Getting some sort of wintry precip in 78727 - maybe graupel?- Winter Weather 2025 - Arctic Blasts or Sweaty Ass?
He's my favorite local weatherman since Yeomans left. His FB page is a great follow.- Neil Gaiman's Sandman (Netflix)
This NY Magazine article from this week is so disturbing. It has a trigger warning and even so, parts of it were hard to read.- Southern CA Fires- Extreme Santa Ana Winds
Watching this, I was most surprised at how slow-moving the fire was and how almost casual everyone seemed (I know they weren't actually casual) - I always imagine scenarios like this happening really quickly with everyone running around like crazy trying to evacuate. How horrible to see it come at you slowly and still not be able to stop it.- 28 Years Later. Boyle. Garland. 2025
That's an amazing use of that poem. I didn't realize it was Kipling at first - thought it was a woman, actually. The way he reads it, it sounds musical, like the key changes several times to get higher and up the tension. Here's an embedded version.- Off Grid Alaska
My cousin in Homer went to leave this morning and found this guy outside her front door. She went out the other way.- Hey Griswold, where you gonna put a tree that big?
If the place you're staying doesn't have full sewer hookups, then you usually drain the hose into a septic tank and then empty the tank at the designated dump site before you leave the park. This was pretty common back in the 80s and 90s when we first started RV camping. My dad's rule was that we weren't allowed to take a shit in the RV toilet if the park we were staying at had a public restroom, unless it was the middle of the night or an emergency.- Squid Game - Netflix
Slap Daddy ftw.- Squid Game - Netflix
Someone on Vulture called him that and I stole it. I've been meaning to watch Train to Busan and now I have another reason - thanks!- Squid Game - Netflix
Not sure if we're spoiling but just in case- Nosferatu
- Nosferatu
Eggers is definitely who I think of when I think "atmospheric" these days. He absolutely nails the gothic horror vibe. The acting is superb. All that said, it moved a bit slowly for me (it's very rare that a horror movie should go past 1.5 hours, IMO) and I have questions about the plot. I've never seen the original and maybe that's why?- Nosferatu
The Lighthouse is definitely the weirdest of the three. It's in black and white and has almost a fantasy vibe in some places. But Dafoe and Pattinson are incredible together. I'm glad Pattinson suffered through the Twilight movies to build up the name recognition that got him into great movies, or at least, movies where he can be great even if the rest of the plot doesn't quite work. Going to see with my 16-yo today but he and I have seen loads of horror together, so I'll just give him a heads up.- Happy Yule This Wōdnesdæg!
Buon Natale!- The movie you just watched
I just watched this last night. Acting was great, of course - the casting was impeccable. About the ending, though:- Time for another ‘my dog is awesome’ thread
Fluff n'Tuff are the absolute best in this area (for stuffed toys). I recommend shapes that don't have a lot of limbs/tails - my favorites are the caterpillar, the beach ball, and the football. I have extremely heavy chewers and some of these toys lasted for months.- Halloween/Horror Movie Thread
The new American one or the original?- McKinsey to Pay 650M To Defer Prosecution in Purdue Pharma Case
Yeah, I understand - I meant that I was expecting it to pack a lot more punch than it did.- McKinsey to Pay 650M To Defer Prosecution in Purdue Pharma Case
Lots of pharmacies are take-back locations or have in-home disposal products, if you want to safely get rid of the extra. When I gave birth in 2008 there were complications and afterwards, a nurse gave me a Percocet. I remember thinking, once it hit, that I now completely understood how people got addicted. I wanted to float like that forever. I've never taken it since, nor have I been offered it. Several years later I was in an accident and given fentanyl before they debrided some wounds and it felt like it didn't do shit compared to the Percocet.- Parody movies
Fresh Ass: Based on the novel Tush by Ass-Fire- Wicked, the movie...
I'm going to see it tomorrow. I've never seen the stage version. My friend sent me this, and the first part is definitely me right now, so we'll see if I end up crying at the end like this guy. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTYy57Qst/- Wicked, the movie...
I literally laughed out loud- Shrinking (Apple TV)
I'm not sure Ted McGinley is cut out for this dramatic arc. He was perfect early on, as a randomly funny background character who couldn't be fazed by anything, and that worked for the dynamic of the show. His and Liz's relationship was just a funny, quirky element of the show that made it special, but once he started getting out of his one-note performance, it became less believable to me. I don't love the direction they're going with her infidelity. It's getting too deep and dark for the show to maintain and I don't want it going south like S3 of Lasso.- DISCLAIMER* - Apple TV+ Series, Oct 11, Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, Written/Directed by Alfonso Cuarón
