  1. It could be an entire new thread, but it shows just how important it was for France and Great Britain to never let Germany invade the Low Countries and then France. Those extra few hundred miles mattered in a number of ways—especially when the V1 and V2’s came along. They killed a lot of civilians. The colossal failures of France and Great Britain during the mid 30’s came home to roost—again. They shouldn’t have ignored or rejected my avatar’s warnings. Thank goodness there was the channel.
  2. It’s already apparent how dangerous the daytime missions were, but in the coming episodes I’m guessing it will be even worse. Until we were able to deploy long range fighter escorts, some missions in 1943 lost 1/4 of the B17s. I find a lot of conflicting data online and one site said that without fighter escorts it was virtually impossible for one crew to survive the allotted 25 missions. I like how they addressed early on the two philosophies of the RAF and the US on night vs daytime bombing.
  3. Pot pie from left over roasted chicken and store bought frozen puff pastry. Didn’t suck.
  4. Some great stories and results in this thread. Keep it up guys.
  5. On a related note, I’ve been enjoying Golda on one of the cable networks. It’s about the Yom Kippur war. She was awesome. Russia (still causing trouble. . .) added a different dynamic in the early 70’s, which explains Israel’s reluctance to kick ass and take names. At least peace eventually was made with one Arab nation.
  6. Yep, most of them smoked. My parents were Korean War era and they and their friends all smoked. My mother didn’t quit until the late 60’s when it was becoming widely accepted that it was terrible for you.
  7. The 71 bypass around Columbus was finished my sophomore year at UT so after that I would never detour through old 71 and stop at Schobel’s. Before the bypass I hit it quite often.

    Getting old sucks

On getting shingles if you’ve never had CP, it’s possible to get it from someone who has shingles if you come in contact with their open rash. It’s probably a long shot, but it can happen.

    Getting old sucks

How old are you? I got chicken pox when I was very young like most people in their late 50’s and 60’s. I don’t remember getting CP. Until the vaccine came out, I think damn near all children got CP. My daughters got it very early and I’m sure they don’t remember it. They are 32 and 29.
  10. It didn’t stop Churchill. He flew in a B-24 (also not pressurized like the B-17) during the war and had his oxygen mask modified so that he could smoke his cigars during his long flights.
  11. Of course. Not saying it didn’t happen or that it’s poor writing. Just odd that it ended up that way.
  12. I’m liking it so far. But the bombing missions seem to be monotonous compared to ground combat. I’m wondering how they will keep it interesting. And Bucky seems to be more of an asshole each minute. And his best friend really is nicknamed Buck? Also hard to believe the puking navigator has lasted this long. He’s a disaster waiting to happen.
  13. Not sure if it’s the right thread, but I’m shooting sporting clays this afternoon. I used to shoot fairly often but I haven’t bird hunted in about 7 years and I have shot sporting clays in probably 15 years. I’ll be shooting my 20 gauge Baretta O/U. What chokes are recommended? I have F, M, IM, IC, and Sk choke tubes. I have no idea of the types of stations at this place.
  14. I probably would too, but it seems that most death row inmates argue for life without parole as their sentence approaches. So, back my first post, because it’s such a rare occurrence, I’d be in favor of giving the convicted murderer the choice. They can either accept life without parole or a quick DP. I’d be interested in seeing how many choose the DP.
  15. The DP should be extremely rare. And it is. The US, with 350,000,000 people, is averaging just over 22 executions per year for the last 10 years and the trend is down. But do people really think that Timothy McVeigh should not have been executed?
  16. Damn, my wife, somehow, has been living a double life.
  17. I too got mine mainly for fitness. I love it. The BPM function is spotty but everything else is very accurate and reliable.
  18. Len Dawson quit smoking at some point. Not sure when. He made it to his late 80’s. Quitting even after a decade plus long smoking habit can help tremendously. My parents smoked heavily for 15+ years. My father quit in his mid 30’s and lived to 91 and my mother is still alive at 87.
  19. My doctor friends tell me that smoking and being extremely overweight are absolute killers. Worst things you can do/be. There are some exceptions, but you don’t see very many old obese people or old life time smokers.
