  1. I’ve witnessed Warren enchant entire rooms of people, in person. Reading a room is not a weakness. But she’s also not going to start catering to the lowest common denominator. So if appealing to the grouchy toddlers that are the American voting public is the standard, yeah she’s probably not going to get a room full of them chanting inane shit.
  2. That one is by far my least favorite of the three way options you listed in your post.
  3. That might make you feel good for a few minutes. But then it would dawn on you that our last shreds of hope just outed themselves for a performative stunt. We’re well past the point of showy, high-minded resignations having any positive impact. Better to have decent people remain in place to prevent catastrophe when it approaches.
  4. That’s the problem.
  5. At least he wasn’t out of focus.
  6. It’s solipsism and laziness. Your personal experience is all that matters. As long as you’re doing okay, it’s not worth the energy to look around and see what’s happening to other people. It’s much easier to dismiss them as whiners or freeloaders, and to show your Sophisticated Political Cynicism by shrewdly observing that both sides are the same.
  7. Dems have managed to fall into a position where every minor annoyance is their fault. Cracker Barrel’s new logo sucks? Democrats. There are too many non-whites on TV commercials? Democrats. Starbucks didn’t wish me a Merry Christmas last October? Democrats. They ruined our beloved green M&M gooner bait? Democrats. It’s amazing. Every single pop culture development that annoys the dingdongs on the right gets attributed to the Dems or “woke.” It’s the old “Thanks, Obama” meme writ large.
  8. “HEPATITAS.”
  9. My parents’ neighbor is a farmer. He’s pretty loaded, owns a boat, travels a lot, etc. And he doesn’t live on the farm: instead, they own a big house with a pool in a nearby city. It’s very different from my old man’s childhood as the son of a dirt poor sharecropper on a small farm.
  10. The thing is: it’s working. Smart centrists are parroting the inane #bothsides party line. Which of course is a gateway to fascism. Run of the mill centrists don’t want to seem unreasonable, they’re usually too lazy to dig into the facts, and they aren’t willing to stick their necks out and get pwned by some uber-prepared Gish galloping liar. So they take whatever position falls in the middle of the two poles. Because the Right now resides in straight-up fascist land and the establishment Left is clinging to the spectral territory centrist Republicans owned in the 70s, these reasonable, agreeable types end up defaulting to a position well into rightwing territory. All because they’re lazy and afraid of appearing biased. So to maintain their sense of self as an Inoffensive Centrist, they allow fascists to drag them away from logic, facts, and empathy. Lazy, cowardly fucks.
  11. I’ll take “Things Only White Folks Say” for $800, Alex.
  12. “Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.”
  13. I’m confused about the rapture. Is the idea that all the churchy types get Hoovered up into space paradise, leaving the rest of us poor schmucks to suffer the agony of a life devoid of the most judgmental, sanctimonious, and annoying motherfuckers among us?
  14. Huh. The Covid vax usually knocks me on my ass with aches, fatigue, and chills for 24 hours. This year was much milder.
  15. “As the seasons change, the refueling continues.”
  16. That describes literally every right wing media outlet.
  17. Dang. The Undertaker has dropped a lot of weight.
  18. Sark. Is. Dumb. There’s no other explanation. He repeatedly makes the same stupid decisions with the same poor result. Anyone with even three functional neurons would have adjusted by now. But not our head coach.
  19. All ass, no breaks.
