  1. Does Taylor Sheridan own Paramount+ at this point? Seems like a decent % of their shows are created by him.
  2. “When it comes down to it, being a slave was like spending a week at a so-so, all-inclusive resort.” - Ron DeSantis next month.
  3. I didn’t say 1 plan hit all of those marks. But some definitely hit 2 of them in their pricing model, frequently at a low and a high level. You obviously go to great levels to manage to the kilowatts used each month and stop yourself if you’re using too much. I’m talking about the 99% who do not do that.
  4. I’m referencing plans that advertise a rate that has a limited range of that advertised rate. they structure the plans so they so a decent rate for 500, 1000 and/or. 2000 KWh. Looks good on the fact sheets. Use 499, 999, 1001 and/or 2001 and the effective rate doubles. I get that consumers should always be wary of scams or fine print but electricity is a public utility and shouldn’t be offering gotchas to the public. and I’m ok with a rate that goes up at 1001 or 2001. But not a $100 surcharge. It’s just taking advantage of people. No CR but it’s Texas politicians selling us to the power companies.
  5. I’m not enjoying this season like the first one. I find myself not paying attention and then not worrying if I didn’t fully catch a scene.
  6. Ain’t no one paying 8.4 cents unless they locked in a multi year deal 2-3 years ago.
  7. I’m only seeing plans below 10 cents that have the crazy rules where you are penalized if you go over 1000 kwh and some also if you go under 500. They game their plan so they can show a low rate at exactly 1000. 1001 costs you another $100 penalty. usage fees should be outlawed. But Texas.
  8. Aldean's recent statement His point above is that the song is about loving your neighbors and wanting to get back to a sense of normalcy. But his lyrics sound nothing like that. hmmm.
  9. Not too mention that the ultra-expensive filters that help to trap pollen or pet dander force the system to work harder to pull in air. Might be better for some to tell the wife that you bought the filter to help with allergy but instead buy the basic. Read an article today that AC systems are designed to approximately lower the temp 20 degrees. I'm not onboard with living inside at 80+ degrees during the avg summer day.
  10. So country singer tells black people to not stand up for themselves in a small town or face the consequences if they do? Yeah, I can’t imagine that wouldn’t be controversial or that he is oblivious to how that is received by many. You still have mild-to-heavy racists that want to reply, “all lives matter” whenever they see “black lives matter” even though no blm activist ever said white lives don’t matter. regardless this guy will make even more money as a culture warrior.
  11. Adobe is also a media content owner or at least they license media from others. They would love to make a licensing deal with celebrities, athletes or even just everyday models. Then Adobe can allow their software to utilize that likeness with AI creation. All for a small or large fee. you want to generate a picture of Taylor Swift on a social media ad for your business? Just pay Adobe a million bucks to generate the image via their AI. It could also allows Adobe to approve the content based on Swift’s guidelines. smart move of Adobe to push legislation that will protect their interests.
  12. Didn’t realize these were state charges. They should be scared because even a trump win won’t give them a potential trump pardon.
  13. When running for senator in 2020, Tuberville ($20m net worth) pledged that every dime that he made in DC as senator would be donated to our fine military personnel, presumably active or retired. Since being elected, he’s earned >400k as a senator, and he’s perhaps donated a few thousand and even that appears to be anecdotal. His staff readily agrees that he hasn’t donated his pledge, so it’s not like he's secretly donating the money. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/07/19/tommy-tuberville-veterans-fact-checker/ During his pledge he didn’t lay out a time line for the donations, but it would safe to assume that he should be donating the money at least annually. another annoying part of this article is that even his senatorial staff refer to him as Coach.
  14. Put together big plans, convince the city/state to hand over big incentives based on the potential, and then start with an RV park? The citizens are getting fleeced. and maybe the theme park will get built but I would bet it won’t be built anytime soon. The best deal for the developers is to delay and go after even more incentives especially if the politicians turn over to a new group.
  15. SAG-AFTRA telling non-union social media influencers that if they take on any new work to promote tv or films, perhaps even just as a fan, they won’t be eligible for union membership later on. While I understand the concept of a digital picket line and scab workers, this seems to be petty to me and it’s never a good look threatening low power people. If they’re telling people to not create content about tv/film or face consequences, then why aren’t they also requesting fans not to go see the content? Shouldn’t Margot Robbie or Cillian Murphy tell their fans to avoid their new movies? Isn’t paying to see a movie also crossing picket line? Shouldn’t Christopher Nolan, presumably a directors’ union member, be warned to stop giving promotional interviews for his film or SAG members will not work for him again? if you’re going to play hard ball with some TikTok users, why not go after your own industry a bit harder? Or are they afraid to ruin a few big movies or piss off a big director?
  16. I’m cynical so I believe there is a decent chance this was completely planned.
  17. If the feds are against what Texas is doing in regards to the WipeOut! buoys, why doesn't Border Patrol just remove the red buoys from the Rio Grande. It would be an interesting showdown if Texas National Guard or DPS try to stop border patrol from managing an international border. The Constitution is very clear which party has authority and which one does not.
  18. I’m reading a headline that AT&T hit a 30-year time low today. Time to gamble buy?
  19. Previously networks had to fill 21 hours of primetime content each week. For whatever reason, they landed on 22-24 episodes per season by the 90s. I believe it was 30+ episodes between Sept and May in the 50s. There was probably only a week or two off in there. But if you're Apple, you have no inherent reason to release 21 hours of original content each week. You do what you want. They might only release <5 hours per week because as of right now, no looks at Apple TV+ as their only entertainment option. On the other hand, Netflix looks to release more than 21 hours per week given their foreign content. If you're a streamer, your goal should be to only create/release as much content to meet your subscriber goals. Any more could be viewed as a bad business decision.
  20. Background. Houston, 1500 sq ft home, work from home most days, just me. I keep the temp 75 during the day and 73 at night. My Nest has been running the AC at 12-18 hours per day recently, and my AC sucks at cooling. I have closed off the spare bedrooms and partially shut their AC vents which has kept those rooms warmer but I don't care. I won't do that permanently. To be clear, it's not hot in those rooms. I did this to increase supposedly increase the cooler air flowing to the other rooms that I'm in. I also bought a Nest temperature sensor for my bedroom. It's basically a wifi thermometer that I place in my bedroom. From 9pm to 7am, Nest uses the temperature in my bedroom as the guide to run the AC. It's $40 and I find it keeps the bedroom temp more consistent including running the AC less often.
  21. The traditional residuals makes sense when there is new revenue being produced when someone watches the content. If you watch a rerun of an old sitcom or movie on TBS or NBC, the distributor generates revenue due to the ads being displayed to you. Or if a movie is rereleased in the theater, new box office revenue is generated. For Netflix, whether someone watches 1 or 100 hours of content that month, Netflix still receives the same $10-20 per month. therefore Netflix has a limited, although large, amount of revenue to create/pay for content. More watching does not equal more revenue. Note: the ad-supported version of Netflix is a hybrid model. To me, the actors and writers should look for an agreement where a percent of subscriber fees are distributed based on what that subscriber watched. For argument sake, say $1 goes to the artists out the $20 subscriber fee. If that subscriber only watched 1 episode that month, say Stranger Things, then the $1 goes to the residuals of the Stranger Things artists. If that subscriber watched 100 episodes that month of a wide variety of shows including that 1 Stranger Things episode, then the Stranger Things artists should get 1/100 of that $1, or 1 cent. The $1 (or whatever is considered fair) gets distributed to the artists and it's based on the popularity of the content. If no one watches a piece of content, you get nada.
  22. DeSantis is quickly turning into a 2024 version of Scott Walker. Or perhaps he won't even make it to 2024 as a viable candidate.
  23. I was born in the late 60s and the nuclear threat wasn’t considered a big deal. Didn’t fears peak in the 50s and early 60s? guess we had a few movies about it like WarGames.
  24. "Ignore that I lied to the previous software engineers when I failed to deliver on the promised compensation. There's no chance that I would do the same to you." Elon is one of the few employers where you might require to be paid in advance. Perhaps you need to require a signing bonus equal to a month's salary. Effectively a security deposit on the eventual layoff.
  25. PSA: Buying a window unit for emergencies has saved me from a hot night a few times.
