    1) that did not happen 2) if it did, it's not the anecdote that i think you wanted it to be 3) ok, whatever, we can pretend and play your little games; let's do a little thought exercise around why a child would do such a thing. how old is the child? sometimes kids say stupid shit. it's a miracle my kids still live under my roof as many times as they threatened to run away at 8 or 9. has the child been depressed? have there been any other warning signs of mental health anguish? is the child struggling in any other area of their lives? do you even care? no, you do not care. for you it's more important that people conform to your ideas of how the world should be. see, your major problem is that you are scared of demonstrating empathy. you probably don't know why that is, and it's pretty sad. you don't try to take a look from another person's perspective except as a lens to magnify how you would act in their stead. it's all about you. how something makes you feel. what choice you would make in a given situation. of course you would choose not to be gay, queer, transsexual, whatever. why, you might wonder? because you aren't that. neither am i, so it makes it difficult to empathize. but i try to listen. that's the best i can do as a middle age white straight dude. i try to listen and i try to understand. might not always, there are some letters in the alphabet soup of "queer" (if i can even say that word) that i don't understand. that's okay, i think. i'm working on it. because this conversation is not about me. why do you think it is about you?
  2. ma always told me that'd make me sick. never once made me sick. mom was a fucking liar. next you'll tell me there's no tooth fairy
  3. maybe yall are overthinking it? i dunno
  4. i sure feel like 99 degrees on the thermometer is "warm" for my sons. when i take my temp with the digital forehead thing, i'm never above 98. usually something like 97.2. so i assume anything 2 degrees higher than me is a fever, even though i probably run cold.
  5. plus one again. there is nothing missed in this show. not a wasted moment so far.
  6. fucking mooseoutfront told us. i miss little things like this all the time, and i like to think i'm paying close attention.
  7. deepeasttexas nailed it. nothing in the game or the show really is a wasted interaction. it's hard to explain without getting too spoilery, but the timeline skips ahead here and there as they travel. the pieces of the timeline we see are important to the story. i'm sure they kill tons of runners and clickers in the in-between time, but that's not the point of the game's story. we saw bill get shot and his care for frank with his hurried instructions. he's not just some guy who chuckles when his booby traps work. now it matters. now it's more than the game it was, because of frank, and because of frank, bill has changed. that's what makes a good story. bill consented for frank to fix the place up a bit. he later says in the episode that he wasn't scared until frank came along. he changed over the course of the episode, in a loving and caring and amazing way. so when he gets shot, we see the depth of their care for each other. bill has made contingincies for frank, because of course he did. but it also underlined how close bill and joel become. there is so much implied off screen work (including the blowjob) going on in this episode and they dont insult the viewer by pounding it home that joel and bill are close in the fashion they can be given who they each are. we get bill and frank's relationship. joel and tess at dinner. then joel and ellie finding the letter. goddamn, it's so good.
  8. it's a fucking sickness. whoever posted that tweet above where he compared himself to al fucking capone had me in laughing in hysterics. i hate this man. what is wrong with me?
  9. wait, heb is closed. fuck
  10. jesus mary christ, i forgot about that
  11. +1 to aisd for canceling proactively. this is much better to me than shitting around waiting until 7am tomorrow to call it.
  12. you are right in that it had an excacerbating effect, but i've been taking shit from my london colleagues over aisd closing at the drop of a hat for more than a decade now. it seems that no matter what the school district does, it hems and haws and drags its feet and ends up making the wrong decision anyways. fuck it. err on the side of caution if you are uncertain. cancel. just fucking make the decision so people can plan. also, understand that you aren't dallas or houston. we are austin. don't stay open just to stay open. this city can't handle it. talk to the surrounding districts, maybe. coordinate. plan. HAVE A PLAN. fuck. even if you don't, just make one. call it. that all makes sense. but everything seems to be doing that heading south thing when you can sense things are wrong, you don't know why, but you just know. when the messages are all mixed, its time to just cancel everything.
  13. this i get, and this should be the message. but this is ominously reminiscent of that snow day aisd wouldn't cancel, then people couldn't get their kids because it started snowing at noon or whatever. how is there not a fucking clearly eloquted (is that a word?) policy for this shit by now? we fucking know this is going to happen a couple of times a year. put a fucking time and temp and precip or not on it and let's all move forward with our lives. it's the fucking wishy-washy guessing i can't stand.
  14. i don't fucking get it either. i keep text my wife "what am i missing," checking my phone, getting more alerts of places closing, looking outside, i see nothing. a cold day in january. i mean, are we going to cancel over a cold rainy day? jesus. i don't even see it getting below 32. sure, that'll freeze some overpasses, maybe. delay school or cancel it, i don't really care. but i'm not at all ready for mass power outages or my gas heat going off. what the hell am i missing?
  15. and i've repped everyone in this thread since that episode because.
  16. so i don't know what to say. that was an amazing episode. i'm still reeling. for those of you asking if that was in the game, i'll answer in spoiler tags, but i'm not spoiling anything, i don't think. and they did it in a way that i don't think i'll ever see done again. that was incredible. just fucking incredible.
  17. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11692549/Memphis-DA-rule-charges-against-officers-scene-Tyre-Nichols-beating.html huh. weird.
  18. because there are way way way more racists out there than we realize. modding this relatively sane board exposes me to plenty of racism and has since the shag days. you can definitely see it in the rep histories for sure. i always find it funny that people think that's anonymous. warning: if you go looking you will be disappointed at some point or another. they are everywhere.
  19. no shit and 100% correct. i'm only just now scratching the surface of racial inequality in this country, and i only just started really digging. and before that i thought i understood race relations and history in this country. i've made statements like "we're 50 years after the civil rights movement!" and "are we in a post racial world yet?" i didn't realize how racist i was being. i actually thought i was being reasonable. that's the thing about ignorance. you can learn what you don't know, but you can't magically know what you don't know. that's why i asked @52-80 if he asks himself critical questions before posting.
  20. it's really bizarre. i mean, i don't want to go full cloak conspiracy, but this dude seems to be firing people with whom he politically disagrees. it's his radio business, so it's his call, but the market is primarily austin, not bastrop or lampasas.
  21. and i missed this post. great fucking post.
  22. agreed 100% - and you did a great job of what i was trying to say. race is nevertheless inescapable in this instance. it is impossible to overlook. you have to put in some real effort to be race-blind to this issue.
  23. fair enough to ask questions - lord knows i've asked enough in this thread. i answered in line above.
