  1. I don't want to belabor the point that repeating the first half of your post ad nauseam is annoying, but I do want to say that the Texas NIL machine is going about their efforts in the right way. The team-wide deals lose their recruiting value if they aren't sustainable. It takes time to raise the kind of funds that will accomplish the goal at Texas. I don't know how SMU/Tech are funding their stuff, but the guy doing it for Miami has already said he's going to start scaling back. After one year lol. We aren't going to lose important recruits to SMU or Tech because of 30k, so have some patience while the difference-making work gets done.
  2. Give me 41-13 Texas and 193 yards for the receivers
  3. The bet on passion has been funding payments to players for more than half a century. I don't see any reason to think that will stop now that it's legal.
  4. Those were Sark's words in the preseason presser. My interpretation is that the coaches know our edge rush isn't consistent enough to force QBs to get ball out quickly, so the DBs will have to cover a bit longer to allow time for the DL to make pressure. That said the DL (interior especially) has been a lot better than preseason expectations. Agree with what you and Fumbles are saying.
  5. Judging safeties in coverage seems like an exercise in futility without all-22
  6. I quite like Thompson and Cook so far, but I do hope that Crawford can improve to take Cook's spot next year One thing that I don't have a strong opinion on but that I'm going to pay attention to is the demands that we're placing on the secondary. The defense is using the 'coverage to generate pressure' approach, which is a big ask by itself. Then you add a mobile QB like Harris, and you're asking them to cover for a long time. Like 4-5 seconds when the average release time is 2.5-3. I think the approach makes sense with our personnel (i.e. consistent strength being interior push), so this is more something to note than a complaint.
  7. Couple things on the run game and play calling in general IMO we're better at zone blocking (especially outside) than power schemes right now. I think the interior guys benefit from helping each other on their initial blocks. Makes up for their lack of strength and they're all athletic enough to get to the second level. Zone also means fewer pulls, which they've been bad at. UTSA LBs played the run super aggressively. We were able to punish on a couple jet sweeps but I think we need to see more of those early in the game rather than starting by trying to establish the inside run. Sark's affinity for speed should pay off big time here. On that note, Sark definitely held back schematically against ULM and UTSA, and not just because of the QB situation. He's saving a lot things for good opponents. Compare Bama with the other two and it's night and day. He'll show ULM/UTSA a lot of different personnel packages and formations, but is mostly running basic stuff out of them. I don't know where Tech falls in his mental hierarchy, but I expect to see more motion and creativity than last week.
  8. Bijan's financial priority needs to be getting to his second contract asap. And possibly to his third while he's still young. Unfortunately, RB is probably the position where it makes the least sense to stay for the fourth year. Fortunately, we're stocked at the position.
  9. I'd argue Quinn should travel for the process. He hasn't had to travel so far this year. Have him go through the flight, hotel, visitor locker room, etc. That stuff matters. Did he travel at all last year for OSU?
  10. Unfortunately I'm not sure that will work anymore now that it's been put on film
  11. I proposed something like this last year. A 2 qb system where Casey took the snaps and made the reads but would hand it to Hudson if it was an intermediate or deep pass (this was in the preseason when the narrative was Card had a better intermediate to deep ball but Casey was better short and knew the offense better) That didn't gain much traction, but perhaps this is the year. Quinn takes the snap, makes the read, and makes all the throws, but if he is going to be sacked then he hands it to Hudson to take the hit. If we're worried about Tech playing dirty and twisting Hudson's ankle, then when Hudson gets sacked and is at the bottom of a pile, he and Quinn can switch back so that they're twisting Quinn's healthy ankle instead. Player safety is always paramount
  12. Is scipio tex's post-mortem for offense out yet? Looking forward to that one
  13. Sometimes, not often, I wish I could like comments though the screenshot. Best drive the Ags had all weekend lmao
  14. They caught us in a stunt and the second level messed up
  15. Sorry, to clarify, I was just providing context around Bijan's pass blocking, not trying to argue he's a winning matchup against Anderson. I think there was a breakdown somewhere along the line on that play. I originally thought Anderson was the guy left free but it was Ebiogbe.
  16. To add to this discussion on booster behavior, here's a part of Godfrey's article This will be interesting to watch across the sport moving forward. Theoretically collectives should be a little less fickle than bag man networks. That won't help A&M though.
  17. On rewatch with the broadcast angle, I see that Ebiogbe (#92 coming off the right side; Turner is guarding JWhitt) is a bigger problem than I thought. I stand by liking the play design and call though. Not sure about the OL assignments but I think someone made a mistake to allow 2 guys unblocked. And maybe that mistake was just Bijan slipping. It's Justin Ebiogbe coming off the right side. I had kind of missed that, so an immobile card may have been done for regardless. Healthy QBs have a shot against a DL re-accelerating after pausing for the play fake, but maybe Card was done for. On Bijan's pass pro: 7:44, 9:04, 9:56, 13:47, 23:41, 28:30, 31:17, 45:08, 49:56 (the play in question) at this link https://youtu.be/cgofO6tB3AU Those are all of Bijan's pass pro reps that I saw. He was flawless. His improvement over last year is amazing. 7:44 (against Anderson), 13:47 (against Anderson), 23:41, and 45:08 are especially impressive. Also, I now definitely think the tripping incident was on Card. Ewers has the same fake at 9:04. It should be right foot back, left foot forward, fake. Sets you in throwing position. Card moves his right foot first but doesn't get it back. Not blaming him because he was injured and I thought he played pretty well overall.
  18. Disagree with the discussion around that play. Sark got Whittington one-one-one against Dallas Turner. Very close to being a repeat of the deep shot to Bijan. It's an awesome play design. The key to it is that the play fake to Bijan has to hold Will Anderson, but Bama has a DB blitzing from his side so he can play down very aggressively without having to worry about edge responsibility. Then, Bijan steps on Card's foot - perhaps Card's footwork was different by a couple inches with the injury - but Bijan had been awesome as a pass blocker all day. He stonewalled Turner and Anderson multiple times. If not for a really unfortunate series of events, Card has another half second and he hits JWhitt for at least a 15 yard gain and possibly a touchdown.
  19. OB stuff from Cook (ft. comment on Arch) Also, Suchomel said that Duce Robinson's parents still came to visit this weekend.
  20. hey @immamac (everyone else can ignore)
  21. Having an IT issue (can't post on the football board). Spoilering this because I don't want to clog up the thread. Tried to post a topic in the Help forum but I wasn't able to. inb4 why would you want to post on the football board!?
  22. Brenen Thompson and Savion Red are going to be interesting data points to follow this year. Based on their early returns (along with Worthy, Neyor, and Milton), Sark's WR evals have been nails so far. Red is especially interesting since he was a Sark special with few offers and a low rating. On a related note, our favorite Sir Jeffrey Ketchup had this anecdote on Niblett this morning: "Niblett: 10.41 (100 meters), 21.25 (200 meters), 23' 6.25 (long jump)... Of the top 30 wide receivers in the country, Niblett ranks tied for second in the 100, 3rd in the 200 and 3rd in the long jump." Full stats spoilered. 14 guys had verified stats for 100 meters, 13 for 200 meters, and 11 for the long jump. Zachariah Branch and Pettaway are the other guys with equalish or better stats across all three categories.
  23. 2014 Jwest 3rd floor. 8th floor and above had been renovated that year. But I was one floor above the buffet and started my T/TH with an 11:00 on the second floor one semester. Waking up at 10:55 was glorious.
  24. It’s not about momentum. The staff has a couple guys on the board. One of them is announcing today and is gettable while we have a low chance with any of the others. So do what you gotta do to win this one and wrap up the class rather than hoping for a long shot down the line.
  25. I'll take "doesn't make me want to permanently quit sports in the midst of what should be a fun time and incredible offseason." Information and discussion related to the 2023 texas football recruiting class is a plus. motherfucker Alex Dunlap: Rivals is More Right About TJ Shanahan than 247 Sports and On3 This isn't even that bad. It goes against surly's impression of Shanahan but challenging your priors is a good thing. However, next up is a Ketch article on why we should never take 3 stars. And I'll post it non-spoilered, not in plain text, and with ads.
