  1. I don’t give a shit about contests…but as soon as the cedar retreats, I am gonna join you fellas in culling pork. One of my favorite past times is walking the land in March/April to shed hunt and stalk pork.
  2. Here’s your grinder. No idea about the life…but the quality and control of the grind is second to none. I make pour overs, espressos, and aero press (another gadget I highly recommend for one offs). https://fellowproducts.com/products/ode-brew-grinder
  3. Your username is really paying dividends now. Well done, sir.
  4. Surly discounts? 😍
  5. I was thinking it might be that with all the rain last year, they had plenty of natural graze and didn't need to move around as much? Is that possible in your area?
  6. Taking all my Gene Ingram's to the grave with me. For those of you not inclined to sharpening....I would recommend a Spyderco Sharpmaker. Makes for a pretty idiot proof system. Everyone I've convinced to get one loves them. Not as good as a belt sander / strop, but better than complete free hand if you aren't comfortable with sharpening techniques.
  7. You may already have this...but I have enjoyed sharing "The Way Things Work" with my son. It's not a typical book, more of a reference / coffee table book, but my son really enjoys reading about these fundamentals (he's a few years younger than yours though). That said, like your son, mine is not much of a reader and as such, he is drawn to more graphic novels. I feel like this book is similar to graphic novels, but more technical vs story. I was also going to recommend a slightly more advanced book called "Thinking Physics". Apparently it's only available used and it's crazy expensive now...wtf. Anyhow, if you can get your hand on a copy, it's another great resource for realistic explanations of how science drives the products that we use in our daily lives.
  8. Just dropping in to say "thanks" for recommending Bill's book. I'm only 2 chapters in (started it leisurely this morning) and really appreciating his approach towards application of philosophy. Excited to dive in.
  9. Really surprised the ducks didn't notice that the decoy was attached to a vehicle. Not to mention one that had a shotty mounted on the side!!
  10. This weather is bullshit.
  11. Had a good afternoon yesterday. Hit the stand after the rain subsided...really enjoyed the cooler / drier air. Deer were moving like I've never seen in the bottoms. Great to see the action! Bucks were on the does. Mostly on what looked like the younger does (possibly this years?). This young man showed up and gave me a show. He would not leave this one doe. They criss crossed my field 3-4 times before disappearing into the woods. I originally put him at a damn good 2.5 based on neck / body size, but think he's 3.5 after further assessment (mostly from disbelief that a 2.5 can grow horns like that). I'm guessing 17-18" inside and will be a beast if he makes it a few years. Sorry for the poor quality photo / vid....I might have been shaking a little 66155291593__403CD446-497F-4295-82ED-68BA17690423 (1).MOV
  12. That was my line of thinking. Recognizing pictures can be deceiving, my first thought was "thick, mature buck". My dad said he studied him for a good big and just didn't think he was a shooter. I feel like he missed the mark on this one. And yes, low fence. Same same! This is a point of debate with my dad. He said on the hoof, he was guessing 17-18" maximum. I said hell no....and honestly, can't figure out how he got to those numbers. Recognizing potential distortion...I just started analyzing the feeder. TDIL that 55 gallon steel drums are 23" in diameter. Now...take another look at that deer (and note the fact that he's actually standing ever so slightly behind it).
  13. Dad saw this one come in checking for the Big P. Image quality sucks (old iphone & 150 yds away), but curious to get Surly's estimates on size of this deer.
  14. Weather is making its way through. Anybody else itching to get back in the field?
  15. More like we tossed out the old flour that had weevils in it, and replacing it with some organic superfood that's power fuel for the body.
  16. I don’t see much similarity there, honestly. New buck has more of a basket, with better tine length on G2 and his G4s are more “claw” style than vertical. All tines come back to center moreso than the previous buck also. I feel like the new guy is a different gene pool…one which I actually prefer. Really good looking frame.
  17. Humblebrag - I privately guessed 140-145. I bet he looked amazing on the hoof. I hope to slay his father this weekend. Let the December rut begin...
  18. All this CFS talk is for the poors. This is Texas. Let's get these boys some fried short ribs at Jack Allens!
  19. No wonder my house design is taking forever.... it's hunting season. I should've known better. Gorgeous rack on that one. Turned out very nice.
  20. So, a black dildo (no racist) that's only 7"?
  21. "Can't comment right now, chewing on a dick at the moment..."
  22. Might consider a 300 BLK. I rebuilt my Rem 7 223 in 300 BLK and it's amazing. Low recoil with a bit more energy on impact. Seems a good option for the kids. I was a bit small when I started hunting. I used a 218Bee. Anybody ever shot one of those? Can't really find them around much anymore.
  23. Our family owns land that borders Eastman's property, which as I understand it, is bow hunt only. Ours is not restricted.
  24. Great evening in the Tally Bottoms off of the Sabine River in NE Texas. No shots fired, but enjoyed watching this young man grunt and chase a few ladies around. Rut is in full effect….hoping this one makes it 3 more years.
