. The last two times (Great Depression/WWII and the War of Southern Treason) we adjusted within the USC, and the USC took on new meanings/got reinterpreted. But the time before that we created a new country. Maybe the country as we know it survives with some structural adjustment. Or maybe Putin wins, and we become something(s) new. But this is really only the beginning stage. As someone said above, I think, this isn’t 1942-5; this is 1932-3. Power hasn’t been consolidated yet. My fear is that a blue wave, even a small one, creates the impetus for the equivalent of the Reichtag fire. If that’s the route the party of trump takes, they’ll be successful. All they need is ~35% of the country to believe their line of bullshit, and the remaining 15% necessary will bring the donuts to the coronation of Grand Pumba Orangetard.
  20. That’s pretty unfair. He’s a tremendous hypocrite.
  21. You would volunteer? Why haven’t you?
  22. The press has been using riffs of "Houston, we have a problem" since Tom Hanks uttered that line. I fully expect, "Texas is/isn't back!/Is Texas back?" to stick around until something catchier comes along to annoy us.
  23. But he's not black, so your points are invalid.
  24. Not much, but here's the short version:
