  1. Believe it or not, I hadn't seen this until now.
  2. I had to stop at several points, starting with the story about the dog.
  3. Yeah, I'd consider it if it was just my kid, but I'd still have to drive the other ones in carpool if he wasn't there. So we'll all be stuck in traffic together.
  4. Yeah, I think getting down there is going to be ok; it's the drive home that might be messy. Not a huge deal; it's just something I'm trying to plan for.
  5. Yeah, we live northwest off Mopac but my son's school is south of the river and tomorrow is my day for carpool. Is it normal to do this on a weekday at rush hour? Thankfully it's been a long time since an officer died in the line of duty so I don't remember what happened last time.
  6. Got a call from AISD a couple of hours ago that Officer Pastore's funeral procession will start tomorrow at 8 am at Mopac/2222, and staging will begin at 7. They're calling to give everyone a heads up because of traffic/school bus schedule delays. Does anyone know if the roads shut down at staging time or procession start time?
  7. I fucking DIED at the story about the almost fight in the Senate yesterday. You have to be a special kind of moron to challenge - to fisticuffs! - a man who is not only president of the Teamsters, but who is named Sean O'Brien and is from Medford. THAT's the guy you want to pick a fight with? I was talking to a friend about this last night and this morning she sent me this TikTok and said "this is you talking about it last night." Yes, yes it was.
  8. I really didn't get the horror classification of this one at first. The whole time I kept waiting for something really crazy to happen. And then.
  9. Was this the case with the cab driver? I thought he was just a random person drawn into the whole thing, but maybe I missed something.
  10. Ugh, I'm glad I read this thread before watching the series. The book was great and I don't want this to ruin it. God help us if they try to adapt Cloud Cuckoo Land.
  11. This is exactly what I said - from the first botched hit to everything else. Some other thoughts: I do generally like Fincher. Just didn't love this one.
  12. One to add to this list - They Look Like People. It's super low-budget indie horror, and the friendship at the center of the narrative really makes the film. I laughed out loud at some parts, which I definitely wasn't expecting. It's free on Tubi.
  13. I really enjoyed this A24 film - I read a list of horror movies Mike Flanagan recommends and this was on it, and I've been thinking about it ever since. Want to do a rewatch soon. And there's a creepy song that'll get stuck in your head.
  14. The lead actress is really great, but this was one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. It had an interesting premise but just didn't work for me. I read about Lake Mungo in a list of movies that Mike Flanagan loves, and noticed it streaming on Shudder so I watched it last night. It starts as a "documentary" about what happens to a family after the daughter dies, but it turns into something else as it goes along. I enjoyed it a lot and will be thinking about it for a while.
  15. Hell House, LLC (Prime) is a pretty good found footage story.
  16. This article details all the Poe references in the show.
  17. It's an expanded version of the story The Fall of the House of Usher. Different Poe stories/poems are heavily referenced in each episode, and in this universe, they all come together to form the larger story of how the house of Usher fell. Obviously, many liberties are taken with the details. It's not perfect, nor my favorite Flanagan vehicle, but I still enjoyed it a lot. If you're a book nerd and Poe fan, you'll find it interesting, at minimum.
  18. Finished last night. I generally liked it, although it's not my favorite Mike Flanagan series. This (very spoilery) article outlines all the Poe references throughout the series if you want to brush up. Some general thoughts.
  19. Hamish Linklater is amazing in Midnight Mass. I was really expecting him to get more awards for that performance.
  20. No, that was 2021. Last year was Midnight Club.
