  1. This goes back to what I said originally - prices have already risen noticeably and I don't believe businesses are going to just voluntarily roll back prices. I think those price increases are here to stay and I think the buying power of our dollars has already shrunk. I'm not worried about growth. Pent up demand from the pandemic will help a lot.
  2. What about from Feb. 1, 2020 to now? And the coming months? That's the period where it appears that inflation will blow past that target.
  3. Sorry, mate, I'm not an economist. Can you please 'splain?
  4. PPPBBBBTTHHH!!! In her world, reason is superfluous. In her world, giving me a reason means I win.
  5. Speaking of trips, my wife refuses to use luggage unless we are getting on a plane. So for weekend trips using the car, which are most of our trips, she uses open top bags for all of her shit. Clothes, toiletries, hair dryers, everything, just stuffed in fucking bags . Does the same thing with groceries - paper sacks upon paper sacks of groceries. That might not sound that bad, but when you go to pack the car you understand what is wrong with this. Shit easily falls out of bags that don't even have a way to close. Plus, open bags really don't stack well, so they have to go on top. As opposed to cuboid shaped suitcases and totes that stack and pack very well. Shit drives me crazy. I've asked her nicely, even if she doesn't understand the reasons why, to please, pretty fucking please with a cherry on top - use a fucking suitcase. Refuses.
  6. I'm not going to take the time to game out an entire scenario, but I can tell you that massive inflation and the resulting recession or depression will be a big part of it. Inflation scares me and it's already happening. Real estate prices skyrocketing to ridiculous levels. Consumer prices for ever good under the sun going up, up , up. "Experts" are saying it's temporary; I say bullshit. Like everyone is going to just miraculously lower their prices to pre- post-pandemic levels? Riiiiiiiggghhhttt...
  7. I'm in the NTTAWWT crowd, so I don't consider being homosexual a source of shame or an insult or anything of the sort. I'm more just curious - do you think any of these guys has ever accepted that they are homosexual?
  8. It's just so fucking weird.
  9. Why not both?
  10. You really think so? Seems right for Bregman to move to his natural position at SS and for Toro to stay in his natural position at 3B. Diaz would still be in the same role as utility man. If Toro was not a MLB 3B then I could see the move, but he looks the part so far.
  11. I feel spoiled.
  12. I'm not an expert on American government, but I'm pretty sure the answer is not that Joe Biden would have been escorted out of the White House and Donald Trump back in. We can do "what ifs" all day. What if DJT had refused to leave the WH? What if Raffensberger had chosen to whore out to DJT and "found" 11,000 votes in Georgia? Those what ifs didn't happen, just like yours didn't. The one dumb bitch who actually breached an area where there were members of Congress instantly found out even before she made it through the door. I'm not saying we don't want to keep a close eye on all of this shit and actively fight it with everything we've got. I just think it's an overreaction and a lack of faith in the strength and foundation of our democracy and, frankly, a lack of understanding of how our government works to think that 1/6 almost took it all down.
  13. No, no, no, no, no. It's not like there are only two extreme views 1/6 - "HORRIBAD, WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!" or "nothing to see here." I was horrified by it, scared and extremely concerned by the whole Trumpist/fascist movement, especially including what happened on 1/6. I just don't think we actually got close to a government takeover. It's important to take it all seriously; it's also important to understand it for what it actually was.
  14. No we didn't. 10,000 or so people basically trespassed and vandalized the capitol building. It was shocking that Americans would behave that way, but it was effectively a meaningless exercise. They didn't even disrupt congressional business going on in the same building in any meaningful way. Delayed it a few hours. That's it. They never got close to actually seizing power. The real, actual power was never remotely threatened. Congress was still intact. The actual, duly elected president was in the White House. The Supreme Court was intact. The Pentagon was unaffected. The entire bureaucracy was still answering to the right people. This "movement" didn't have the numbers, they didn't have the right people in the right places to even get close to an actual coup. This was a cartoon of a coup, nothing more.
  15. Scherzer was running his hand through his hair a lot; more habitually than he has done in the past. He could have had some kind of sticky product in his hair that would be very hard to detect - mousse, gel, hairspray. Scherzer sure was defensive about it. I think Girardi is an asshole, but I also think he had a legit reasons for suspecting something. The unwritten rule that managers look the other way has been re-unwritten. Shit like this was bound to happen.
  16. People will die or be harmed regardless. I have zero data on this, but if we could calculate deaths and violence derived from a political movement, I don't think this particular movement has actually caused that much death and violence, relatively speaking. I see them as a bunch of all-talk pussies; all hat and no cattle. I think it's fun/feels good to rally on the internet and in an echo chamber, but when it comes down to actually doing shit, most know deep down that a lot of what they claim to believe is bullshit and not worth acting on and getting killed or going to prison (all of the Jan. 6th dumbfucks nothwithstanding). The potential is there, sure, but I think Jan. 6th was the peak and it will slowly fade from there.
  17. Maybe I'm the naive one, but I'm not too worried. I tend to look at things now through the lens of a longer period of time. Sure, when you view this moment or even the last 4+ years as a moment, shit seems pretty bad. I don't have to list all the shit. Some of it is very troubling and scary. Most of it I cannot believe actually happened. Broad trends in politics and society happen more slowly that we can perceive them. We are used to perceiving things quickly and reacting quickly. I think that particular factor has been exacerbated by the internet and 24-hour "news" cycle, which are still relatively recent phenomena. We're constantly bombarded by fresh content. As a society, we haven't learned how to deal with that yet. Media companies are good at snagging attention, if even for just a few seconds at a time. So while we have a much larger fascist contingent in our country than I am comfortable with, I think it's a blip. It's the effect of a confluence of unusual circumstances - black president backlash, wage inequality, internet still growing and changing, media fighting for market share, shrinking white majority feeling threatened, etc. These conditions are going to change and fade. New conditions will come into being. Everything will change...slowly. Maybe for the better; maybe for the worse. Personally, I don't see this brand of Republicanism lasting much longer. I think the Tea Party-->Trumpist version of R is not sustainable. Outright lying to people, spouting ever more outlandish and ridiculous conspiracy theories, being evil - none of that is a winning political strategy long-term. I say this in spite of the fact that it was a winning political strategy in the very recent past.
  18. Do the Stros make any moves at the deadline this year? If so, what? The way they are playing right now I would hate to give up any future potential to plug holes that don't exist. Early in the season I would have said we needed a center fielder who can hit. But with Straw hitting over .250 and driving in runs to win games and shit, I'm not sure we even need to do that. Quality bullpen arm? Scherzer on a postseason rental in the last year of his deal?
  19. I would assume from the blood of real tigers.
  20. No Tiger Blood? Trash.
  21. What? Have you seen Donald Trump? He was certain to fuck up a national crisis. China knew exactly what would happen. Hell, I knew exactly what would happen.
  22. I'm not sure what you mean by "pull this thread," but I don't think China would be advantaged in the Hong Kong kerfuffle by creating a deadly pandemic. Trump was antagonistic toward China on trade because of his "transactional nature" and belief that China has been getting over on the U.S. for decades. He used it as a political talking point, telling his base what they already thought was true. The U.S. is among the parties holding the line on Hong Kong, but Trump was no more or less likely to be strong on that position. Trade - a different story altogether.
  23. I'm not saying I hope this is the case or that I would condone it, at all, but frankly I would not be surprised in the least if China manufactured the fucking virus and intentionally let it out knowing what would happen and that they did it to ensure that Trump did not get a second term as president. I really wouldn't. If I'm China, I'm that pissed at him over all the trade war bullshit and worried about what the fuck he might do militarily or otherwise. The odds are nil of anyone able to conduct an independent investigation inside China to find out the truth, so they would never get caught.
