    Getting old sucks

Yeah, my family members who process claims would beg to differ with you on this one.
  2. Years ago, I worked with a ton of aggys at Briggs Weaver in Dallas, who didn't wash their hands after they pissed. When I called them out on it they all said "we didn't piss on out hands". I told them I didn't want to shake hands with their dicks either so I refused to shake a lot of hands.

This happens all the time; there is a set charge for a procedure. But instead of the doctor having a set cost for the whole thing, they a la cart the invoice hoping it will get around the insurance codes. They add separate lines for sutures, bandages, gloves, giving an injection (the cost of the medicine is covered but there is a separate line charge for actually giving the shot, etc. Anesthesiologist get screwed all the time because of the way the hospital bills. You would assume that with a surgery you would need one to proceed but because they appear as a separate line on the bill, they are required to have preauthorization. If the hospital doesn't submit it for preauthorization, their fee can be declined. I know they are correcting this but the games that are played between the insurance companies and doctors/hospital are insane.

And doctors forcing people to pay up front, might not be legal. My son-in-law had surgery last year. The surgery center tried to force my daughter to pay for it all upfront. She pulled out the contract and told them to stick it where the sun don't shine because they couldn't do that according to their agreement with the insurance company. When I had my shoulder surgery, they made me pay $50 every rehab visit. When the new year rolled around I handed the desk my credit card to pay for my visit and they pulled up my account. Long story short they overcharged my almost $1800 the previous year and had to cut me a check. If i hadn't ask they wouldn't have paid me until they closed the books at the end of the year. The exact same thing happened with the MRI company. I got a check for $900 a year after I had my MRI because they "accidentally" overcharged me. I can't imagine how much money they bank with overcharges.

My daughters and wife work for BCBS. I understand why everyone complains about insurance companies being heartless corporations who just want to collect your money and then not pay for anything. But the reason they fight every bill is because of crap like that. A lot of the doctors they deal with have no business acumen and hire their barely literate niece to run the billing department. They believe they can get around the limits set by insurance companies by submitting outrageously oversized bills, hoping that insurance will miss something and overpay. The submitted bill for my shoulder surgery was $52,000. They ended up settling at $11,000. The doctor still made money or he wouldn't work with my insurance. You can't believe the quack procedures and charges they try to submit. Many not based in any scientific fact but more like medicine by Facebook. The sad part is that all the incompetent quacks/crooks cause such a crackdown that innocent and well meaning doctors get hurt in the process.
  6. Back in the mid 80's I sold safety equipment to the Miller plant in Fort Worth. They had 10 cent beer machines in the employee lunch/break room. Pop a top for morning break!
  7. I would talk to a reputable gun broker before you do anything. And I mean someone who trades in classic weapons. I have a friend that works for a big collector/distributor and a lot of people will bring him guns they had "restored" that destroyed the value of the guns. Even something as simple as trying to reblue a firearm can take away from it's value. Some things, if not original, are better off looking old. And I'm not talking about a gunsmith. They can "fix" anything but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do or in your best interest. He has plenty of horror stories where a gunsmith "fixed" a firearm only to trash it's value and collectability. They're may have a fee for looking at your collection, but in the long run it could save you a lot of money.
  8. I don't think I would call that number to rent equipment.
  9. He had to taser her. She was coming at him with a knife (and a walker). https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/police-officer-tasers-95-year-old-woman-sparking-outcry-and-inquiry/ar-AA1bobIO
  10. IDK the feminine mind but I firmly believe that when they buy something that usually comes from a husband or boyfriend, it's because they're thinking "he's not going to get them for me, so I'll get them for myself". Or it's a challenge to see how you'll respond, maybe expecting you to buy enough flowers for a Mafia Don's funeral to prove you care more. And I'm lucky in the purse department. I once told my wife I was going to buy her and my daughters Coach purses for Christmas. She said she would be mad and I was a fool if I spent more than $40 for a purse. And whatever I picked was going to be wrong anyway, because women are too damn particular about what they want in a purse.
  11. A friend of mine's grandmother used to shoot them with a double barrel 12 ga.
  12. Still available at DQ
  13. Whenever someone ask me if I speak Spanish, I always tell them "just enough to get me punched/in a fight".
  14. Not dead! One of his better quotes: "A couple of grand-slammys and the Brewers are right back in it."
  15. Badger going home like "just another good day at the office".
  16. Talked to my buddy. He doesn't know anything about it but he's going to make some calls.

My aunt, who was a true Matriarch in our family, had a stroke at 73 because she quit taking her BP meds when they were caused her to gain weight. She didn't tell anyone and lay on the floor for 2 days before they found her after she was hit. She was a big wig at SW Bell and was over the entire panhandle region at one time. Totally senseless all in the name of vanity.
  18. I know a gun importer who has brought stuff like this in before. I'll ask him if he knows anything about them. But if it's coming from Russia, I doubt they will get to the us via any legal method right now.
  19. I have a WWII Mauser P38 that was part of a cache found in a cave around Moscow about 10 years ago. Last year I finally got a chance to shoot it. Took it apart, cleaned it and it shot great. 60+ year old springs and all.
  20. I hope that i would get a chance to do this if in a similar situation.
  21. No knockout, but what a fat ass pussy. Sucker punch some kid for no reason other than he has a sign, then get protected by your wife and friends when the return punches start flying.
  22. Thanks for the trigger! I'm getting the same way about claustrophobia. I have to travel next week and take one of the little 1 seat on the left/2 on the right puddle jumpers to DFW. Now I'm thinking about how small that plane really is.

    Getting old sucks

You really want to know? First let me say my PSA has been as high as 15.8 but I don't have cancer. Yearly checkups are a lifesaver. I've had 5 biopsies. The first one was fine. The second one put me in the hospital because of infection which my urologist was afraid was going to turn sepsis. When my PSA hit 8+ the first time she sent me to UTSW for an MRI targeted biopsy. First day they MRI your prostate. (That's when I found out I'm claustrophobic. It didn't help they shove a probe up your butt to get a better picture. I heard the doctor ask the MRI guy if he thought I was going to pull myself out of the machine.) The second trip they use the MRI as a map to take targeted samples. They stick a tube up your butt so they can guide the needle and use a 3D pic of your prostate to "target" the bad areas. I think it's like trying to hit a bullseye at 100 yards with a .22. Unfortunately for me, the guy doing mine was a bad shot. He stuck my prostate 38 times before he could get all the areas. This is without anesthetics of any kind and no warning what was going to happen. People think blood in the urine is scary? You don't want to see what it's like when you piss straight blood. I was in shock for 24 hours before I finally calmed down. But the good thing is they have a map of my prostate and a good base of info from which to make a diagnosis. My doctor then left town and gave me the name of another. She told me I had cancer 2 twice. The first time she told me I had cancer, she changed her mind when they found a data entry error. The second time she told me I had it, she told me she really wasn't into prostate cancer anymore and suggested I go to UTSW in Dallas. Which was the best decision I ever made. The doc I see there is world class and focuses strictly on prostate cancer. Everything was fine for a couple of years. Then 2 years ago my PSA hit 15.8. Back to the MRI, but this time loaded up on valium. When they did the biopsy the next day, it was just the standard 9 punch variety. When I told her of my 38 hit experience she said she couldn't believe they didn't knock me out and said it was standard procedure now. Turns out the number was high because of BPH and a month of ibuprofen cut it in 1/2. With all that being said, I would do it all over again for peace of mind, knowing I'm cancer free. And I travel almost 200 miles to see my doctor at UTSW Dallas. He's a world class specialist and can run circles around all the local quacks who couldn't treat me because they had their heads stuck up their own asses. Bottom line, biopsies are better than cancer no matter how discomforting they are. And don't let internet diagnosis scare you. PSA is just a number and mean nothing without context. Find a good doctor and listen to him/her.
  24. These are pretty good too. Modular safe you can put together. They claim to be as secure as welded safes but are movable. 1/4" plate makes them difficult to cut quickly. You want to bolt them to the floor because they are portable. https://www.snapsafe.com/
