  1. Random story - my oldest son watched Poltergeist a few years back with my SIL. When they got to the part where they start reciting the Lord's Prayer during the bird's funeral, my non-religious child goes "Isn't that Metallica?" 😂 That movie was amazing and I wish more people would watch it. It's like two separate movies - first, a calm relationship drama, and then the last half is like if a death metal album came to life. I mean, at one point To this list I'll add Evil Dead Rise Talk to Me Barbarian Malignant
  2. WSJ is saying that there were 10 people onboard and all were killed.
  3. What's crazy to me is that Alden Ehrenreich's character doesn't even have a name - he's credited as "Senate Aide."
  4. I fucking love that movie. /csb
  5. It had no face. No personality.
  6. Sure, I'm not contesting that point; I'm contesting the idea that no American citizen would've stayed at their post. There are plenty of Americans who can't just leave their jobs without supervisor permission, even in dire situations.
  7. VPNs are good to have for privacy in general. NordVPN is a good, standard one for personal use - I used it for a long time. I recently switched to Mullvad after reading an article in Wire, and it's great, but they are super-committed to privacy beyond a normal level so the sign-up and payment process is a bit different. For those of you looking for a Ron Swanson level of privacy, you want to go with Mullvad.
  8. Trees die when they burn to the ground.
  9. I went to summer camp in Silsbee every year as a kid. This tracks.
  10. That’s a great typo.
  11. These are looking southeast from the deck at Red Horn about 6:30 pm. We were evacuated about 20 minutes later. IMG_3734.mov
  12. I was at Red Horn for trivia and we had to evacuate about 20 minutes into the first round. Hope they get everything under control soon.
  13. Ha, that's the only Ari Aster movie we haven't watched together, because I don't want to watch that scene with him. At this point he's probably found a way to watch it online without me knowing, but that's fine. It's a good scene in the context of the movie. I just don't want to be there when he sees it. That is an offer I would love to consider if I wasn't already married. To a Surly-er, no less.
  14. Aww thanks. He got into Stephen King a few years back and he convinced me to rent the new It (both parts), even though I hated watching horror movies back then. Fast forward a few years and I don't draw the line at much, mainly gratuitous sex. The most awkward scene we've ever seen together is the sex scene in Beau is Afraid. And we saw Oppenheimer a few weeks ago. IYKYK.
  15. That's what they said - I wasn't sure at first either.
  16. Saw it Friday with my 15-yo son - we both loved it. Tightly knit horror with fantastic acting, especially by the main actress, Sophie Wilde, and Miranda Otto. The directors are apparently YouTubers with a huge following, and this movie broke out when it was selected for Sundance.
  17. I go to the movies at least 1-2/month but only at the Alamo (usually Village or Lakeline, sometimes South Lamar). Had to go to a Cinemark or some shit a few years back because we were joining friends who'd already bought tickets, and it was awful for all the reasons in the OP.
  18. Adding to the general greatness of the movie was that every so often during a quiet moment, you'd hear loud booming from Oppenheimer showing in the next theater. Loved all the kids from Sex Education showing up in smaller roles- can't wait for the next season of that show to come out. And I read that they were planning to do a joke about how Margot Robbie and Emma Mackey look alike, but when they got them all Barbie-fied they didn't look as similar as they initially thought. Still...
  19. Just saw it. Incredible. It’ll sweep everything but Best Actress, because they’ll nominate Emily Blunt as a supporting actress.
  20. TIL there's a third Skarsgard kid.
  21. I wasn't into the Barbie movie at all till I learned it was helmed by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. I like them so I'll give it a shot. Maybe just when it comes out on streaming, but still.
