I'm not sure I agree with above but regardless none are getting drafted in first 3 rounds and they had 4. I'm just saying people can bitch about our current "scheme" and I certainly agree with a lot of it. But we will probably look more like Iowa than Michigan because we aren't good enough up front or at RB. That UM team was loaded with both talent and experience. Give our staff that offensive roster + our defense and nobody stays within 2 TD's . I'm much more concerned about the failures that led us to have such glaring weaknesses from a personnel perspective. How did we get to a point we are playing a true FR project tackle recruit at guard? Just fixing that position makes us significantly better. Why didn't we bring in competition at center and RB? How many WR's are we currently paying more than the 2 portal guys at A&M that are outplaying our entire room? I get that none of what I'm complaining about can be fixed this year and what you are suggesting could actually help us win games. So from that perspective, I do hope we see something like that scheme wise against MSU.

Is this list wrong? 1st round, Pick 10: Quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings 3rd Round, Pick 84: Running back Blake Corum, Los Angeles Rams 3rd Round, Pick 85: Wide receiver Roman Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers 3rd Round, Pick 86: Offensive lineman Zak Zinter, Cleveland Browns 4th Round, Pick 121: Tight end AJ Barner, Seattle Seahawks 5th Round, Pick 173: Offensive lineman Trevor Keegan, Philadelphia Eagles 7th Round, Pick 250: Offensive lineman LaDarius Henderson, Houston Texans 7th Round, Pick 253: Wide receiver Cornelius Johnson, Los Angeles Chargers

The thing is just average OL play a Center LG and "consistently average" QB play and we probably look fine. Our skill players aren't future 1st or 2nd rounders but they are decent. But if we paying any of them like true #1's, they probably need pay cuts next season.

It was 8 NFL draft picks THE NEXT DRAFT. I'm not even counting Loveland (who was drafted the next year and clearly WAY better than anyone on our current offensive roster the season before). This is your comparison dude so you can't claim hypothetical improvements 2 years from now. If you think the Michigan championship team offensive roster and our offensive roster are on the same fucking planet from a personnel perspective, I don't know what to tell you LOL. That's right up there with your infamous Malik is just as good as Quinn hot take.
-
Michigan had 8 players drafted off that offense. It made their 'scheme' a lot easier. I'm not saying a more simplified scheme won't help but it's beyond clear at this point we don't have the personnel to be anything resembling 'good' on offense. Hell, we don't have a RB room that could run 45X per game even if we wanted to. Entire room would be hurt within 3 weeks.

Yep. And I don't expect the Big 10 to continue to be this top heavy (with numerous "scheduled wins" even if you play your F game) but it definitely is this year. According to KFord (who I think does a pretty good job with all his rankings), he has OSU 49th in schedule difficulty this season. They just aren't being challenged and were essentially scheduled a playoff spot. Texas is 11th, Bama is 15th and UGA is 16th. But Bama missed the playoffs last year. Both Bama and UGA look likely to make it this year but UGA could easily be a 3 (if not a 4) loss team right now. I'll be surprised if any of OSU, Bama or UGA can make a stretch of 4 or 5 years straight in the playoffs going forward. None will have the talent advantage they used to have.
-
I'll be interested to see if MSU employs the same strategy as they did last year (playing to shorten the game, consistently snapping the ball with under 5 secs left and conservative play calling mixing runs and short passes just trying to keep the chains moving). They had the true FR QB and overall were pretty terrible on both sides of the ball last year so it made sense, and if you all recall, it was an extremely frustrating first 2/3 of the game before we finally broke it open. I have barely watched MSU this year but I feel all things equal Lebby would prefer to play (or at least mix in) Tempo if he thinks he has the personnel like at Ole Miss and OU. With this being 4th straight 'road' game with defense playing 80+ snaps last week, I think if I were them I would mirror game plan from last year and keep our D on the field.

I wasn't necessarily talking about Texas this year. To the larger point, it's pretty clear Sankey saw the NFL parity coming and that's why he's open to playoff expansion + more guaranteed SEC spots. Particularly with a 9 game conference schedule. As for Texas, certainly not excusing this season as it's clear we are wasting a championship caliber defense. If we could pair it with even a top 30 offense we would be an elite team. But offense is a complete failure across the board and I don't think fixable. We don't have a true #1 WR or #1 RB which might not be a disaster if they weren't paired with an absolutely horrible OL and a QB that misses layups every single game. I think there should be changes to the staff that misjudged personnel this bad + massive re-trades on any budget consuming NIL deals or let guys walk (i.e., Wingo/Moore if they are getting paid like #1's) + competition at every position. Offense is bad enough that blowing it all up with 4+ new starters that aren't currently on the roster is probably the best option. I'm not out on Sark at all as he's built the program that actually has high expectations again but I think we got extremely complacent on offense and Sark needs new voices in the room (and I'm definitely supportive of the idea to take coordinating/play calling off of his plate so he's not spread so thin). I heard through the grapevine BEFORE the FL game that Sark's demeanor this season is completely different (i.e., he's pissed off all the time) and now I think pretty easy to see why. I'm guessing he saw this trainwreck coming in training camp.

This. Is there a single program in the country where the fans are consistently happy with their coach? Particularly in the new era with top talent disbursed all across the country? There were serious calls for Day's head after Michigan last year. If he were to lose to Michigan again this year, that would start up again championship be damned. Everyone at Bama was ready to fire DeBoer after the FSU loss and, talking to Bama fans a couple of weeks ago, they are still one loss away from turning on him again. If UGA doesn't either win the SEC championship or make a playoff run this year, UGA fans will start grumbling. This isn't excusing Texas this year as I think our staff completely shit the bed from an offensive personnel standpoint and we're wasting a championship level defense, but I think it's going to be hard for fans of big brand programs across the country to adjust to the reality that college football (and the SEC in particular) is basically the NFL now with point spreads typically within 10 points for the vast majority of conference games which means 'unexpected' upsets every week (just like in the NFL), but with even more variability given these are younger less experienced players with inconsistent performances week to week.
-
This is pretty much where I am. Young teams rarely play consistent week to week. I think we've seen our floor against UTEP and Florida and maybe our top level the 2nd half of OU. I'm guessing we get a mixed bag this week as well and luckily Kentucky just doesn't have the roster that Florida does. I think we get a relatively frustrating win and frankly that would be fine with me. We need to try to get more consistent, stay healthy and stack wins during this phase of the schedule.
-
I'm not telling you that you are wrong and I have no doubt it was a great setup. I'm just trying to offer advice given lack of sales. I've attended several of yours and can attest to how solid they are. But I'm just letting you know that nobody in the group we were with had interest in a Texas specific tailgate on that trip as everyone wanted to check out the Gainesville vibe. I think if it were a night game and people thought there would have been enough time to do both, your ticket sales would have reflected that.
-
I think what hurts attendance at a place like Florida (or TN next year) is a lot of people are making the trip for the first time and want to take in and walk around the campus, drink and eat in local restaurants/bars and otherwise experience from that perspective vs. a tailgate with longhorns. Most I know that went to Florida didn't stay in Gainesville so only experienced campus area pregame. I think you would have had better attendance at Florida had it been a night game as people could have done both.

Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
Skipper replied to closetojumping's topic in Football
I don't think this has anything to do with CJ one way or the other and certainly not the staff pushing Gibson out the door mid-season (unless an unreported culture issue which I doubt is the case). Gibson is just looking out for himself by preserving his RS. He knows he's not getting 1st or 2nd team carries absent multiple injuries. -
Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again

Hopefully the RB room can stay healthy and this won't impact us but stuff like this (happening across college football no doubt) is another reason the redshirt rule needs to just go away. Every athlete should get up to 5 seasons of eligibility period. That's it. No 4 game rule. No injury redshirt (although I could be convinced otherwise on this point). But if a player signs on to a team for a year, they should be expected to finish that year out or lose any Revshare/NIL benefits. From Gibson's perspective, it makes complete sense to leave the team now as he hasn't burned a shirt and gets to retain this year of eligibility, but we just need to remove the entire concept from the equation. He could stay here and be a depth piece and potentially get a chance to either carve out a role for himself here or help his value in the portal if we end up needing to play him. Instead, it's essentially a wasted year for him and a wasted roster slot for Texas.- 8050 replies

The Dallas Stars 2025-2026 Season Thread: We can haz cup?
Skipper replied to Longhorn_Fan68's topic in Other Sports
I can't make tonight (tix already traded for later game) and also can't make this Thurs or next Tues with youth sports. Anyone looking to buy tix to Thurs or next Tues before I list? In 105N. Our season ticket price is $138 per this year. Haven't checked 'market' but would take something less than that I'm sure for early season weeknight. -
Someone in our group mentioned there was a part of the midway this year closer to the stadium (maybe where the busses came in?) that you had to show (not scan) your ticket to get through. I wonder if they tried to do a mini "outer fence" on that side. But I 100% agree the outer fence would solve the problem. They did that for the Stars Winter Classic game. Huge outer fence and it was so much easier to move around for a sold out event. Of course, the only fair park attendees that day were going to the game so the 'fair' is what makes it such a unique setting but also pain in the ass for crowd management.
-
Pretty clear from the posts that it's a night and day difference between if you were on the renovated west side or non-renovated east side which happened to also be the side everyone was baking in the sun so non-renovated concourses extra crowded. The west side was much improved. Hopefully when they work on the east side the mensa candidates designing it can add a few more urinals to the restrooms. It's not rocket science. Only 4 urinals in a restroom meant to be utilized by 1000+ people is true design malpractice, but still overall much better and next season i'm just going to go scout out where a bigger restroom is pregame.

Anyone that prefers that is a moron.

I don't remember if it was this thread or another thread but a poster was taking the position Sark can't win big games and in support of that position claimed that neither @ A&M with the SEC Championship game on the line for the winner or either of the 2 playoff wins last year were "big games". That is the kind of 'fan' I was referring to in my post that would claim yesterday isn't a big game W.
-
This. Their LT held just about every play in the first half and no calls.
-
That was definitely significantly better line play yesterday than I expected even in an optimistic scenario considering the quality of opponent. Hopefully can start to build some confidence. Clear weak link of the team but if they can continue to improve our season outlook changes significantly. Hopefully we all look back as Florida as the ass kicking they needed to step up and get better. Need to rewatch game but I thought Brooks played better after a rough start and see that is a consensus. Tough position for him to be put in but encouraging he held up ok.

On the upper west side the renovations really helped this. So much more room now. Where we were was the best for in game beer sales easily. Never a wait longer than a couple of minutes and enough open space that they weren't in the way.
-
Well I've been to 27 and only a handful have been 2:30 kicks so that hits different. Last year waited too late for our Fletchers and stood in line too long around noon. This year did that at 10:30 and sole focus until leaving for game at that point was beer. But hey, clearly fair food is really important to you so will gladly stop engaging.
-
The way yesterday went is exactly why I said it would be absolutely idiotic to play Mateer under the circumstances. Thankfully they have a head coach who is indeed that idiotic. If yesterday plays out exactly the same with Hawkins, they largely would have gotten a free pass from the national media, and while their own fans would still be pissed, they would be confident all could be salvaged once Mateer is back. Instead, Venables back squarely on the hot seat with his fan base and season could easily crater from here. Love it.
-
You are in the stadium for 5 hours. I'm not missing the game to go back outside to fucking eat. Have you ever been to a Red River game? And you clearly missed the first part about Fletchers early. But yes, adjusting food routine for 2:30 kick next year.
