  1. Preach it. I graduated college in 1983 oil bust, and law school in 1991 recession. Took forever to gain any real career traction. You get a real recession and there will be some attitude adjustment across the board. We probably need it. Just way too much money sloshing around has warped everyones sense of economic value of both capital and labor.
  2. Glad you're good Doc. Can't wait to catch your future Netflix documentary. Not sharing your optimism on city in near term. Longer term maybe but something has to give politically. I am reconsidering whether wearing a poor mans Rolex is a bad idea here. Even with the bullshit as long as we aren't victims of something violent we intend to stay. Its still such an awesome city.
  3. Im an old so I remember watching the Sixers series. Also remember thinking too bad for Lakers that Kareem can't play. Clearly plugging your point guard in at center against a team with basically two centers should be a disaster, right? The idea that not only did it work but Magic dominated has to be one of the most awesome feats in NBA history given the circumstances.
  4. People worked hard in the gulag too. Nothing to aspire to though. They work like that in China because there is no other option. Manufacturing is becoming more automated by the day. Factor in shipping from China to US and I don't think that trade is so hot right now.
  5. Havent read the book but I wonder if one of the reasons for Westhead wanting a slower offense is Kareem getting too old to run and gun for 100 games. I would argue that run and gun was in Westheads blood given the stint with Denver and Loyola Marymount. 1990 Loyola averaged 122 PPG.
  6. Man that's rough. Sorry for the family. So young.
  7. Also Rippetoe: There are few things graven in stone, except that you have to squat or you're a pussy.
  8. Seems like this guy likes being a football player more than he likes playing football.
  9. I went a very long time without strength training. Started with a personal trainer at 50. I am putting up some numbers but more importantly my back and knee discomfort are gone and I am much stronger across the board. Do it but make sure you get coached up.
  10. Free weights are definitely awesome but you should also consider getting coached up on kettlebells. Its an awesome tool and you can do damn near anything. About the only thing you really need to supplement is pecs so you can cover that with pushups. Space and time efficient and will be great for your flexible strength. And +1 on back squats. I am going to school on the low back squat. Taking some mastery but I am liking it better than the high squat, even though we are only talking about a few inches [thats what she said]

    Moody Center

Still dont see how you can go hard in the paint unless there is, you know, paint.
  12. Fuck Potter county indeed. Swing over to Borger where the real party at. They have a Bennigan's after all.
  13. Fan of the hex bar for deadlift. Its tough to sit at a desk all day and then do conventional deadlifts without risking the back. Not worth it for me.
  14. Pearlmans book on the 90 Boys is a fun read. The whole barber chair deal to open the book is insane. I dont dig the West portrayal. I mean the guy is one of the legends of the game as a player and front office guy. Dont think that happens if he is a raving lunatic for a few decades. And agree on Westhead. No way that guy could be some kind of pussy and lead these guys to a title. Check out "Guru of Go" on 30 for 30. Westhead was legit. But hey the whole motif is over the top so you just have to buckle up for the ride.

    RIP Mad Bomber

One of my childhood heroes. RIP Mad Bomber
  16. Given all the interest in this now there will probably be a documentary at some point where they will contrast events with this show. In the meantime I will take this over the top version because its flat awesome.
  17. Yeah some interesting choices but I guess you compress the timeline and going to Boston and finding your balls in that hostile environment is a good story. The scene I cant wait for is when Buss meets with those bankers after the Lakers win a title. Guess we will see who eats shit then.
  18. Read a couple of books on this. Its an awesome story. This better be good.
  19. Is this worth a watch? Never heard of the guy. Should I care or is this some depraved child molester example eleventy billion? Looking at the preview though I think this is one case where you can judge the book by the cover. He was obviously a really strange person.
  20. Back to the show. To me the interesting backdrop on all this is how the league was kind of hanging by a thread and Showtime and Bird really changed all that. Now its hard to imagine someone showing up to a Lakers game with a bag of tickets to give away, etc.
  21. KU was on fire from downtown the other night. If that mean reverts UNC can take them out. Not a deep team so have to avoid foul trouble.
  22. I cant get over how much we are digging this show. From previews I was sure I would hate it. Adrien Brody as Pat Riley? Sure why the fuck not? Reilly as Buss was a masterstroke. Sorry Will Farrell they got it right. 80s and 90s NBA was my wheelhouse and I didn't know any of this stuff. My wife is about to stroke out waiting for episodes to drop. The whole thing is insane and I just love it.
  23. That and the flamethrowers thawing out the field. Awesome.
  24. Holgren is built like a marathoner. The trainers would say he's a hard gainer. I dont see him putting on much good weight. His body type cant handle it. Its a shame because the skills are there but I see a Porzingis type injured dude in a couple years.
  25. My wife doesn't care about NBA and she loves it. This show way exceeds my expectations. Never really seen anything like it and the story hasn't really even gotten going yet. Its a great watch. It will send you out to do some Google searches for sure
