  1. It’s 2025, not 1987. They have drones that can cover the entire Strait. Oil tankers are massive, slow, and unwieldy and make fantastic targets, Iran doesn’t have to occupy islands if they can hit every tanker going through. Ukraine out front should have told you that.
  2. Department of Homeland Security put this out after the bombings National Terrorism Advisory System Bulletin - June 22, 2025 | Homeland Security Both hacktivists and Iranian government-affiliated actors routinely target poorly secured US networks and Internet-connected devices for disruptive cyber attacks. US law enforcement has disrupted multiple potentially lethal Iranian-backed plots in the United States since 2020. During this timeframe, the Iranian government has also unsuccessfully targeted critics of its regime who are based in the Homeland for lethal attack. If Iranian leadership were to issue a religious ruling calling for retaliatory violence against specific targets in the Homeland, it could increase the likelihood that a supporter of the Iranian regime is inspired to commit an act of violence in the Homeland. Since the start of the conflict, we have seen media releases by foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs)— including HAMAS, Lebanese Hizballah, the Houthis, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, among others—some of which have called for violence against US assets and personnel in the Middle East because of Israel’s attack. The conflict could also motivate violent extremists and hate crime perpetrators seeking to attack targets perceived to be Jewish, pro-Israel, or linked to the US government or military in the Homeland. ----- Man, if we get some Iranian-backed terrorism here in the US, pop some popcorn and watch the finger-pointing begin.
  3. The non-Southern Baptists don't necessarily care because they weren't lobbying hard for this and they aren't happy either way. The Southern Baptists, the types that kicked Beth Moore to the curb, may not openly say it, but they don't care for the Catholics, and I'm not just mentioning the Catholic angle by the way, - I'm throwing in that the Muslims, Mormons, etc., are liable to get stuff put in the classrooms.
  4. So does Patrick go after Abbott now in next year's election, or run somebody against him in the primary? This is massively humiliating for him. I'm shocked, but happy - I have friends who benefit from this stuff.
  5. The fact that Trump started talking about regime change makes me think we didn't hit much in the way of their nuclear program. He's absolutely priming the pump for something potentially beyond the bombings, and I've actually been seeing various arguments break out among the right about whether or not they want us in an extended war with Iran. Hell, a bunch of the right-wing radio/podcaster types are arguing against war with Iran and bitching that Trump campaigned against that, and they are being called "woke" and RINOs by the MAGA faithful. I have to think Trump isn't dumb enough to actually try and do anything more and get regime change going, because it's clear a fuckload of people on the right don't want it (and the racist ones are bitching that a war with Iran will lead to more Middle Easterners flooding the US). But on the other hand, he threw it out there, unprompted, and seems irritated that people around him disagree with the concept of regime change. And Trump is coming out publicly and saying he's going to primary Republicans in Congress who don't support him on fighting Iran. I don't know if he does that if he planned on limiting the bombings to those three sites. And with it coming out that we might not have hit everything, he's going to be embarrassed and looking to do something. Edit: I know he sent Cruz and Rubio and Graham out there to champion a fight with Iran, but even they weren't going so far as to talk about regime change in a positive "let's go kick the leadership out of Tehran" light. Edit #2: Next year, there are mid-terms. Congressional Republicans don't want a protracted war with Iran, and they will be thinking about it. They don't want American sailors dying to protect Saudi oil or the price of gas going up a few bucks. On the other hand, Trump threatened to primary Republicans who oppose him, so shit's going to get real.
  6. Tesla is charging a $4.20 flat fee for rides.
  7. Trump is going to primary Republicans who opposed him on Iran. https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114728311939211877 This is wild and makes me think he’s going to try regime change if he’s bringing up the embassy takeover and bitching about Iran killing Americans in the past. And his earlier comment about regime change - if you’re the Iranian leadership and think he’s serious, you have nothing to lose by shutting down the Strait and doing some thing on a large scale against us.
  8. It still surprises people, particularly the Southern Baptists in the family. They all assume out governor is one of them. They’d be surprised if they looked up his wife. They think it’ll work out fine for them. Texas is soft-banning porn and forcing religion down on our throats, but personal freedoms and all that..
  9. Up on HBOMax streaming.
  10. I was hoping this was fake.
  11. Surly Remindme! [18 years] “to ask captainant for photos of his daughter” I will be messaging you in 6 years on Monday, June 22, 2043 at 10:49:47 UTC to remind you to ask captainant for photos of his daughter and I will send you a PM to also be reminded and to reduce spam.
  12. If Iran is a “hot air balloon” I would think Israeli intelligence would have known that, and therefore there would be no need for the US and Israel to go to war with Iran.
  13. He and Israel (“damaged not destroyed”) are messing with Trump, who will take the bait.
  14. It would conflict with coveting thy neighbor’s wife.
  15. These same people claim the government can’t educate kids and so they need to be sent to private schools instead, but now they claim the government should teach the most important topic of all. I’ve had a few people I know cheering this on, and then I gently remind them that our Governor is a Catholic, and Catholics are the largest group in the state, and to be careful if they want more religion in the classrooms unless they like the new Pope.
  16. One of my wife’s friends who teaches first grade is already prepared to tell her kids to ask mommy and daddy what adultery is, and what coveting thy neighbor’s wife is if the kids ask. Gonna be some great conversations to be had at home. Probably be a lot of teachers printing out a small copy and putting it with the bullshit on the walls that kids don’t pay attention to.
  17. Our foreign policy is not focused on what Iran can or can't do, it's focused on one thing And no, I don't know why Dave Chappelle is the focus of our foreign policy, but whatever.
  18. I am concerned as well that the ease with which the Israelis did their thing is leading people to dream big, up to and including regime change. I don’t know how old you are, I’m assuming you’re in your 40s or 50s like most of Surly, but I also remember them fucking with oil shipments in the Persian Gulf in the 80s and the West having to escort oil tankers. Now they have drones that are extremely efficient and effective and could fuck with shipping like nobody’s business. They can make this painful for us, and they can force us to use US Navy ships to protect oil shipped from Arab countries, and those Navy ships would be operating in a small area, escorting slow ships. And if they try and shut down the Strait, we have to get involved.
  19. They very well could be taking their cues from FNC and seeing what sells or what gets viewership up. I would be okay with the strikes if actual evidence was produced stating that "in the past month or three, Iran sped it up, and they are weeks away from nuclear-tipped missiles". I would also be slightly more okay with it if it hadn't come literally on the heels of Netanyahu nearly losing his power, and desperately needing to rally the Israeli people behind him. But this is Iraq in 2002/2003 all over again. And we were preparing for Iraq in late 2002 before it had hit the public conscious - I had friends who were prepping equipment/vehicles/etc. in late 2002 for someplace "other than Afghanistan", long before the administration started pushing things.
  20. If I'm Israeli intelligence, and I have some additional targets I want bombed, I might start saying "well, you damaged it, so maybe it should be hit again, and by the way, there's these other areas where they might have moved some of their materials too, so if you really want to wipe everything out like your President claimed, then you need to hit these targets as well". Trump went out there and told us how magnificent the strikes were, and if Israeli intelligence embarrasses him by saying it wasn't destroyed, he's going to feel like we have to finish the job to live up to what he boasted about.
  21. It drives me crazy that people I know, who do not watch Fox News, are all of the sudden buying what Fox News started selling early last week. Fox News was opposed to us going to war in Iran, until management decided/were told, and then they started selling us on going to war in Iran, even though nothing had changed in Iran in recent times in terms of things that concern us. It's problematic that in this day and age, people are this easily swayed.
