  1. Vandy focused episode week of Bama upset was great. They have all been pretty good so far. Great watch leading into football season.
  2. It isn't as bad as I expected it to be based on limited research so far and I actually cashed in on a $4500 high end resort in Cabo the week after the "boost" option was implemented. I had actually hit the cash pay price point perfectly as booked it was more reasonable (~$4000) 6 or so weeks prior (it was refundable and checked weekly and never saw it cheaper). The Chase Portal had it the same as the then current price about 2 weeks out from the trip, but it was available for 2x Points boost so was a no brainer to cancel the cash purchase and use 225K Chase points under the new system. I haven't booked any travel since but have searched a few trips and decent options under the 'boost' program for hotels at least.
  3. Yes, I'm surprised we're ranked #1 playing #2/3 OSU in 2 weeks and people are wasting bandwidth arguing about a former player, but probably shouldn't be.
  4. LOL, this thread might rival any thread in the Cloak Room for worst in history of this site. How the F are people still arguing about Quinn.
  5. Yeah, fuck arresting this piece of shit. You go on a shooting spree and then a car chase putting more people at risk you need to just get taken the F out on the spot.
  6. Yep, my daughter loves it and plays the songs on Alexa frequently when it's not on TV. It's terrible. But catchy.
  7. I've probably been damn near every year since the early 2000's (and back in my 20's and early 30's multiple times per year). Most of my favorite Vegas trips were when I was younger and poor. You could definitely do Vegas on a budget back then. That seems harder now. I've personally noticed a big difference post Covid. I remember my first trip back in 2021 and table game minimums were absurd all down the strip (damn near impossible to find even a $25 minimum). I think they started pushing it then when people had excess spending money (and Vegas had lost a ton during peak Covid) and just decided to see how far they could push it. Just wonder if they might have hit the tipping point (and I don't disagree international travel a big part of the issue as well). Will be interesting to track.
  8. I've seen a lot of the Vegas has gotten too expensive commentary lately and I agree. I visit every February for a work conference (and get reimbursed for expenses) and this past year was the first trip where I had no desire to go back on my own dime anytime soon and still feel that way. When you have a several hundred dollar tab for a handful of people drinking beers (at like $15/miller lite) late night at a side bar or sports bar in the Casino it has jumped the shark. Expensive tabs for nice meals or getting a Cabana/table has always been expected and I never had an issue with, but it's the 2X or 3X increase on seemingly every single thing post-Covid, combined with ever increasing resort fees, higher table minimum, worse odds and fewer table games that make you feel like you are getting taking advantage of every second you are in town. Whenever my next solo trip is I think I'll try downtown to see if any better and just hit the strip for a select dinner or 2 but don't expect to be planning that anytime soon.
  9. This. Watched episode 1 last night. Looking forward to the rest.
  10. I'm guessing slightly behind but probably pretty close. Went to most of the games that would have been bigger sellers, but those we didn't, we definitely made up for some of the Monday night games we got next to nothing so I think all pretty much evened out.
  11. It somewhat depends on seat location. We did better on resales last year with better seats but they are still pretty shitty for weeknight games against opponents without a big fan base. Biggest advice I would have is when you know you can't make a game list for sale sooner rather than later. We tend to suck at this and make decisions day of game or day before game and that costs us. The rare times we both know we are out of town or have a conflict and won't use the tix weeks in advance we get a pretty solid return.
  12. Yeah it definitely kind of ruined me for future family trip all inclusives. I think 3 nights was probably perfect as we would have probably gotten a bit bored staying longer (or found some type of off site excursion), but as far as getting away and relaxing for a few days while eating and drinking well it hit the spot. If you end up booking email hotel in advance to make sure you get a reservation at Cocina de Autor (that is their michelin star restaurant). We ended up booking all our dinners in advance but at least when we were there that was the only one I think could have been tough to get at a good time if we waited until we showed up.
  13. Bump. Heading down south next week. Anyone been this summer? Anything new or no longer worth it? Daddy's was a favorite many years back but went for dinner once last year and it was pretty terrible so that is off the list. Viva definitely still on my list.
  14. Did Grand Velas Boutique (adults only) with the wife 3 nights over the 4th. Pricy but amazing. Michelin star restaurant included in all inclusive (most restaurants are at main Grand Velas property short walk down the street/beach). Fantastic food/drink and never any issues with plenty of lounge chairs and servers at the pool.
  15. Interesting article. This goes back to my primary question (I never came back to repost in a more concise manner) which is, if, hypothetically, a Collective has $10MM cash on hand tagged for football (via combination of recurring monthly donations + larger individual donations), how is that money allocated by the Collective post settlement considering it can no longer be used to subsidize non-profit appearance fee contracts, etc. Seems like per the reddit post above + this article this is still very much TBD?
  16. Shocking to see 2 of the biggest problem posters on this topic immediately object.
  17. Instead of consolidating or assigning posters to one forum, maybe there should be a new rep icon that just says "Fuck Off, Cloak Room" so those scrolling through CR post after CR post can remind someone, without further clogging up the thread, that there is an entire forum available to post about your political feelings.
  18. The message I received was equally as blunt about how this will play out. I get the sense that for my buddy and other dad's with surviving daughters the mindset is going back and forth between incredible sense of relief/feeling lucky and disbelief/anger at the level of negligence involved at all levels including the camp itself.
  19. Based on numbers sent to me that had to be increased significantly based on current camp tuition rates. I'm sure the full numbers will probably come out over time.
  20. One of my best friend's daughter was at the camp when this happened and is safe and I've talked to him about it this week. His wife went to camp there, was a counselor etc. as were other family members. They are also close to the family. But from what I gather the dad's that are not as attached emotionally to the camp and able to look at this a little more objectively are pretty incensed at the situation and don't think it's going to go well once litigators dive into all of this. He sent me a breakdown of projected revenue based on what they pay + number of camps and sessions, etc. There was certainly plenty of profit available to improve safety and risk management and there is certainly a view in hindsight that it was lacking. I'll probably hear more once we're able to grab a beer and discuss in more detail, but just throwing out there to say that criticism started to grow is not limited to those of us reading about it all on the internet. There are some very connected people that lost kids or grandkids that I doubt just write this off as a tragedy that couldn't have been prevented.
  21. If that were to be the case then my next question would be what is the role of the Longhorn Foundation going forward.
  22. I think I'm even more curious now between interplay between Texas One Fund and athletic dept and actual role of Texas One Fund and our donations going forward. I'm sure it's all being figured out in real time in some respect, but to the extent Texas One Fund still needs our money, I don't think they have done a very good job of communicating exactly what our funds will be used for post 7/1. Does anyone on this board that initially help set it all up understand how it's going to work going forward? I have a text chain on this exact topic with people wondering why they shouldn't cancel monthly donation in new world.
  23. Just chiming in to say I think this is dead on. Come for the sports talk but then get your fill of entertainment, food/travel, and in particular, news updates (and on the rare occasion in the mood for politics, I knew where to find it). That is what made the site great for a long time. It was an incredibly efficient way to catch up current events in between calls. I spend a lot less time here than I used to because the 10% of posters are completely incapable of not letting their strong political feelings infect every thread they participate in and I just log out. My personal view is that social media algorithms have completely broken people's brains on both sides of the aisle and it infects everything. Hell, I feel it personally when I start scrolling my phone (and as a moderate my algorithm manages to make me pissed off at both sides). One idea would be that if you decide to post in the Cloak Room, you are just locked out of DT. But then the problem would be DT would just become Fox "news" over time. I don't think there really is a fix. BTW - this isn't unique to this board. I've used my buddy's OB account for like 15 years from time to time. Similarly, there are lot of experts there that make non-sports threads (investments, etc.) good reads, but they have the opposite problem as that board leans heavy MAGA so you can't stop the MAGA idiots from ruining any off topic thread. It's just a societal problem at this point. Politics has completely overwhelmed certain people to the point that it impacts virtually every single aspect of their life. What's funny is, I know several people like that in real life, but when I manage to see them in person they are largely completely capable of having normal conversations. It's social media algorithms and the internet that have turned everyone insane online in particular.
  24. What's hilarious is Delkus (and I'm usually a big fan) posted something to the effect of "it should be clear tonight" about an hour before this all hit. I checked radar right before I left downtown as I saw some clouds to the north east but looked like nothing so took off then was in the middle of it last couple of miles (and I live close to Royal Oaks and know to avoid that Greenville area when it rains like this). It's been raining off and on ever since and we lost power for about 30 minutes. Not that crazy of a storm or anything but bizarre nobody locally really predicted it and it soaked a big chunk of the metroplex. I don't think anyone really knows what to do with whatever the system is - very atypical pattern.
  25. But how does it work going forward? As I understand the original model, players would be paid to essentially do marketing and/or make public appearances (sign autographs, etc.) for non-profits. So players would be paid for showing up and doing the work, charity benefitted via promotions from athletes, and Texas One Fund donations supported the player contracts for these services. So now that contracts are supposed to be "true" 3rd party/corporate NIL - what do the individual donations support? Is it effectively subsidizing a for profit NIL contract? Or are donations effectively paying salaries for marketing agent's who's job it is to go find NIL deals?
