So what's the end game for Amazon if their retail side needs to be subsidized by their other revenues?  Are they just trying to take over the retail world and then one day will flip the switch on prime costs and we have no choice but to pay?

Has anybody been in the Amazon bookstore in Austin (or elsewhere) enough to judge the popularity? Seems like if Amazon is going to stock it with mainly their4-star products, they would do well.

"Speaker Paul Ryan, one of just four other Republicans to attend last week’s Justice Department briefing on the matter, has not addressed the substance of Gowdy’s assertions. But asked whether he backed them, Ryan’s office issued a broad statement of support for the House Oversight Committee chairman.

“The speaker has full confidence in Chairman Gowdy’s judgement, and is grateful for his leadership and service,” Ryan spokeswoman AshLee Strong said Friday."

Where does that leave Ryan in the eyes of Trumpaloons ?  There is far, far too little spotlight being shined on Ryan and McConnell.  In their leadership roles, they are getting away with virtual anonymity in the face of brazen corruption and abuse, and a degree of daily lying from the WH that is objectively divorced from plain reality.  Ultimately I think it shows Ryan and McConnell are accessory to the Trump way.

Ryan (and McConnell) are trying to play both sides.  They are trying to perhaps protect their positions (well Ryan has given up) or the GOP in the short term, and are willing to piss it away in the long term.

If you are a teen or 20-something, you’re going to be extremely turned off by The Party of Trump.

Like look at what happens to a Republican that goes against the dear leader, Flake and McCain are now hated by both parties.  Gowdy is currently getting blackballed.

If Paul Ryan or Mitch McConnell actually stood up to Trump, would anyone give them praise? The Trumpkins would lable them traitors and the democrats would bash them for taking too long and “muh voting record!”

There’s absolutely nothing to gain politically for a Republican to go against Trump.  It’s a hostage situation.

So if you go against Trump, Republicans attack you.  Sounds like the Party of Trump

Ryan and McConnell have the power to put him in check   They choose not to, and actively make sure certain legislation that’s not Trump-friendly never hits the floor.  They allow people like Nunes to actively aid Trump. They are conceding Congressional power/oversight to Trump.

They let Trump get away with stuff that they would not have let Obama do.

Its so fucking embarrassing to mention that I was once a Republican, because too many associate Trump with the GOP.

    The GOP is Trump.

I think the situation is more like the GOP is being held hostage by Trump than they are really behind him.

The GOP leadership shit all over Obama for things that they defend Trump over, but Trump takes it up by a factor of ten.

Not all Trump supporters are Republicans and not all Republicans are Trump supporters.

I feel like Trumpkin is good shorthand for Trump supporter without alienating conservatives.

I’ll try to refrain from the Trumpkin term going forward and just call them Aggies.

Republican leaders are supporting (and defending) Trump, both with opinions, and with actions.  The GOP deserves to be fully tied to Trump.

Conservatives are a different story.  But until the GOP party (and Congressional) leadership holds Trump accountable for his stupid shit, they deserve to be labeled as the Party of Trump.

    A couple quick things.

    1) I’m not a “Trumplican”.  I don’t support everything he or his party do. Not even close to it.

    2) “Trumplican” might be even worse than “libtard”. When you use it, it looks juvenile and signals a lack of intelligence. You’d do best to polish up your language if you want to be taken seriously. Maybe not on the internet, but in the real world.

Be careful out there, Trump is watching you everywhere.

It’s fun to toss out “trumpkin” or “trumpanzee” or whatever to trigger people.  Even I do it, but more of a half-assed effort to try and separate them from the more rational Republicans

But honestly, we just need to call them Republicans. At this point, the GOP deserves every bit of responsibility for Trump’s bullshit that we put off on Trump and his biggest supporters.

Until they start trying to hold Trump accountable, the GOP is 100% Trump.

  7. Just wanted to see who the parents of young kids were in the thread.

The first actress to play Caillou will hopefully escape the trade war with Canada alive and make her way to the US

The thing I noticed (or interpreted, anyway) is that Thanos doesn't seem to be evil just for the sake of being evil like a lot of villains. He truly believes what he is doing is for the good of the universe.

My first thought on part 2 is that he misses Gamora too much and uses the time stone to go back to before she is traded for the soul stone. But, I guess Dr. Strange has it figured out.

As much as they beat us over the head with Strange saying he was unwilling to give up the stone for Tony/etc. and then easily giving it up, and then his comment about this being the endgame, a lot of people really missed the importance of Strange’s actions and comments.

Well to be fair there has never been a character more in need of an ass-kicking than Caillou.

You know Caillou is dead right?  Cancer (hence the bald head).  That’s why clouds surround most of the scenes and why his grandma is narrating most of it

The whole cartoon is his grandma telling his little sister about things he did when he was alive.  His little sister was only like 3 when he died.

Messing with the EU is only a step removed from messing with NATO. Messing with NATO -- even by proxy via a trade war -- won't sit well with our generals, and this is the scenario that could lead to a military coup.

I was told this by a high-level big-city journalist who used to be on the Pentagon beat for a major paper up there, and he told me all this when the idea that Trump could actually win seemed laughable.

And when I first started throwing the phrase "military coup" around on the old board, I was mocked and dismissed. But since then, you've started hearing it all over the place. Just fucking Google it -- there are too many links out there for me to list.

    There won’t be a coup.

The Russian investigation stuff will be fully protected by Congress though, and everybody knows it.

Is he going to do something with that opinion?  Or just continue letting the Dotard run around with a wrecking ball?

The lobbyists are going to be doing something.

I am actually surprised Trump didn’t wait until after the midterms.   There are going to be some Rs in Congress who might have been friendly towards Trump, who are going to truly turn on Trump.

The dorks over at /r/the_donald are geeking out over this announcement about how we're finally getting revenge on those EU cucks.

Remind me again, when did all of our allies suddenly become our enemies?

    When Donald took office.

Whole lot of Trumpkins will be howling before this is over. Not a lot of motivation to turn out for the midterms, at least to vote R.

I completely agree.  It's not "normal".  It just doesn't mean that such a person would likely be diagnosed as psychotic, schizophrenic, or even depressed or bipolar.  White, male, and angry seem to be the most common characteristics, and until we lump "angry" in with "mental illness" we should be careful with language and policy.

Most people get angry everyday, and don't kill anybody, up to and including the source of their anger.  Mack Brown was able to walk freely around Campus after 5-7.

Let me ask you this: If you have somebody who has come into contact with the mental health system, and the professionals have said "this person is a danger to themselves or others", do you really have a problem with restricting their use or acquisition of firearms?

  16. 3 minutes ago, jimmyjazz said:

I'm gonna say this one more time for now, because you seem unwilling to go do your homework:  "sane people do not shoot up schools" is a complete red herring.  "Insane" means something.  Stop with the convenient broad brush.

And I'll say this one more time, because you seem unwilling to study the history of these shootings: too many of these shooters were in touch with the mental health system, were known to have set off red flags, and had far too easy access to firearms.

The guy who shot up the movie theater in Colorado?  Had school mental health professionals who felt he was homicidal, and even told the police.  He still acquired firearms legally after that.  Virginia Tech shooter?  Same thing - mental health issues, had contact with mental health professionals who thought he was dangerous.  18 months before he killed 32 students/teachers, he was detained in a mental health facility.    He legally bought his firearms well after that.

Hell, the Parkland guy is the very poster child of this crap - just like the others, he legally purchased a firearm well after he had been in contact with the mental health system, and had mental health professionals saying he was dangerous.

These people should not have been able to acquire firearms.    They gave off plenty of warning signs to actual mental health professionals.
