  1. I had a lot of fun watching Williams vs. Hurd on FOX Saturday. Hurd was starting to gain steam as a dangerous man at 154, and I thought he was better than the much more hyped Charlos (which he still might be), but Williams just took it to him, and beat him at his own game on the inside. Great fight. The two fights on ESPN were not nearly as good as two bigger/longer guys beat down their smaller counterparts. Berchelt looked much too fast for Vargas, and Navarrete looked much too long and busy for Dogboe.
  2. I drive Uber/Lyft in my spare time and all the tourists like yourself love Rainey after starting the night at Whisler's on the East side. Maybe dinner at Salty Sow or Sour Duck before (or something on S. Lamar like Loro or Uchi). I like different places because bachelor/bachelorette parties all over Rainey sounds fun but they're not as much to me. So I can't really recommend, but those are what are popular on whatever websites are sending people agendas for short trips here. With more details might could put together a better rec.
  3. Yeah I wouldn't buy otherwise. The way he pulled those two girls? No virgin has that kind of confidence just to take them to the room for conversation.
  4. lolwut I agree that Patty is the culture of this team. I have no problem with him staying put because of it. He's not the player he was, but he understands the culture in a way DeMar and LMA don't. That's important. I'm also surprised nobody has mentioned the defensive improvement that we'll have with White and DJM next year. In a league run by guards it's going to be important to have those two to battle the killer guards in the West. We're not rebuilding anything, and honestly I'm ok with running it back and playing with the team we were supposed to have this year (+DJM) and a newfound quality youngster in Derrick White. Forbes goes back to the bench (or further than the bench), and we get two quality guards to start.
  5. Yeah y'all are right, I guess I was just hoping he'd take another step (not that he was in the early part of his career or anything).
  6. Was hoping he'd change his legacy's trajectory here, but he's just about continued his path imo. Same playoff player, solid/not great, won't carry your team but a capable 2nd option. Has the occasional breakout game where he pours it on (a couple games against he warriors a few years ago come to mind, when Kawhi was off, pre-Zaza year). Still enjoy him as a Spur, but always hoped he'd grow into something more than what he is, which is still worth having but..... yeah....
  7. I was thinking about this yesterday. I definitely agree. And my next thought was whether the young guys we have on this team now (whereas you know Manu and Tony and Boris and Patty probably loved the wine/dine shit) are down for the wine-tasting 5-course dinners. They very well might be, but I also wondered whether Patty was helping pick up some of the extra team-bonding by have the Coffee Gang meetings. It's basically the same shit, and it's pretty cool to see how it started with 3 or 4 of them, but now basically the whole team invited themselves and just hang out at different coffee shops on road trips now.
  8. Now that you say they drink, I was thinking to remind you of that little brewery on one of the corners there. Cara Cara. Nothing beats a day trip to have 2-3 beers before pigging out on BBQ. Personally I switch Black's and Smitty's pretty regularly. Smitty's sides are a joke, but I haven't had terrible experiences with their bbq so I still visit. Edit: well fuck me I just made it to page 2. Hope they enjoyed.
  9. This might be the one that makes me realize this. If you'd told 15-25 year-old me that I'd be showing Dirk respect on his way out I would've told you to go F yourself (especially when I was 15), but I'm actually really happy to see the guy get his respect on the way out today. I can't think of a bad thing to say about him. I hated his flopping bullshit in the playoff days, but Manu did it too, and they were both great, great basketball players. I'm sure plenty of Mavs fans felt the same way about Timmy and Manu when it was their time.
  10. Nope, the stage has been in front of the LBJ school. East is still East.
  11. You could do a Texas baseball > orange and white game > Spurs playoff game (at a bar) run Saturday if you were so inclined and wanted to die. Wow yesterday evening (Pre-Spurs game) I had thought about the possibility of a Texas Baseball>Orange/White Game>UFC Night trifecta.... but the Spurs just sent me into oblivion. This is going to take some careful planning. Gotta make sure I'm alive for GoT on Sunday night too. Let's go to war. If we get LMA involved early and make him the focus, I say we have a damn good shot.
  12. Terminator is a Minority and Austin born/raised. Went to St. Ed's.
  13. Hemisfair sounds like some real old guy shit, but those 32 oz. beers were still there as of last month when I stayed downtown for a conference. Luckily some things about SA never change (come back Timmy). Put us out of our misery already. And give Lonnie some more minutes please.
  14. I follow her on Instagram and she seems very fun. This seems interesting and I live on the east side. Might just be in.
  15. I saw it yesterday. Good movie, I gave it a B+, but I don't think Larson is the character they want her to be. She might be the first actress I've ever seen be likeable and attractive, but not have charisma somehow. She reminds me of Casey Affleck/Colin Farrell bc they get to do the same emotion (none) in all their roles and then get accolades. I can definitely see the introvert point. It was kinda weird that they have her like 4 smirk scenes and those were supposed to be her charismatic moments. A smirk? Music was cool, surprisingly the only one I felt was gratuitous was Nirvana. I'm a fan of theirs but it didn't seem to be the right scene for that song. I can see where it fits in the grunge-y tone of the movie though (along with the No Doubt, Hole, etc.) Probably won't see it again, unless I really run out of shit on Netflix.
  16. I gave Steely Dan a shot after a Google search led me to give 'Aja' a listen as one of the best records to own on vinyl (after I bought my turntable). I finally found an OG copy a few months ago and now I get the hype. What a great album. I still struggle to describe what makes it great, it's just kind of everything. I spent an hour last night watching live performances/making ofs, etc. of 'Peg' and 'Home at Last'. Black Cow, Deacon Blues, Aja, all great. Gotta try the other albums, I know some of the songs from growing up with classic rock radio.
  17. I guess I have heard that requirement a lot (nickel needing to be physical for the run game). I just don't see him at field corner in all that space against Big 12 receivers. Or maybe I'm being dramatic and not as many are as tall as I imagine, but I'm thinking about the Iowa State types (and LJH and CJ for us) who are 6'3"+ lining up against him.
  18. Jamison gotta put on a few pounds but he could be a Quandre starter kit. Put him at nickel.
  19. Because he's started the first 3 games of the MLS season and has 3 goals and played over 240 minutes total? He seems to be as healthy as he can get.
  20. Freshman year at the dorms we'd have some good battles on NCAA Baseball 2005 on PS2. First Apartment had a shitload of FIFA 2008/2009 Last Apartment included some Rock Band/Guitar Hero and occasional Mario Kart.
  21. Great decision, you'll enjoy it. I flew Interjet direct out of SA and had no problems at all. I'd never flown via Mexican airlines so I had some concerns, but it wasn't much different from a Southwest flight imo. I'd do it again without reservation.
  22. Derrick White has me really, really intrigued. I know it's at home dammit, but you aren't going to get me less excited for briefly moving into the 5 seed after this roller coaster of a season.
  23. But also where do I find that because it looks good as fuck. GTFO after you tell me, rookie.
  24. I think it's the most logical thing, and it makes me 10x more confident driving next to a scooter when it's in the bike lane, bc then I know the rider understand it's not fuckin' 'nam out here and is trying to follow some kind of order. Off Topic/related: I work on campus and the drive home on Dean Keeton usually has some employees cycling home too (east bound), I swear 90% of these guys are fuckin' pros. They use the lane, use their hand signals if they're switching lanes, look over their shoulder and wait for cars to pass before cutting across traffic, etc. Downtown just seems like it's Mexico City-style free for all.
  25. I live within half a mile from downtown and drive downtown frequently for Uber/Lyft (or myself) and I hate them. They drive stupid and their shit's all regarded. You're right, they are similar to cyclists. But these are the same reason I hate cyclists who don't know wtf they're doing. I actually appreciate when a scooterist uses the bike lane and controls themselves. When they don't, I hope that they diascooterf. There are a significant amount of scooterists who don't know or care about wtf they're doing, thus, the reaction. Honestly I drive under the assumption that all other drivers are idiots, which keeps me safer, so it's not much of a change. But the part that pisses me off is that when you drive a car like an idiot we might dent each other's cars and be in for a headache/$$, ride a bike/scooter like an idiot and the idiot is dead and/or in the hospital and that's a much bigger ordeal. The stakes are higher, so I wish they would use the scooters/bikes with the appropriate amount of discretion, but a lot of times they don't, so I react with my own discretion.
