  1. If you want a good show about two Odd-Couple-y detectives thrown together to solve a murder, check out Deadloch on Prime. If for nothing else but the pilot's a cappella rendition of I Touch Myself sung by a lesbian choir.
  2. Are we to believe that Clark saw Navarro when he said "she's awake" and started seizing in the first episode? A "time is a flat circle" thing? Or did I completely misunderstand this?
  3. The scene where he's dying and he and Kelly Reilly are talking to each other in his mind? dream sequence? has some of the most cringeworthy dialogue I have ever seen. I could barely watch it.
  4. The Big Salad lady was Lynn from 24.
  5. Yes, she's married to a guy, but she identifies as Two-Spirit and has had same-sex relationships.
  6. I don't hate it as much as the rest of y'all, but I can't figure out if the relationship between Danvers and Navarro is supposed to be platonic or that of ex-lovers. Or maybe maternal, in that Danvers is a mother figure to Navarro? They are too close to be just coworkers who used to be partners, IMO. Or maybe I'm completely off and it's just because they are both queer in real life.
  7. Apropos of nothing, Christopher Eccleston really owns every role he plays. Took me forever to figure out who the hell the actor was playing Ted, even though I've seen him in a million things - I kept thinking it was Michael Rapaport but with a twist, and kicked myself when I finally looked it up. I think the supernatural has to play into it somehow. They seem to be trying for some kind of Lost-style faith vs reason setup, although less directly than with Jack and Locke, and playing on many of the locals' acceptance of supernatural explanations. I know it's a totally different show, but I keep thinking of Northern Exposure and Joel's beliefs vs those of the locals and Natives. You have the group deaths, possibly of fright, of both the herd of caribou and the scientists in the first episode. Multiple people in different places at different times hearing "she's awake" or whatever the phrase is. The one-eyed polar bear that keeps showing up. They have a shitload of stuff to wrap up, though, so who knows what'll happen.
  8. I seriously LOLed. It's....sweet? that y'all want to see crew team-era AG but let's not.
  9. She really is one of very few women who look just as good with the pixie cut as with longer hair.
  10. American Fiction is fantastic.
  11. Obviously I’m a full-blown, Republic of Austin, hippie woman who’s a staunch feminist, but…I don’t think it’s that crazy that Margot and Greta didn’t get nominated, while Ryan did. They were all great, but while I loved the movie, it’s a stacked field and he was the standout character, IMO. If Greta was going to win for anything, it should’ve been Little Woman, and Margot for I, Tonya. I think they’ll both get their due one day. I said what I said.
  12. For an early 90s show, they did a pretty good job of dealing with issues of race amongst the natives as well as homophobia. Not perfect, but I like how Joel's super empirical science mind is challenged by Native beliefs and how the non-native locals are open to them. And I've already mentioned Maurice and how his love of musicals and fine food, among other things, are kinda gay-coded. He gets so offended when the gay couple shows up in season 2, who wants to buy something from him, and he realizes they think he's one of them, but he still likes what he likes. (Also, one half of the gay couple is Duncan from Seinfeld, but I digress.)
  13. I've never thought about sound editing in a movie until this one. So much of the movie is about the background details - the sounds, the puffs of smoke from the train that passes by, etc. I don't think I've ever seen such a visceral movie that is so free of violence and gore.
  14. I liked this. There were areas where I felt like it needed to dig in and commit more, but it was pretty good for Jake Johnson's directorial debut.
  15. Another two-hour delay tomorrow for AISD.
  16. I'm sure you've done something by now but yes, Benadryl works - the dose is 1 mg/pound of body weight. So one Benadryl per 25 lbs. Hope he feels better!
  17. All KXAN says is "We don’t anticipate this would be cold enough to strain the electric grid, but it’s possible it could be cold enough for pipes to burst."
  18. Edgar verifying that the fireplace works.
  19. Going to PM you - we must have lived near each other. We built our house in the early 90s on a lot on Monroe that used to house a big boat the locals called The Ark. Coming from Port Arthur, I had not heard of it, as a child, but people who had been in Groves for a long time used to come by to see the house that was built where The Ark used to be.
  20. Completely agree. Joel reminds me of Dennis the Menace when he's with Adam.
  21. You know, I did noticed most of the music is well-known songs but covers I'd never heard of. I thought it was just an artistic choice but now that you mention it, it makes sense that they'd swap it out for the originals.
  22. Looks like a gumbo night.
  23. I seriously LOLed at the episode where Maurice fires Chris from the radio because he mentions Walt Whitman's homosexual tendencies, then proceeds to play nothing but show tunes the whole time he fills in for him. 😂
