  1. At the time he was named coach, I said that in reference to his ability to take Texas back to the top. He’s been “Seven Win Sark” at every stop, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to change. Of course, we also called him Cutty Sark for obvious reasons…looks like he picked the wrong year to quit drinking. We’ve got our own issues with a crap coach, so schadenfreude is not in the cards. Good luck the rest of the year
  2. Been trying to come up with something to add to this thread, will add my prayers and condolences to the Ehlinger family. This sucks so hard on so many levels. I’ve seen and experienced way too much loss, so this strikes a nerve. No parent should bury their child. Horns Up to y’all...
  3. As someone who was witness to the meltdown at USC, this is really a 50/50 proposition for you guys. From the human redemption side of it, I hope he has gotten control of his demons and has a successful career. From a football point-of-view, he hasn’t shown he’s much of an improvement over Herman. Obviously, with the talent at Alabama, being successful as an OC is a lot easier. His staff will be a huge indicator of his success. Bringing in retreads from his stints at UW & USC are going to be a red flag. As I said, this is a huge coin flip, I hope it works out for Texas. Our situation over here is a dumpster fire being pushed over a cliff while being locked on by a hellfire missle.
  4. Good luck if Tee Martin comes to Austin as WR coach. His time at USC was lackluster to say the least. He had monster WRs, but there was no development past raw talent. No separation, if they didn’t out-talent the DBs, the passing game suffered. Was known for recruiting and not much else. His stint as OC was a train-wreck. Just an observation on my part.
  5. Yeah, no lol. Substance abuse was definitely a genetic thing, his dad died fairly young. Living in LA in the ‘70s-‘90s and being around the music scene, I’ve seen too much shit to wish that life on anyone. If you can come out the other side somewhat sane, and no major health issues, you’re a unicorn. Someone mentioned Sammy being 70 and looking better than most, but he pretty much steered clear of the hard stuff.
  6. Like he said, you can get girls and wish to be a rock star, or you can practice, BECOME a rock star and the girls will follow
  7. Grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, saw the brothers at many a beer bash party before Dave & Mike came on. They played our high school before hitting it big. Absolutely gutted. Edward was a unique dude, could be a good guy or an ass if you got on his wrong side. So damn sad to go out like he did, damn cigarettes. Glad I got to see them as often as I could, it’s almost like losing a good buddy

    Fourth Quarter

Clay Helton says hold my beer
  9. I'm betting that is not the final tally on that fiasco.
  10. Beats the hell out of me. Swann and Helton could screw up a 2-man parade. Whether he can get an NFL offer is the big issue. After getting let go by Tech, I don't know how many head coach offers he'd get. A stint at USC as OC might get him to the league faster (?). I would be for the hire since Helton could not run an offense to save his life. It would be nice to score more than 14 points a game. My guess would be that J.T. Daniels would not be able to run his offense, so hopefully Sears and Fink don't transfer out.
  11. In and of itself, a focus on academics is the whole point of a university. There hasto be a balance. I have heard from others at UCLA that some on the academic side do not think athletics should be funded. The last president’s sole focus was on money and his legacy. With a $6 billion endowment, buying out a coach is a rounding error.
  12. Under-performing is 8-5, 5-7 and being clown-stomped in the process is an unmitigated disaster. The 2 years Swann referenced were successful in spite of the coaching staff, not because of them. Sam Darnold hid a ton of shortcomings. The Rose Bowl victory was a 3rd quarter meltdown followed by a 4th quarter miracle. The 10-win season includes a beat down by Bama and an ass-reaming by an Ohio State. Playing an 18 year-old freshman was his call, despite having 2 other QBs. When you only score 7-10 points in most second halves, you suck. Helton being retained is a big-ole “FU” to the alumni and fans.
  13. You and every other program in the PAC12! Make no mistake, they are F-U-C-T as far as the settlements (thanks Max Nikias you asshole). We have plenty of cash for the abomination that is the Coliseum remodel (thanks Pat Haden you asshole), and other projects. What this really is about is a wholesale change in attitude towards athletics. The current administration is hell-bent on becoming an Ivy League type institution...football is for the ruffian unwashed masses. We should be concerned about rankings and endowments, the football games are for the wine & cheese crowd to gather to network.

    Horns Down

I know I am old-school, but this crap has gotten out of hand, on both sides. There are very, very few hand symbols that existed way before the hood-rat era... Hook-em and our Fight On “V”. Beyond that escapes me at the moment. /geezer-mode In my day, if you openly disrespected your opponent or fans by taunting, you were going to get your ass kicked, plain and simple. I’ve seen and been involved in a few of those. Fast-forward to “da U” and every school has to throw up some ghetto-ass gang sign. There’s even a Cal State school (San Bernardino I believe) that uses Hook-em. /geezer-mode If there is going to be a taunting penalty for acknowledging your fans, then it has to be called the other way as well. We had the running back for neuter lame throw the Fight On upside-down to our fans and no flag...of course our players were a bunch of pussies to police it.
  15. Still picking pieces of Texas’ boots out of our ass brings a lot of clarity *shrug* All but the most deluded homers know USC succeeded in spite of the coaching, not because of it. If not for Sam Darnold going schoolyard the past two seasons, we would not be a .500 team. I hope we can renew the series when both schools are back to the level they should be at.
  16. I agree it's some of both but Orlando's defense did the same thing last year. Started out slowly against the run then by the end of the year we were basically stuffing run games with a front 5. No doubt, Orlando dialed up a helluva defense, hopefully y’all can get a better read against a real offense with blocking and catching and such.
  17. The OL is that bad. We have had the same damn issues for the past 3 years. Zone blocking with players who either do not understand the scheme, or are not capable of executing. Alleged OL coach Callaway is completely inept in developing talent. We have the horses, but no trainer. Not taking anything away from Texas’ front 7, I realized the above probably reads badly.
  18. Congrats on a well-earned ass kicking. Our shit-for-brains coaching staff had the team bend over and y’all went in dry. No fucking excuses, this team was not prepared, practices were soft, and the coaching staff had no business coaching above 2A high school ball. I stopped watching after the 1st series of the second half. No sense in completely ruining a weekend watching that abortion. I’ll find other ways to pass my fall Saturday’s that won’t cause a stroke. Unless the admins make wholesale changes and prove winning is a priority, I’m out. Good luck the rest of the year, beat those inbred-sister-humping-toothless land thieves!
  19. No such luck on making the game, have a beer or 5 for me. If the game goes bad, watching it will be a virtual kick in the balls so there you go. well shit, usc_hoss would have been a better username since our mascot is Traveler *doh*
  20. Nah, not the first time, but quite a while it was used properly. In California they think it’s spelled Haas
  21. I have no fucking clue how this game will go. I’d love to be able to talk shit, but USC has not shown me a damn thing offensively. We have the same damn problem y’all have, a shit-for-brains “offensive coordinator” who continues to have a job for some unknown reason. Tee Martin is allegedly a recruiting god which is why they keep him around. USC has ZERO offensive identity, and hasn’t since he took the reins. They were running the ball on ‘furd so what does shithead do? Throw the ball 3 times in a row (the same route to add insult to injury). Martin is also the receivers coach, and other than the one standout receiver a year, the rest couldn’t catch an STD in Tijuana. The defense held the Indians to 17 points, so that gives me hope. This game will rest on which OC has their head the least up their ass... it could be an ass-whipping either way, or it could be a shitshow with one team squeaking it out (sadly my money is on the latter). Good luck Saturday.
