  1. I am currently rotating to Kazakhstan on 28/28 and I fuckin love it. Holy hell is it ever painful getting anything done over there but fuck it. Like someone said, the money is green.
  2. Oil. It’s a blessing and a curse. Pays good. Most locations suck ass. The lean times are dog shit. The good times are great.
  3. Damn I was just at Notre Dame four hours ago. I saw they had scaffolding erected all around where the fire is. I’m guessing it was flammable solvents or a short circuit or something along those lines. That is very bad news. I feel lucky to have seen it just before it burned.
  4. I’ve got a UT Mech E BS (2010 grad) and a USC Petroleum E MS. I work for a well known integrated oil and gas company, and have since 2012. They also paid for my MS (75% reimbursed). In 2016 I got pretty sick of the layoffs and applied for five full time MBA programs (top 10 schools only). I didn’t get in to a single one of them, man what a slap in the face that was. It’s been a blessing though, honestly. I’ve been able to go expat and doubled my salary while working half the year. I currently make significantly more than the average starting pay for MBA grads. I have several friends who quit the oil and gas business and both ended up getting their MBAs. One from USC and the other from Rice. They were both engineers and they have both said the schoolwork is not exactly hard but it is a very heavy load, enough to keep you very busy. Then you add in the social commitments, recruiting dinners, etc. It’s pretty full on. One of these guys ended up working VC in biotech / medical devices. The other one is in consulting in the O&G space. If you’re looking to make a career change don’t underestimate how tough it is to escape your past industry. Both of them had to work very hard to change career paths. It’s very competitive right now in the MBA space.
  5. I can see that you’re on a high horse here, but I’ll respond to you anyways. Current temp in mammoth lakes (town) is 14 F. Its likely 10 to 20 F colder on the mountain, so I anticipate it would be pretty fluffy snow. Usually the Sierra cement comes in on storms in the high 20s / low 30s. Given that I’m not there and this is all pretty hypothetical I guess the bottom line is it don’t make a shit but I’ve boarded there enough to know that when this storm is over and they dig out the lifts enough to run them, there will be some sick face shots to be had.
  6. Yea they just got a ten foot storm in mammoth. I’m pissed I’m in Colorado now and not California anymore. Those pineapple expresses really come through.
  7. I used to smoke weed with his kid back when we were in school together in Austin 😂
  8. I got the rabies vaccine before I mobilized overseas. I don’t know about the cost because it was one of a litany of shots I got and the company paid for it all, but it wasn’t anything special in terms of pain or aftereffects.
  9. I’ve spent a good bit of time at both and I gotta say this is wrong. They’re both good but like posted above, Brighton is the local boarder’s hangout.
  10. So what kinda kickbacks are you getting for this ad? looks like a nice enough place for a haircut.
  11. Damn this volatility is wild.
  12. Read in the news the volcano had been erupting since June.
  13. I’m a green belt. At my company it’s total bullshit. You fudge some numbers to make yourself look good on your annual performance review, everyone has a party about it. Nobody even bothers getting into the details of did it really make a difference.
  14. This is a really good early season. Yesterday Breck was boasting about how it’s the earliest they’ve ever opened all their terrain.
  15. Well. Like Onboard put it, I just want to know who are these people and why the fuck are they in my vacation 😁.
  16. Yea man. I hear ya. I just moved to Denver and I have some friends visiting for New Years that want to ski that week. It’s gonna be a shit show for sure. I used to go to Mammoth around New Years when I lived in California, shit was like 30 minute lines. Usually I would get a few runs in off the opening lifts then abandon ship.
  17. Yea that’s fair. I should have gone a little further up I70 haha. I was at vail least week for that midweek storm and it was quite nice, the place was deserted and I had fresh tracks that outlasted me.
  18. I’m at breck today. There’s good powder... if you can find it. Just like most powder days it is tracked almost as soon as the lifts open. I don’t know if it’s because it’s a Thursday or what but there’s a lot more people here than I expected.
  19. X3 on the Osprey Farpoint 40. I travel internationally for a living and when I got this assignment I had the exact same question as OP. After reviewing many brands, North Face, Tumi, Patagonia, etc. I ended up with the Farpoint. I have been very happy with it.
  20. Thanks, I figured it was something along those lines.
  21. Why is Chesapeake continuing to decline? I was under the impression they had made a good acquisition that was going to be accretionary to their cash flow.
  22. I skied breck Monday and am at vail for yesterday and today. Coverage is good for this early in the season and it looks like vail has 3” of powder it got overnight for me to play in today.
  23. I was on Badalona in August and the bare titties were out in full force ☺️
  24. You can easily fill five full days in Barcelona If you want. I’ve spent about six weeks there myself off and on this past year El Nacional is a great recommendation, I’ve been there before and I only had a couple of cocktails but the food at the various restaurants looked and smelled great. For tapas in Eixample one place I wouldn’t miss is Cerveseria Catalana. Just excellent tapas there, I’ve been there multiple times. It’s a great date spot as well. Another cool spot nearby in the Gracia neighborhood is Plaza Del Sol. It’s surrounded by restaurants and bars with patios and lots of young people hang out there in the evenings. I’m sure you know this, but dinner in Spain is typically from 8 at the earliest until 11. 9 pm is prime time for dinner. Unless y’all wanna eat alone don’t go out for dinner at six or seven. I wasn’t too big on the cocktails myself while I was there, usually I was either drinking wine / cava or Estrella on draft.
