  1. In theory they could have opened up Wertz and Starke earlier and dropped those lakes down well below constant level, and then allowed the flood waters to fill it up without flooding while continuing to pass water down through Mansfield and Tom Miller (earlier). But I can't imagine that's even considered. What happens then if the flood isn't as bad? You're left with low lakes that you have to fill back up (which I guess you could do by letting water out of Buchanan and over the Inks spillway, but then you end up depleting Buchanan?). Also, LCRA should take over Longhorn Dam. It makes no sense that the last dam in the line is controlled and maintained by the City instead of LCRA. Some dude just called into Jeff Ward's show and was making this point.
  2. My bad. I misheard Bucky. He said Taylor Anderson was the only WL QB to win twice.
  3. Final 44-14. Chaps win consecutive games against LT for the first time ever.
  4. TD Westlake. Anderson again, 29 yard run. LT has quit. 6:14 to go, 41-14.
  5. and Garrett Wilson returns the kickoff 97 yards for six. 34-14. End of the third quarter.
  6. Taylor Anderson 64 yard run. TD Westlake!
  7. Card with another pass to Westlake. Bucky is perplexed.
  8. Disregard the "maximum". Looks like it can be higher than that for larger families. That looks to be pretty close to the max for a 2 member household though.
  9. It's applicable for 2017 tax year. Penalty is based on a percentage of income, with a maximum penalty is $5,984. If you have compliant coverage for one day in any month, that amount is reduced by 1/12.
  10. that iHop is always jammed. I don't see it closing. TL&C was perfect for that place because it didn't do enough business to make parking a problem, and there's not near enough parking if some restaurant opens and does well.
  11. That was cute
  12. The food at Stubbs isn't very good, but it is a cool venue. If I were you, I'd try to get a room at the San Jose on S. Congress. It's across the street from the Continental Club, which has great live music pretty much every night, and close to a number of good restaurants. Also just a short Uber drive (or not too bad of walk depending on the weather) from downtown.
  13. 63-14 Iconic score
  14. Popeye's in Westlake has apparently closed. They are currently de-branding it. That place has been open at least since I moved here in 89.
  15. Longhorn Rugby started season practice today. Conditioning for an hour in the morning (apparently was brutal) and then 2 hours of work late afternoon. They now have a full time paid coach (Zach). Season schedule: 9/14 - Orange vs Black Scrimmage 9/22- @ TAMU (1st and 2nd Side) 9/29- Ark State & Alumni @ IM Fields (1st and 2nd Side) 10/5 - vs OU in Dallas (1st and 2nd Side) 10/13- Baylor (1st and 2nd Side) 10/27- @ LSU (1st Side Only) 11/2- vs TXST @ IM Fields (Mixed Side) 11/10- UTEP (2nd side Only) 11/17- LSU (1st side only) 12/1- UT HS Rugby Camp (HS Students Only) 1/26- TAMU (1st and 2nd Side) 2/9- @ Univ of Arkansas (1st Side Only) 2/16- @ Baylor (1st and 2nd Side) 2/23- Red River Championship (1st side only) 3/16- @ Arizona (Spring Break Trip) (Squad of 25) 3/23- @ Arizona State (Spring Break Trip) (Squad of 25) Most matches will be at the Huns/Elite fields off Nixon but a some of the preseason matches will be at the intramural fields.
  16. Honestly they should have just made it an annex of Hut's years ago. Their pizza was fine for Austin pizza. But it was just Austin pizza. They could have used the space for burgers. Like JM did with his original place on Manor and the back building.
  17. K-Bobs in Clovis is outstanding, Salad Wagon and all. I will fight you if you disagree. Even has a bar to catch part of the game if driving through on a fall Monday evening.
  18. Add one more to the list (soon) Freedmen's to Close
  19. You thinking of Johnny Rockets? It was one of the first tenants when they re-developed that site after MD&B closed. Not sure it made it to 97 though. There was also a kick ass pizza place a block or so west about that time.
  20. Posted: 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2018 Here you go, Bolverk. An seven-story office building that could be up to 96 feet tall is being planned for a site just south of Lady Bird Lake that now houses a Schlotzsky’s restaurant. Property owners Michael Carl Pfluger and William Reid Pfluger plan to ask the city for a zoning change to build the project on 1.26 acres at 218 S. Lamar Blvd. The Austin City Council is scheduled to be briefed on the proposed project Aug. 9. Amanda Swor with the Austin law firm Drenner Group PC is representing the Pflugers in seeking a type of zoning known as a planned unit development, or PUD. Swor said the earliest anticipated start of construction is 2020. The property is appraised at about $6.2 million by the Travis Central Appraisal District. Heather Chaffin, the city’s zoning case manager for the proposed project, said plans call for a building with about 154,000 square feet of office space and 26,000 square feet of pedestrian-oriented uses on the ground floor.. The developer is offering up to $20,000 to upgrade an adjacent Capital Metro bus stop. South Lamar Boulevard is identified as an “activity corridor” in the city’s Imagine Austin comprehensive plan, according to the developer, and the new building would mesh with what city planners envisioned for the area. “Activity corridors call for a variety of activities and types of buildings located along the roadways,” the developer said in a submission to the city. “Specifically, this project will provide an office use along the portion of the South Lamar corridor between Riverside Drive and Barton Springs Road where there are currently no other office uses, thereby providing a vibrant, needed use for the corridor.” But some area residents say the project is not a good fit for the location. Dave Piper, president of the Zilker Neighborhood Association, said the site is better suited for a residential use. “Here’s a perfect opportunity to put in residential housing that the city claims we need,” Piper said. “Do they really mean what they say when they talk about the need for more residential density?” Chaffin said the site’s existing zoning allows a mix of residential office and commercial uses, though it does not require a mix. A development could be all residential, all commercial/office, or a combination of uses. Jeff Jack, a resident of the nearby Zilker neighborhood, said: “My personal concern is that the building is too tall at 96 feet” for a location where height is capped at 60 feet. In a controversial case, a site just across South Lamar that formerly housed a Taco Cabana received PUD zoning and 96 feet of allowable height, although that project has yet to break ground. The 218 S. Lamar development would have access to both South Lamar and Toomey Street, Chaffin said. All parking would be in an underground garage, and parking would be made available to the public after hours, Swor said. Portions of the garage could be used for parking and storage by the Zach Theatre, which is located next door, according to city filings. Those filings indicate the ground-floor uses could include retailers and a high-turnover restaurant. Once the PUD application is submitted, it will be reviewed by city staff and undergo other reviews by various city committees, Chaffin said. The Austin City Council will have the final say on the zoning change, she said.
  21. Indian Springs kids were bussed to the new C3 camp since it’s last term ended last week. Inks Lake Camp didn’t evacuate (other side of the lake from the fire). Latest news is that east of 3509 (Hoover Valley Road) can return so that would include Indian Springs. I haven’t heard if they are going back or staying at C3 for the night.

    Marble Falls

We go from Austin to Burnet quite a bit, via 71 to 281. Traffic through Marble Falls on a weekend in the summer can be brutal. If you can get a place in Horseshoe Bay or Granite Shoals that doesn't require you to get on 281 much, you can avoid some of that. Having said that, for a town of its size it's got good restaurants, a good sized medical center close by at 71/281 intersection and the beautiful Hill Country and lakes. Plus it's 30-45 minutes from downtown Austin depending on traffic.
  23. 7s is mainly backs, and I like Union better. But Perry Baker is fun to watch (except when he does stupid shit like that). Edit: Stupid shit like that being giving up a penalty try with a ball slap. Edit2: And that was ridiculously stupid. Take your 6th place trophy (best finish ever btw) and be happy I guess
  24. El Patio. YOU'RE ON THE CLOCK!
