  1. Every time I go to HEB when it is chili weather, they are sold out of at least one kind of pepper. I swung by that exact El Rancho yesterday and they had huge bags of them.
  2. I made a pot yesterday based on the 2nd SA chili queens recipe posted on page 1 of this thread with a few modifications 2 lb beef chuck (cubed ~ 1/2")1&1/3 lb ground beef8 dried guajillo peppers8 dried ancho peppers3/4 t gebhart’s chili powder 3/4 t ancho chili powder6 cloves garlic 1 medium sweet onion 1 t Mexican oregano2 T cumin seeds2 t paprika1 T salt 1 t black pepper 8 c water3 T extra virgin olive oil i added the chili powder after an hour or two of simmering because it needed more flavor. It was very mild, which was perfect for my daughters. My wife and I stirred in cayenne to taste to make ours spicy. awesome recipe, it was probably the best pot I have ever made!
  3. My brother’s wife’s parents both got it at the end of December. Her dad beat it pretty quickly but her mom went into the ICU and was there for ~4 weeks before passing away. While this was happening, my niece got it and quickly recovered, but not before giving it to her parents. My sister-in-law has been really sick for at least 10 days, including the day her mom passed, and she just made it to 2 days fever free. My brother is on day 7 or 8 and has had high fevers at night, but his breathing is good and his cough isn’t too bad. I hope he turns the corner soon. His symptoms have not been not as bad so far.
  4. I got dose 2 of Moderna about this time yesterday at HEB. Tired and very sore arm last night. Very fatigued, low grade fever (99.5), and general just not feeling great today. I am working and it is manageable with OTCs. Of the 4 of us who got dose 2 yesterday, 1 called in sick and the other 3 of us are not feeling 100%, but not absolutely horrible either. I will be happy to get in bed to sleep tonight. it feels awesome to have both doses done!
  5. It was a good day when my 15 year old self found the video tape “A Taste of Erica” stashed away in my older brother’s room after he left for college.
  6. I get dose 2 in a couple days and I am thinking of donating blood a few weeks after that for the free antibody test.
  7. What is messed up is our pharmacy is owned by the same group as one of the big two chains. We got an email saying we have a corporate goal of 80% vaccinated-let us know when you get it. There was no help locating it and we could not schedule through our corporate partner. We could easily have been streamlined with them and we are all 1A so it isn’t like we would be line jumping. Instead we were mucking up the internet and phone scheduling systems with everyone else, adding to the clusterfuck. This whole process has been so frustrating.
  8. I work the next day and we don’t have enough pharmacist coverage for me to plan to take off. The good news is if I have a fever, our protocol is for me to take a sick day and they have to deal with it. There are 4 of us getting shot 2 on Thursday (me the RPh and 3 techs) and our whole workflow will be fucked if 2 or more of us have to be off. It will be interesting. I might just have to load up on Tylenol and Advil and push through.
  9. Checking in. Got Moderna through HEB. 2nd dose on Thursday. Group 1A (pharmacist). Gonna be awesome to have both.
  10. my wife and I are doing the PZP challenge, too. This is our second one. I love having my weekly rides planned for me, though I am tiring of Wilpers’ music selections. I also like the endurance rides. Prior to doing these, I was having a hard time backing off and not going for a PR every ride. My old ass body can’t handle it anymore and I feel I am doing better with their plan. My FTP went up by ~10 pts after the previous 6 week challenge in the fall.
  11. 2 coworkers both felt terrible for a day or two after their second Moderna shot over last weekend. 4 more of us are getting shot 2 next week. I am not looking forward to the side effects, but I can’t wait to be on the other side of getting both doses.
  12. One argument for administration of second doses on schedule is to remove those folks from the pool of people trying to get a shot. The roll-out of this thing has been fucked, and I know, being someone in between the two doses, that I will not stop hunting until I get the second dose. Until the second dose is administered, the pool of people trying to make appointments just keeps increasing. Having a growing group of people no longer trying will help open things up as supply (hopefully) increases. Besides, when I got the first dose, I was told there would be a second dose for me. Changing the rules decreases confidence and we can hardy afford more of that in our current situation.
  13. Also, none of my 3 coworkers got the scheduling link you need to make the appointment that they should have gotten automatically. If I hadn’t told them there were appointments, they would not have been notified.
  14. I just made my appointment with H‑E‑B for my second shot. If anyone else got their first shot there and hasn’t gotten a text with a link for scheduling the second appt, call them and have them send it to you. I never received it and some coworkers of mine were unsubscribed from their alert system for no reason. After I got the link on Friday, I have been clicking it nonstop until some appointments opened up for next week just a few minutes ago. I will get shot 2 on day 30, close enough. It feels good to have it scheduled.
  15. Good find. She ain’t fucking around on this one either:
  16. That is a great show. I bought the Terrapin limited cds when they came out so it is one of the shows I have been listening to the longest. As for Dylan tunes, I really like the Tom Thumb’s on this. Their covers are hit and miss for me. Of the one’s bob does, I like Queen Jane and love Masterpiece, but usually skip the rest. I don’t think there is a Jerry Dylan cover that I don’t enjoy (Quinn, Baby Blue, I takes a lot to laugh, tangled up in blue). Lately I have really gotten into the Visions of Johanna from the 30 Trips release. It is from 95, sounds like the Dead I saw live, and is tight as hell. Jerry’s voice even sounds pretty good. I think I read somewhere that Dylan was a fan of Jerry’s interpretations of his songs.
  17. A couple coworkers of mine are getting their second dose through H‑E‑B tomorrow (Riverside). I am not due until 2/2 at 183&Springdale. A pharmacy tech I used to work with who works at Riverside has been updating us. His info has been good so far and he says they (Austin area stores) have allocations for the second doses and everyone who got a first dose should have one available. I will be nervous until the second shot is in my arm, but it is H‑E‑B and they are pretty trustworthy (when open).
  18. Maybe I misspoke. Twice in about 5 days she was able to book an appointment. She has been pretty vigilant and had been shut out in Travis County at every possible location. In comparison, Bell County seems to have more availability. Keep checking. I think their portal opened up late afternoon to early evening both times she got through.
  19. For those in groups 1A and 1B looking for a shot, check Bell County. My wife got her 1st shot tonight (Pfizer) and said the process was well organized and quick. There is no residency requirement. She successfully booked a shot for next week, then more opened up and she moved it up. They seem to have a lot of availability. She is a school librarian at a school with one of the highest % of low SES kids. She has to teach in person, and due to her position, has classes with every in-person kid in the school every week. It has been nerve-racking for her. In almost every other state, teachers are 1B per the CDC recommendation. In Texas, they were reclassified. While they are essential, they are not essential enough. She qualified as 1B because she has an autoimmune condition that puts her at increased risk according to her rheumatologist. I got my first dose (Moderna) 2 weeks ago at H‑E‑B. It feels great to breathe a little and will be even better once we both get our 2nd dose.
  20. Can’t ever root for OSU. After the game in 2005, I had one guy run by and punch me in the face (shitty punch, glanced off and didn’t leave a mark). Then as I walked by myself to meet up with my ride, I kept my hands in my pockets as multiple assholes got in my face trying to get me to fight them. Fuck them. I hope they never win it all again. I never thought the Tech crowd after the game in 98 would be topped for worst fan experience, but I was very wrong.
  21. Nice find. There is also a playlist with the complete Road Trips series (minus the bonus discs). It is weird, since none of those show up amongst the albums. Merry Christmas!!!
  22. The way I now relate to the dad rivals how I related to the kids when I was younger. I stay up every Christmas Eve wrapping presents and drinking whiskey while watching. Brilliant movie. It has never not worked for me at any stage of my life. CSB: Both my mom and her parents grew up in the same town (Hammond, Indiana) as Jean Shepherd. Her parents went to high school with him and my aunt was good friends with one of his nephews growing up. She always said this movie nails the feel of her neighborhood growing up. Now that she has been gone a while, watching this really helps me feel close to her when I am missing her the most.
  23. Agreed. A pharmacist colleague of mine who runs vaccination clinics says he is waiting 6 months before deciding. He says most of the MDs he works with are doing the same. The relatively small sample size and compressed time frame make it tough to establish safety. I am pretty sure I am going to get it, but I am nervous. I don’t begrudge anyone who wants to wait.
  24. I need to check out that 2/23/74 show. The following night has been a favorite of mine since the tape trading days.
