  1. Wimberly cleanup folks: what are going to be the biggest needs going forward? I don't own a chainsaw or a truck -- I could go buy the former -- but I can drag shit to somebody else's truck, I can handle a broom/mop, I can bring in supplies, I can donate money. Which efforts were overdone and which fell short? I remember a few Texas natural disasters (Bastrop fire, various rain bombs, some tornados, etc.) where FEMA etc. basically said "stop bringing clothes and food, just give money", but I'd like to also do something on site if possible, however meager.
  2. It feels like you post this every time a natural disaster like this occurs, and I see it elsewhere, and people still can't seem to learn the lesson.
  3. I feel like I'm going to puke. When some crusty old ass like me dies in one of these events, that's sad. Little kids at summer camp? That's just totally heart-breaking.
  4. Whole piglet?
  5. What the fuck?
  6. Maybe just grow tougher skin.
  7. Lucky for us, Dan Patrick is currently "Acting Governor". He's probably more useless than Abbott.
  8. To Spencer in bed? Ew.
  9. Sold the house a few years later.
  10. KXAN's "future radar" seems to be predicting a near-total weakening by rush hour, and then a second build around sunset (for whatever that's worth).
  11. Cost me $20K in new hardwood floors. Kinda seems trivial compared to what happened 10 years ago and now today.
  12. It pales in comparison, but Hermine dumped over a foot of rain on Austin in one night back in 2010.
  13. I know for a fact at least one south central Texas meteorologist was hinting at high flood risk in the Hill Country as early as yesterday morning ~ 9:30 AM. But, risk doesn't necessarily demand evacuation.
  14. Y'all are right, I was assuming the heavy rain could be forecast & timed to some degree, but this would seem to indicate otherwise (just an example gauge):
  15. How fucking difficult would it be for town and county officials to get out ahead of the flooding, drive to the camps and tell them to clear out? This just feels like a huge fuckup. I get the "cry wolf" concern but at some point the adults have to act like adults.
  16. For a sense of scale, the costs of the Blanco River flood were estimated at ~ $3B. Somehow I feel Abbott won't do enough, regardless. Call it intuition.
  17. I'm not sure exactly what this means -- are they expecting Lake Buchanan to absorb all of the floodwater from upstream (San Saba River -> Colorado River)?
  18. OK, I'm not there but my daughter is. The first show of their Euro tour is at a festival in eastern France. Iron Maiden is the headliner. I love this bus:
  19. The San Saba River is forecasted to peak at 32.4 feet, another 17+ feet above its current level. Christ, this is feeling like the Blanco River flood from 10 years ago.
  20. What time did you get there? I specifically want the lamb chops, at least for my wife. How big are they?
  21. What's the expectation as this thing crawls east towards the Austin metro area? The new kid on KXAN is not exactly Spencer or Yeomans.
  22. Dang. I think I know where I'm getting dinner.
  23. Mack Brown @ Texas: 10 bowl wins in 16 seasons Texas A&M 1990-2025: 10 bowl wins in 35 seasons, 10 coaches (including 4 interim head coaches)
  24. You and me both.
  25. Good news, you now have listeria. Really good news: your chances of survival are as high as 80%. FDA sets blueberry risk to highest level due to listeria outbreak
