  1. They didn’t pay attention until they were told to pay attention.
  2. No, they should be ground. I failed to include the instructions and have put them in another post.
  3. Left off the prep: Step 1 Grind peppercorns coarsely using a mortar and pestle, electric grinder, or spice mill. Step 2 Chop cilantro finely and transfer to a mixing bowl. Stir in the freshly ground pepper, oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, oil, and cayenne. Add chicken thighs and toss by hand until completely coated. Cover with plastic wrap and marinate in the fridge for 4 to 12 hours. Step 3 Combine rice vinegar, lime juice, garlic, sambal, fish sauce, cilantro, and honey to make the dipping sauce. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  4. Ping Gai Chicken is a Laotian recipe. I love grilled wings, and I search around for chicken recipes from around the globe and use/adapt them to prepare my wings. I probably have a dozen or so wing recipes I use through the grilling season. I'm old(er) with high blood pressure, so I substitute coconut aminos and maple syrup for the soy, oyster, and fish sauces. I also like things hot, so I add pureed ghost pepper in the marinade and doubled the sambal oelek in the sauce. I like using ghost pepper because it adds smokiness as well as heat. I also marinate my wings for 2-3 days. For the Marinade: 1 tablespoon whole black peppercorns, or more to taste 1 large bunch fresh cilantro stems and leaves 3 tablespoons oyster sauce 2 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons fish sauce 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 pinches cayenne pepper 10 boneless, skinless chicken thighs For the Dipping Sauce: ⅔ cup seasoned rice vinegar 1 lime, juiced 4 cloves garlic, crushed 1 tablespoon sambal oelek 1 tablespoon fish sauce ¼ cup freshly chopped cilantro 2 tablespoons honey, or more to taste

  6. His voters believe anything bad is a result of the communist policies of the liberal Democrats.
  7. After the KAL downing, the Soviets were convinced that Reagan was going to order a first strike. Soviet defenses incorrectly registered incoming missiles. If not for a low-level Soviet soldier questioning the data, the Soviet Union would have launched. The event spooked both sides and Reagan softened his rhetoric. The details were revealed when the Soviet archives were opened after 1991.
  8. He also damn near got us into a nuclear war… which is a good example that foreign policy is a fucking messy endeavor and always comes with unforeseen consequences. The future is always a tough gamble. It’s easy to judge past actions.
  9. I think the time for neutrality has passed for at least 50 or so years.
  10. My wife is a super Disney nut and planner and even she used a Disney planner this last trip to help sort through the changes.
  11. This American Life did a chapter on breaking the propaganda bubble in Russia. Cold Calling Russia
  12. I have an acquaintance in Russia that documents graffiti (mostly for artistic quality)
  13. Add in the factor that anyone in the middle class has probably paid the bribes to stay out of the military.
  14. No need to rationalize because it’s not being reported by their sources. Anything that does report it is fake news and turning too liberal.
  15. In Trump’s mind, everyone in the world will want to buy multiple copies of the book because he is in it… that 10% is probably a billion dollars.
  16. That’s the way Trump would play it and he’s pretty good at that game. Perception is more important than reality.
  17. In the Russian-government-controls-discussion department… a Russian friend related that if the word “war” is used in communication, the communication is abruptly cut off. She is here in the states, so I don’t if that applies to general communication in Russia or just external to internal.
  18. A long time ago we took in for a few weeks an exchange student from Uzbekistan. She had Asian features but also had blue eyes and freckles. Her great-grandfather had been a Polish officer who was captured and he and his family were sent to Uzbekistan. The officer and his wife died leaving a young daughter who was sold to be a wife for a wealthy Uzbek. The daughter was the exchange student’s grandmother.
  19. The terms of the Budapest Memorandum are being misrepresented so that Biden can be blamed for not following through with American commitments.
  20. Pollo a la Brasa. Salsa Aji Verde.
  21. In case anyone wants to read another view point concerning Putin’s thinking. I’ve subscribed to Russian Life for years… they sent an email out today stating they would be suspending publication out of fear for the safety of their correspondents in Russia. https://www.russianlife.com/stories/online/why-putin-invaded-ukraine/?goal=0_2e99ba62b2-aff19223f1-191233569&mc_cid=aff19223f1&mc_eid=690e8fa84a
