  1. 81 with a pleasant breeze at lunchtime in Houston today. I am quite gruntled with this development.
  2. Gary Larson did it better.
  3. One place that is actually opening soon though is Pho Fix, a Vietnamese cafe in Stomping Grounds. They just posted that their grand opening is next Saturday, 6/3.
  4. Hah. Drove by this morning on way home from the Y. Construction crews still there working. Last time I took a peak inside, the interior still needed a lot of work. Can't imagine they'll be open before end of Summer. Looks like they're actually doing a BBQ pop-up on Sunday and serving drinks out on their patio. First thing they've posted on their account in a long time. https://www.instagram.com/p/Csl9gTeJxNd/
  5. Heading down to Bolivar alongside probably 50+ hometown friends for Memorial Day weekend, as we've done pretty much every year for the past 25+ years. Stick to the quieter neighborhoods and away from the crowded sections of the beach or bars where all the SETX trash converges and you're typically fine. We usually stake out a quiet section of the beach, far away from the jacked-up trucks and tattooed trailer trash. All that said, despite having been to Crystal Beach probably 100+ times in my life and knowing plenty of folks that have houses down there, I don't know a soul that would purposely go down there for "Go Topless" Jeep Weekend. On a regular weekend, there's a healthy mix of normal folks and heathens. On GTJW, it's 95% the latter.
  6. CVX is really cornering the market in the DJ Basin. This gives them another 275K acres in Colorado on top of what they acquired when they bought Noble.
  7. Just took a quick look at the RRC website. Only thing within a few miles of Navarro Mills Lake is a bunch of dry holes. Most of the activity in Navarro has been SE of Corsicana, near the reservoirs, and that's mainly old shit, most of which has been plugged. Less than 20 drilling permits issued in Navarro Co. in the past 5 years, and not a single one since June 2022.
  8. Thermometer in my truck registered 94 on the drive home from work both Thursday and Friday. Nice little cool front rolled in overnight, high of only 79 today in Houston. Probably the last Sunday like this for 4-5 months, so enjoy it while it lasts.
  9. Seen a lot speculation that they'll "skip" June and then raise another 25 in September.
  10. Is that a full 3.5 net mineral acres? That's about $23K/NMA if so, which seems pretty hefty (without knowing typical prices). Know any landmen or people that work in mineral buying? Probably worth having someone look into it (typical offers for the area, permitting activity and production levels from nearby wells....etc.) unless of course they have no interest in selling whatsoever. From a cursory search of the area, looks like it's almost all Austin Chalk gas wells. One thing to consider is that (shitty nat gas prices aside), those AC gas units can produce at a pretty solid clip for decades.
  11. Lotta smoke out there that Fed is no longer done hiking this year: Atlanta Fed GDPNow tracker is currently at 2.9% for Q2. Jobless claims have seen no real uptick in the past 2 months despite the banking crisis and continued layoff announcements. Finally, Fed watchers are expecting a significant upgrade to the economic forecast for 2023 in next month's release.
  12. Not every place has crazy markups on wine. For example, Port A Vino. Since they're also a wine shop, they price their wines at just a little over retail price. Like maybe $48 for a bottle that would be $39 at the store...etc. The food is good too. Boar bolognese I had last time was damn near perfect. On another note, anyone been to Triola's on Main? I keep meaning to check it out. Almost every single day, there's a new review from someone in the Heights Foodies group on FB that is basically "Finally felt compelled to try Triola's to see what all the hype was about and OMG it really was the best Italian food I've ever eaten!!!!" It's also BYOB with no corkage fee. Definitely gonna try to get a table for next time wife wants to go out somewhere nice.
  13. Starting the week off right.
  14. No real drama for either Montero or Stanek is a very welcome sight.
  15. FYI, there's a really great Metroid-vania indie called Afterimage that came out a few weeks ago. Very solid game, but it sucks on Switch. Load times after a fast travel can take 15-20 seconds, respawn times after a death can sometimes stretch upwards of 45 seconds. Basically becomes unplayable late in the game when you're dying often. Wasn't even thinking when I downloaded for Switch instead of PS5. Shame, b/c it's a really good game.
  16. Just keep taking 2/3.
  17. After last summer, I never thought I'd say this, but that's more than enough rain. We're good for a while here in Houston.
  18. Say huh? Quite a journey LSU -> Auburn -> TXST
  19. So, I follow the "Houston Heights Foodies" group on FB that's actually quite useful for news about restaurant openings and reviews of new places. However, there are lots of simpletons on there that ask extremely broad, dumb questions. "Looking for a good place to eat inside the Beltway that serves alcohol" Oh, that narrows it down! Or the morons in the comments that didn't read the original post. Somebody will be like "Tried (restaurant) on (street) in (neighborhood). Really loved the fajitas and the margaritas were strong but tasty!" In the comments: "Looks good, what restaurant and where is it located?"
  20. Never in doubt.
  21. It is pitch black outside my office at 10:20 am. Houston area bout to get worked.
  22. Some fat, chain-smoking Hawaiian:
  23. Not a single sunny day on the 15-day forecast for Houston. Every day from here thru 5/22 is "scattered thunderstorms" with between a 40% and 60% chance of rain.
  24. Exact same thing happened last year. Buddy of mine had a big crawfish boil the first Saturday in May. After weeks of awesome weather in April, it was low 90's and swampy as hell. Everybody was drenched in sweat.
