  1. I was going to put this in the Shit my kids says thread but it's not really my kids so I'm putting it here. I volunteer in Destination Imagination, a creative problem solving challenge for kids. I've been doing it 20+ years. The kids are given challenges and then told to come up with creative ways to solve said challenges, including creating stories, building props and machines to perform given task. I went to the state tournament this weekend and there were probably 3000+ kids there 1st-12th grade. There were 18 middle school teams in our section. I won't bore you with the details of what they had to do but 2 gems fell under "things that kids say". In the first group the device failed to work. We were talking to the kids about it and one of the girls, about 12 yo said (with a lot of hand gestures) "We used it for 4 weeks and it worked every time. But we bring it to state and it looks at us square in the eyes and says, SCREW YOU, I'm not working today." The second gem had nothing to do with their machine but with their skit. The main points in there story: It took place in Alabama, the brother was too stupid to remember his own name, his sister was a pregnant teen, she faked the pregnancy for attention and the moral of the story told by the brother was "never trust your ex-wife" implying that he was married to and got his sister pregnant.
  2. In 2007 Washington State threatened to sue and forced Abilene Cooper to change their mascot logo because they were too similar.
  3. The one thing I don't understand is fighting barefoot. It seems like half these fight have people with no shoes on wailing on someone. If someone comes at me barefooted, the first thing I'm going to do is stomp on their foot until their toes look like flattened Vienna sausages. To hell with wasting your time and energy throwing punches.
  4. LOL. When I mentioned I played the pipes in another thread, I learned about two kinds of people. Those who love the pipes and those who said they would run you over while you were playing if they got the chance.
  5. https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article268664592.html I agree that the never ending circle of violence is bad but after reading this, I can't say they both don't deserve some retribution.

    Getting old sucks

As of Saturday I officially lived longer than my mother (died at 54) and father (63). I hate that I now often have body parts that will hurt for no reason. But I wasn't sure I would make it this long, so while it sucks, it's a blessing too.
  7. Seems appropriate now
  8. Sounds like an accident should happen that would make it "irrepairable".
  9. Mine has done this with FB games and the Hallmark channel (with an occasional trip to HGTV). She is streaming some dumbass show called Drop Dead Diva whose story line is so stupid I can't even explain it. She works from home and when I walk in she is watching it until she goes to bed. I told her she was wasting the rest of her life watching tv, playing meaningless games and then received the alternative you mentioned.........
  10. We are hitting our 40th anniversary next month. I learned a valuable lesson from her dad after their 65 years of marriage. Quit listening. His wife always accused him of needing hearing aids but the reality was he was ignoring her criticizing and harping. I do it now. My wife is not sure whether I am ignoring her or really can't hear her but it's a win for me. I call it male pattern deafness.
  11. A lot of districts have designated people to break up fights. It is ingrained in the teachers to not get involved and allow the designated individuals do their job. Years ago a teacher in one of the local high schools tried to break up a fight between two girls. He was knocked down and hurt his back, requiring surgery. The administration challenged (and defeated) his workman's comp claim because he wasn't the teacher in charge of breaking up fights.
  12. I'm really more intrigued by the jet powered locomotive.
  13. It's time to fire up the great aggy network!
  14. She ain't got nothing on little league baseball moms or girls softball dads.
  15. The committee intentionally seeded them lower so they would have to face a team that was more likely to beat them. It's all part of the international plot to keep them from showing the world their athletic dominance. JDay In reply to AggieRob93 • 10:05p, 3/16/23 They knew to match the Aggies with the worst possible matchup. That was the big F-you the committee sent the Aggies. Bjork needs to punch Byrne in the mouth next time he sees him for being a part of this ****ing.
  16. Am I the only one getting 20 calls a day that say " I'm with senior aid helper, regarding a financial matter...."? It's a robocall so I can't even jack with them like I do other telemarketers. I never answer them but it always leaves a message. Pisses me off.
  17. I know a guy that worked maintenance for Schlitterbahn years ago. He's a HSE now. He was not impressed by the guys who owned/ designed Schlitterbahn and rumored that there were a lot of injuries that were covered up and buried. He refused to get on any of their rides.
  18. Yeah, I thought the same thing. You can never tell how hard someone is punching but the kicks to the head looked pretty vicious. He's either really tough, drugged up or has a really thick skull.

    Getting old sucks

^^^This^^^ I've lifted weights at some level since 1976. Sometimes heavy, sometimes light. But I've always had some kind of muscle mass. When I passed 60 it all started going away. No matter how much I lift. And now the days after lifting weights hurts like hell.
  21. Cookbooks. No popups or mindless drivel banter. Though the might have my mothers hand written notes. I've got at least 40 of them going back to the 40's. Need a recipe to cook pigeon & squirrel? Want war time necessary rationing substations? Got it covered.
  22. Or at least keep doing it through the offseason to keep things lively! My SIL was talking to my wife one night after taking Ambien. She trailed off in the middle of a sentence and my wife could hear her snoring. She woke up the next day with the phone under the bed and no recollection of calling my wife. It can hit some people pretty hard.
  23. Hearing her scream Ayayayayay really sets the mood of the video
